Vivo, during the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2018, surprised everyone by showcasing a smartphone with an under display fingerprint sensor. The Vivo X20 Plus UD will be the first smartphone to feature this much-awaited technology. The smartphone was spotted on TENAA, the Chinese certification website. The smartphone is very similar to the already available Vivo X20 Plus as UD here could just mean 'under display' fingerprint scanner.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the Vivo X20 Plus will feature a 6.43-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2160x1080 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. The device will come with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. The storage on the X20 Plus UD will be expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The smartphone will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and will be backed by a 3,800mAh battery.

On the camera front, there will be a dual-camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel camera coupled with a 5-megapixel camera and f/1.8 aperture, OIS and a LED flash. Up front, there will be a 12-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and a selfie flash.
The under display fingerprint scanner was developed by Vivo in partnership with Synaptics. The company likes to call the under display fingerprint scanning technology as Clear ID. In the Vivo's upcoming smartphone the sensor sits between the glass protection and the OLED panel. This type of technology will soon be adopted by other smartphone manufacturers as well.
