Xiaomi is now planning to launch the successor to its already popular budget friendly devices the Redmi 4, Redmi 4A and Redmi Note 4. Recent reports from Weibo, show that Xiaomi is set to launch two variants of the Xiaomi Redmi 5. The reports also give a glance at the specifications, price and design of the smartphone.
Redmi 5 is said to be introduced in two variants, one with 3GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of internal storage and the other with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. According to the reports, the device may come either with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 3GB of RAM or Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 will feature a 5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and will include a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera for video calling and taking selfies, as per the reports. Reports also suggest that the smartphone packs a 3,680 mAh battery which is a downgrade as compared to the currently available Redmi 4. The device is said to support Quick Charge 3.0 and will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat layered with Xiaomi’s own MIUI 9.
As the Redmi 5 is the successor to already present budget friendly Redmi 4, the phone is said to be priced at around CNY 859 (roughly Rs. 8,200) for the 3GB RAM and 16GB storage variant, whereas the 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant will cost around CNY 1,039 (Roughly Rs. 10,000). The top of the line 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant will cost around CNY 1,099 (Roughly Rs. 10,500). If this is the case in the pricing department, most users will prefer the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant over the 3GB RAM/32GB storage, as there is only a slight difference in the price.
