Xiaomi Redmi 5A launched in India: Price, Specifications and Availability

Xiaomi India has finally launched the Xiaomi Redmi 5A in India. The new smartphone is a budget offering from the company and is a successor to the company's popular Redmi 4A. The highlights of the smartphone include the battery life and the fact that it is 'Made in India' which also helps the company to sell the smartphone in the country at a reasonable price. The new Redmi 5A is being called as the 'Desh ka smartphone' by the company.

Specifications

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A features a 5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC coupled with Adreno 308 GPU. The Redmi 5A is launched in two variants, one with 16GB of onboard storage while the other one comes with double the amount of storage at 32GB. The 16GB variant ships with 2GB of RAM whereas there is 3GB of RAM in the 32GB variant. Under the hood, there is a 3,000mAh battery powering up the internals.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system. As for the optics, the Redmi 5A sports a 13-megapixel camera at the back with an aperture of f/2.2 and a LED flash. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture.

On the connectivity front, the Redmi 5A supports 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, IR Blaster and a micro USB port.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is launched at a price of Rs. 5,999 for the 2GB/16GB variant while the 3GB/32GB variant retails for Rs. 6,999. However, Xiaomi is surprising its customers with a Rs. 1,000 discount on the 2GB/16GB variants of the device making its price at Rs. 4,999. The offer can be availed only by the first 5 million customers (50 Lakhs).

The Redmi 5A is available in Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold colour variants. Interested people can purchase the device from Flipkart and Mi.com/in. Those who are interested in buying the product from offline markets can grab one from the company’s offline retail partners, including Sangeetha, Poorvika, UniverCell and E-Zone, among others. The first sale of the smartphone will be on December 7 at 12 noon.
