HMD Global announces that the Nokia 6.1 and the Nokia 6.1 Plus will receive the Android 9 Pie update by this month
Google recently announced the launch of the latest iteration of the Android operating system, the Android 9 Pie. As all the Nokia smartphones are a part of Google's Android One program, they should be one of the firsts to get the update. However, most of the Nokia phones are still running on Android 8.1 Oreo. So, here's when you can expect the update to arrive on your Nokia 6.1, Nokia 8 and other smartphones.
To begin with, the mid-range smartphone Nokia 7 Plus has already received the Android 9 Pie update. So, if you have one of those you can check for updates by going into Settings>About Phone>System Updates. This is not surprising as when the list of devices supported for Android 9 Pie Beta came out, we saw the name of Nokia 7 Plus present there.
Apart from the Nokia 7 Plus, pretty much all the phones are running on an older version of Android. However, this is going to change soon as the company has announced that the much popular Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphones will be receiving the update by the end of this month.

Interestingly, the flagship smartphones Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco will have to wait for the update till November. The recently launched Nokia 7.1 is also set to get the update by next month.
In case you have an older smartphone like the Nokia 6 or Nokia 5, you will have to wait a little longer as the company is giving preference to the newer generation handsets. Also, the Nokia 5.1 Plus should receive the update before 2018 comes to an end.
