Apple to kick off WWDC 2022 on June 6: iOS 16, macOS 13, iPadOS 16, more

Apple has announced that it will kick off its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 6 with a special keynote. This is the third consecutive year, the tech giant is hosting its developer event virtually. The event will be live-streamed via official channels, and we expect the company to announce its next-generation software updates including iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9, tvOS 16, and more.

According to the invite shared by the company on its official website, the virtual event will take place from June 6 to June 10, with free attendance for all developers.

The company in its invitation writes, "Building on the success of the past two years of virtual events, WWDC22 will showcase the latest innovations in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS, while giving developers access to Apple engineers and technologies to learn how to create groundbreaking apps and interactive experiences."

During the first day of the event, Apple will be hosting a special day for developers and students at Apple Park to watch the keynote and State of the Union videos.

Apart from WWDC 2022, Apple has announced that it will start accepting submissions for this year's Swift Student Challenge from April 25. During the Swift Student Challenge 2022, young developers will be given a chance to showcase their coding skills in the Swift programming language.

WWDC 2022: What to expect

During WWDC 2022 we expect Apple to announce and showcase iOS 16 (codenamed Sydney) and macOS 13 (codenamed Rome) according to a report by Bloomberg.

With iOS 16, the company is expected to bring redesigned app icons, camera improvements, interactive widgets and upgraded theme options. iPad OS 16 will also get a new floating app window, and access to Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Xcode.

The company is also expected to announce tvOS 16 and watchOS 9.

Apart from software, the company will reportedly launch an updated Apple silicon Mac Pro.
