Alcatel Onyx has been launched in the US by Cricket Wireless. But is it actually worth the price?
Alcatel in partnership with US-based prepaid telecom operator, Cricket Wireless has announced the launch of its new entry-level Alcatel Onyx smartphone. The device was originally announced at this years CES technology convention as the Alcatel 1X.
The device has been made available across the US through Cricket Wireless priced at $119.99 (approximately Rs. 8,500). It can be purchased online via the company's official website or via a Cricket Wireless store. There is no information regarding the device's availability status in India.
Alcatel Onyx sports a 5.5-inch HD+ display with Dragontrail Glass protection on top. The device sports a resolution of 1440x720 pixels. It is powered by the MediaTek MT6739 processor paired with a PowerVR GE8100 GPU.
The device features 2GB of RAM, which comes with 32GB of expandable internal storage. It runs Google's Android 8.1 Oreo operating system and is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. In terms of security options, the device features the company's own Face Key facial recognition technology and a fingerprint sensor on the back.

Coming to the camera specifications, the Alcatel Onyx sports a dual camera setup on the back consisting of a 13-megapixel primary sensor paired with a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front, it features a 5-megapixel sensor for taking selfies.
All the specifications considered, Alcatel's Onyx seems to be a dud priced at a much higher point than it actually deserves to be at. We recommend that you purchase any other device from brands like Xiaomi, Motorola, Nokia and other manufacturers instead of purchasing this.
