Xiaomi India recently rolled out media invites for an upcoming event. The event is set for February 14 and will be held in New Delhi. Earlier speculations suggested that Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in the upcoming event in India. However, a recent report suggests that the company will be launching the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 at the event. The Redmi Note 5 is going to be a successor to the much popular Redmi Note 4.
A report that Xiaomi could launch the Redmi Note 5 was initially brought by Techook. Techook spotted the name "RedmiNote5" inside the JavaScript code managing the countdown timer on Mi.com. We verified the report by going to the same link and checking the script.
As far as the specifications are concerned, earlier reports suggest that the Redmi Note 5 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. The smartphone will feature a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display. The display is said to come with 1080x2160 pixels resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device will pack 3GB or 4GB of RAM coupled with 32GB or 64GB of storage. Under the hood, there will be a 4,100mAh battery powering the internals. The Redmi Note 5 will run on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.
