Apple iPhone SE vs Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite: Which is the budget premium smartphone you should get? Here's the answer.
Apple recently launched its new iPhone SE and it's just an updated iPhone 8, due to which it lacks a lot of the features present in the iPhone 11, but does come with an updated processor, camera and more. It is priced at Rs 42,500 for the base variant in India. At this price point, it might seem like a no-brainer to a number of people. However, Samsung has also recently launched its Galaxy S10 Lite smartphone around the same price bracket, and it is a fierce competitor.

The iPhone SE looks like Apple decided to pick up the spare parts of the iPhone 8 and decided to repurpose them. This means that after a long time you will be able to get a fingerprint sensor along with chunky bezels on the latest iPhone.
Whereas, the Galaxy S10 Lite features a much modern look with a full-screen display and a hole-punch camera. It also comes with a fingerprint sensor, however, because it has near to no bezels, the fingerprint sensor is integrated inside of the display.
Coming to the sizes of the devices, they are extremely different, The Galaxy S10 Lite sports a 6.7-inch display, which would easily engulf the 4.7-inch display of the iPhone SE. Making both the devices targetted towards different people.
Coming to the back, the iPhone SE sports a glass back, which feels much more premium when compared to the Galaxy S10 Lite's 'Glasstic' back. The glass back also allows the SE to support wireless charging, which the S10 Lite lacks.

The iPhone SE comes with an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, which is another aspect that the S10 Lite misses. None of them sports a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you better carry a converter or a pair of Bluetooth earphones with you at all times.
Apple iPhone SE 2020 sports a 4.7-inch Retina HD display. Whereas, the Galaxy S10 Lite sports a 6.7-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display, which is not only larger than SE's display but also sporting newer technologies.
The iPhone SE comes with an LCD panel whereas, the Galaxy S10 Lite sports a Super AMOLED display panel, which is a much newer and comparatively better display technology.

The iPhone sports huge bezels, similar to the iPhone 8. However, the S10 Lite sports minimal bezels and has a display integrated hole-punch selfie camera module.
Apple iPhone SE is powered by the company's latest A13 Bionic processor, which is that same processor used inside of the latest iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro smartphones. This is the company's most powerful chipset to date. The new iPhone SE only comes with 3GB of RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite, on the other hand, utilises last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor paired with 8GB of RAM.
As I have not tested these phones side by side, I will not be able to pass judgement, on which device would perform better. However, considering the processor specs, the iPhone does hold the higher ground. But, at the same time, a normal user will not be able to tell the difference, at least for the next two to three years.

Apple iPhone SE runs iOS 13 and will be upgraded to iOS 14 later this year, along with the launch of the iPhone 12 series. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite runs Google's Android 10 operating system with the company's One UI 2.0 skin on top. One area where Apple will pull a win is support. All iPhones to date have had more support than most of the Android phones ever launched.
Apple iPhone SE sports a single 12-megapixel wide-angle camera on the back. It also supports 4K video recording at up to 60 fps. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite features a triple camera setup on the back consisting of a 48-megapixel primary sensor, paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 5MP macro lens. It also supports 4K video recording at 60 fps.
As of now, I cannot give you a verdict on which smartphone is a better buy. However, what I can tell you is that both the phones will have their own niche markets. The iPhone SE (2020) might be able to sell a lot more units than any other similarly priced smartphone. But, it will not change the minds of people who want specific things like a modern design, a better display, a bigger battery and more from their device.

We will have to wait and see how well the iPhone SE performs and if it is able to become the end all be all smartphone for everyone under Rs 45,000.
