Airtel unveils Rs 49 prepaid plan to counter Reliance Jio

This plan doesn't offer any bundled calls or SMS.

Indian Telecom Giant, Airtel in an effort to compete with Jio rolled out another competitive plan . The company has rolled out a new Rs 49 prepaid recharge plan. This plan will directly counter the Reliance Jio’s Rs 52 plan.

Airtel’s new Rs 49 plan gives offers to offer its users 3GB data daily. However, this plan doesn't come bundled with any calls or SMS. While on the other hand Reliance Jio’s Rs 52 offer for its prime prepaid customers gives users a total of only 1.05GB data. However, the validity is of seven days. Also, it comes bundled with unlimited free voice calls, 70 SMS and a complimentary subscription to Jio apps. Reliance Jio also has a Rs 49 plan. However, it is exclusive to its Jio Phone users only. The Jio Phone exclusive plan offers 1GB data for 28 days along with unlimited calls, 50 SMS and unlimited access to Jio apps.

Separately, in another offer, Airtel is offering 30GB free data to its users. Users who upgrade to a 4G smartphone for the first time are eligible for this offer. It is under their ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ programme. Company's 2G/3G mobile customers who upgrade to a 4G smartphone will become eligible for the free 30GB 4G data. Under this scheme, prepaid customers will get 1GB data per day.  However, the Postpaid customers will get 30GB for the first month with free data rollover facility.

Reliance Jio is not staying behind in the competition as well. The company announced special limited-time recharge vouchers. These vouchers are valid for the ongoing Indian Premier League 2018. Also, Airtel customers can live stream all IPL matches and highlights of the IPL for free. This can be done via the Airtel TV app. Users, in order to stream, will have to download the latest version of Airtel TV app and that's it. Reliance Jio, on the other hand, is offering Rs 251 cricket gold pass. This is valid for 51 days of the IPL. This gives users 2GB data per day and total of 102GB data. Both the Airtel and Jio have partnered with Jio to offer free hot star streaming for their users.
