Google Android Pie rollout schedule: OnePlus, Nokia, Realme and other smartphones

Google's Android Pie mobile operating system has already coe to a few devices till date. Here's when your smartphone will get the update.

Android 9 Pie was released back in August 2018

Its been almost three months since Google made the announcement of the official release of Android 9.0 Pie. However, most of the Android smartphones are currently running on Android Oreo or an older version of the operating system. If you are wondering if and when will your device get the update, here's everything you need to know.

Google

Google has rolled out Android 9.0 Pie to all of its eligible devices.

As the software is made by Google, it is quite obvious that the update will first arrive in the Pixel devices. Android 9 Pie has reached to Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL via an OTA update. Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL launched with Android 9 Pie running out of the box.

OnePlus

OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus 6T with Android Pie running out of the box

OnePlus was one of the first OEMs after Google to roll out the Android 9 Pie update for its flagship smartphone. The latest iteration of Android is currently running on the OnePlus 6 and the recently launched OnePlus 6T. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer is working on bringing the update to OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 3/3T. The users should expect the update before the end of this year.

Nokia

Nokia 3.1 Plus comes with a dual-camera setup at the back

Nokia has been launching its Android smartphone with the Android One by Google, which means that the updates will be quick enough on these devices. As of writing this post, Android 9 Pie is running on Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 6.1 and the Nokia 6.1 Plus. While the Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco will get the update by the end of this month, other Nokia devices are expected to get the update by the end of 2018.

Samsung

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is expected to get the Android Pie update in Q1 2019

Samsung is usually late to the party when it comes to Android updates. Due to the heavy customisations made by the South Korean giant, the updates are delayed even for the flagships. Samsung, at their developer's conference, announced that they will be soon rolling out Android 9 Pie based OneUI Beta for Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Samsung Galaxy S9 and Samsung Galaxy S9+. This means that the stable update for these devices should be available by Q1 2019. After the 2018 flagships, the company will bring the update to Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Once these flagships are updated, we can expect Android 9 Pie to arrive on devices from Galaxy A-series and J-series.

Motorola

Motorola One Power is the company's first phone to come with a notch

Motorola was known for providing Android updates quicker than any other OEM. However, in past few years, that has not been the case. The Lenovo-owned company has now slowed down, which is why none of their devices is running on the latest Android version. Motorola has promised that the Motorola One, Motorola One Power, Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, Moto Z2 Force, Moto Z2 Play, Moto X4, Moto G6 Plus, Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play will get the update soon.

Huawei and Honor

Honor and Huawei have currently not stated what all smartphones will get the update.

Huawei has refreshed its EMUI with the latest version, EMUI 9.0 that is based on Android 9 Pie. The update has not yet hit the masses. In India, none of the Huawei or Honor devices has got the Android 9 Pie stable update. However, we can expect the update for Huawei P20 Lite, P20 Pro, Nova 3i, Nova 3 and Honor Play to arrive by the end of this year.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi is already working hard on delivering the update to all its eligible smartphones.

Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI 10 update for many of its smartphone. However, the Android version has been updated only on the Mi Mix 2s and Mi 8 smartphones, both of which are not available in India. The Chinese firm is working on bringing the update to its flagship Poco F1 and other smartphones.

We should expect the update to arrive sometime in Q4 2018. The company will also release the update soon for its RealMe series of smartphones which include the RealMe 2, RealMe 2 Pro and more.

Vivo

Vivo will start rolling out Android 9.0 Pie to its smartphones by the end of this year.

Vivo has promised that they will start rolling out the Android 9 Pie based FunTouch OS update sometime on Q4 2018. However, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has not yet revealed a list of devices which will get the update.
