Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant, recently launched the much-awaited MIUI 9. MIUI 9 is an update to their popular Android based custom ROM MIUI. The update has already started hitting a few of the Xiaomi devices. The company has now announced a list of devices that will eventually get updated to MIUI 9. The company made this announcement on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website via their official account.
Surprisingly, the company is also rolling out the latest MIUI 9 update to the Mi 2 which was introduced in 2012. The company made this announcement during the MIUI 9 launch also. This is interesting as most companies only provide two major software updates to their smartphones.
However, the MIUI 9 is based on Google's Android Nougat operating system instead of the latest Android Oreo. This might not be a deal breaker for those using smartphones as old as the Mi 2. Currently, Mi A1 is the only device from the company that runs on Android Oreo. Notably, Mi A1 runs on stock Android while most of the other Xiaomi devices run on MIUI.
