LG V30 vs LG G6: Battle of the Brothers

IFA 2017 was taken by storm with the launch of the multimedia-powerhouse LG V30. The device is a direct rival to Samsung Galaxy Note 8. But how good is the V30 against LG's own flagship G6? Is the LG V30 a huge upgrade over the recently launched LG G6?

Design: V30 vs G6

So in size V30 is a sub 6-inch device while the G6 has a 5.7-inch screen. But the V30 is a few grams lighter than the G6. With the round edges and thin design, the 6-inch device feels perfect to hold and isn't bulky like the previous V20. V30 is also incredibly light for a 6-inch device.

V30's sides are curved and smooth, while the G6 has edgy sides, the flat edges make it grippier than normal, which is good. Both devices have curved screens. But V30 feels similar to Galaxy S8+.

V30 and the G6 have a very familiar design. With the Dual-camera setup and the fingerprint sensor on the back. Both devices feature a glossy glass back. Even though V30 has a glass design it is still resilient to shocks.

Specifications: V30 vs G6

Both devices have 18:9 full vision displays, which makes it feel smaller than a 6-inch display. LG is using a Plastic-based OLED Display on the V30. OLED ensures a brighter screen than the G6 and also a better colour balance.

The LG G6 is behind in specifications because of the use of old Snapdragon 821 SoC, while the V30 features the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC. V30 also has a 4GB RAM and have either 64GB or 128GB storage. V30 have all features available globally unlike the LG G6.

LG claims that audio experience is unlike any other device out there. V30 gets a quad DAC, set of digital filters, and audio presets. The battery is the same on the two devices, with both devices featuring a 3300mAh battery. V30 also features Quick charging and water resistant.

Both devices will be running Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The LG V30 also supports Daydream VR.

Camera: V30 vs G6

On paper LG makes us believe that the V30 has fantastic camera capabilities. The V30 features a dual-camera setup, a 16-megapixel sensor with a 13-megapixel sensor, which gives you a wide-angle and depth in your photos. The 16-megapixel has an aperture of f/1.6 which is very bright. LG is also using a Glass lens while others smartphone has a plastic lens.

The wide-angle lens is massively improved. With the reduction in edge distortion in wide angle shots.

The G6 is not a long way behind the V30 but is surely not on par with the V30. The G6 features a dual 13-megapixel camera setup with an aperture of f/1.8.

Final thoughts

It is very clear that V30 is superior to the LG G6, which should be the case as you will be paying more for the LG V30. V30 offers far more superior experience than the LG G6. With both these devices being a fantastic prospect in their own segments.

One thing is very clear LG has found their ground and have been putting out fantastic devices and LG has hit the gold at last.
