Android 13 Beta 1 now available for select Pixel devices: How to download and install

Google just started rolling out Android 13 Beta 1 to select Google Pixel smartphones. Here's a look at the list of eligible devices.

Google just released Android 13 Beta 1 for select Pixel devices globally. The company has stated that the beta will also be available as an update for developer preview versions. The company has been primarily focussing on privacy and security features with Android 13 with all of its developer beta versions. With the latest beta version, the company has introduced new security features including selective media file access permissions and improved error reporting.

Apart from the security features, the company has also introduced a number of developer-oriented features including new notifications permissions, photo picker, themed app icon designer, per-app language support, and more. It has also added support for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio and MIDI 2.0 over USB.

Google first announced the release of Android 13 Beta 1 via an official blog post. With the new beta build, Google has added support for apps to ask for storage permissions to grant access to all media files. It has also improved Keystore and KeyMint error reporting, which will now provide detailed and accurate reports. Other features also include new audio route APIs.

Apart from these smartphones, the beta build will also work inside of the Android emulator.

How to download and install Android 13 Beta 1

Android 13 Beta 1 is currently available on the company's official developer site. You can simply follow the instructions there to install the operating system on a supported device.

If you are already running the previous developer preview version, then the update will be made available over the air (OTA).

Android 13 roadmap

Apart from the Beta 1 rollout update, the company has shared the development roadmap for Android 13. According to the roadmap, the company expects to roll out the stable build by June 2022.

The company has also confirmed that it will be sharing more details about the upcoming operating system at its Google I/O 2022 developers conference event.
