Xiaomi is expanding its portfolio in India especially when it comes to the budget smartphones. The company is now planning to bring the much awaited Xiaomi Redmi 5 to India. Xiaomi might not bring the Redmi5 Pro as the smartphone already exists with the name Redmi Note 5 in India.
Xiaomi held a launch for the Mi TV 4A in India which was also live streamed. At the end of the live stream, the company left a small hint for an upcoming smartphone. The teaser claims that there is a new smartphone launch set for March 14. The company is really serious about expanding the whole Mi mobiles business in India as it keeps on bringing something new.
Specifications
Xiaomi Redmi 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. The smartphone features a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of 720x1440 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device comes in 2GB+16GB, 3GB+32GB and 4GB+32GB variants. However, we will have to wait for the official launch to know which variants are making their way to India. Storage on all the variants is expandable up to 128GB using a microSD card.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat based MIUI 9.1 out of the box. Under the hood, the device packs in a 3,300mAh battery.
For connectivity, the smartphone supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Infrared port and a microUSB port. The smartphone also features a fingerprint sensor at the back.
On the optics front, the Redmi 5 sports a 12-megapixel camera at the back. The rear camera comes with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and a LED flash. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie snapper.
