Xiaomi India has just launched the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro starting at Rs. 21,999. The company explains why.
Xiaomi India recently launched the Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro in India. The smartphones are priced higher than the Poco F1, which left many fans disappointed. Most people expected the starting prices of Redmi K20 and K20 Pro to be under Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively. As fans took this to Twitter, Manu Kumar Jain from Xiaomi reacted to those tweets.
As far as the pricing is concerned, the Redmi K20 is priced at Rs. 21,999 for the base variant that features 6GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The higher variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage comes with a price tag of Rs. 23,999. Redmi K20 Pro, on the other hand, is priced at Rs. 27,999 and Rs. 30,999 for the 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB variants.
Manu Kumar Jain, MD of Xiaomi India, shared a tweet explaining the reasons behind such high prices. At first, he explained that the Redmi K20 Pro includes all the features that a true flagship has like the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, a 48-megapixel camera, bezel-less display, 7th generation in-display fingerprint scanner, pop-up selfie camera and more.

Further, Jain claims that when you combine all these features you see price tags manoeuvring around Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000. Apart from that, in order to give a true flagship experience, they have also removed any sort of display ads from MIUI on the K20 Pro.
As for the Redmi K20, the smartphone comes with a similar set of specifications as the K20 Pro except for the new Snapdragon 730 processor. According to Jain, since the processor is new in the market, the price is significantly higher.
