Samsung Galaxy XCover FieldPro rugged smartphone launched; price yet to be revealed

Samsung has launched a new rugged smartphone, called the Galaxy XCover FieldPro. The company states that this smartphone is aimed at first responders, field personnel, technicians and enterprise customers. It is yet to reveal the pricing and availability details for the new phone.

Samsung Galaxy XCover FieldPro comes with a MIL-STD-810G certification and has passed a series of 21 durability tests. It also comes with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

The company claims that the device can handle liquid damage, accidental falls and other harsh conditions. Key features of the Galaxy XCover FieldPro include a replaceable battery, push-to-talk and customisable emergency request buttons.

Samsung Galaxy XCover FieldPro sports a 5.1-inch QHD display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. It is powered by the company's own Exynos 9810 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card. The device runs Google's Android Oreo, however, Samsung has promised a guaranteed update to Android 10 with three years of guaranteed security updates.

Coming to the camera department, the device sports a single 12-megapixel sensor on the back with the company's dual aperture feature. On the front, it features an 8-megapixel sensor for taking selfies. All of this is backed by a 4,500mAh battery.

As far as security is concerned the device comes with a fingerprint sensor and the company's own Knox security feature. Samsung claims that its Knox feature has been certified by the federal government as it meets the standards set by the National Information Assurance Partnership. It also claims that Knox is CJIS, FIPS and HIPAA compliant.
