Android 8.0 Oreo released: Everything you need to know

Google has finally released the new version of Android, and they like to call it the Android Oreo. As Google likes to describe, the Android Oreo is much safer, smarter, more powerful and sweeter than ever.

So What's Oreo and How did Google get that name?

Oreo is a cookie consisting of two chocolate wafers with a sweet creme filling in between. Google partnered with Nabisco in order to use the name for their latest Android version. Though this is not the first time that the company had got a licence for a name, as they did something similar at the time of Android 4.4 KitKat.

However, we have known about the features of the new version of the operating system, the doubt in everybody's mind was the name. Google did a short live stream on their website just to reveal the name as the features were boosted earlier.

What’s new?

We have known about the features from a long time, thanks to the developer preview. The features packed inside the Oreo update are as follows:

The new version of Android brings some changes which are not visible to any normal user, but are noticeable enough like the background limits for apps to improve battery life, Bluetooth audio improvements, Google Play Protect to help on the security of the smartphone, and other important changes in vital system behaviour for apps. Oreo will also help the phone to boot faster than ever before. It also brings support for the Instant Apps. Some other additions include adaptive notification dots, wider support for picture-in-picture mode, over 60 new emojis, a new look for media notifications and the quick settings menu, a redesigned settings menu, adaptive icons and notification channels.

Should you update?

Yes, according to me, you should definitely update your device to the newest version of Android as soon as you get it. Software updates bring enhancements, improvements and new features to your device. Not to forget, updates also bring the latest Security Patch by Google which helps in keeping your device safe.
