MediaTek unveils new set of chipsets, Jio partners up to launch affordable Android smartphones

MediaTek, on Tuesday, at an event in New Delhi partnered up with Reliance Jio. The company will bring more affordable chipsets which can power an Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone. As the companies have partnered up, Reliance Jio's Android smartphone will come with one of these chipsets. The new smartphone will be the second phone from the company, first being the JioPhone.

T L Lee, General Manager, Wireless Communication, MediaTek, said, “India is growth intensive, a market of immense opportunities with its own set of aspirations and needs. We continue to intensify our technology collaboration in India, even beyond smartphones, and recognize its importance in the global marketplace."

“MediaTek is already powering New Premium devices in India – smartphones that have high end features and experiences as well as the power and performance users demand, yet affordable to everyone. We will continue to innovate on the smartphone side this year in India to deliver devices that have become the primary access point for a connected lifestyle,” he further added.

What's New?

MediaTek unveiled a new set of processors at the event. The new chipsets by MediaTek include the MT6739 and the MediaTek Sensio MT638. The MT6739 is processor built for budget smartphones. The chipset is a high-speed quad-core SoC for India’s rapidly growing 4G market. It also brings in face detection capabilities. Indian OEMs will take advantage of this chipset to build budget Android smartphones.

The Sensio MT6381 is the first chipset from the company to feature 6-in-1 smartphone biosensor module. The chipset's embedded module will allow users to quickly check and monitor physical wellness on their smartphone.
