Nokia is working on a new feature phone that will run Google's Android operating system. Here's everything you need to know.
While most people are shifting to the world of smartphones these days, there are still people who prefer a feature phone over a smartphone. However, buying a feature phone brings a ton of compromises. Nokia is planning to solve the problem and fill the bridge by launching an Android-powered feature phone.
Unlike feature phones we had five years ago, these days phones like JioPhone 2 come with KaiOS that allows users to install applications like Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and more. In order to bring competition to Reliance, HMD Global is now working on a new feature phone that will run on Google's Android operating system.
According to a recent report by 9to5Google, a leaked image has surfaced that showcases a feature phone that looks like the Nokia 220 but runs on Android. While there was no branding visible, the phone features a four-directional d-pad, T9 keyboard and other traditional features.
The image also highlights the software running on the feature phone. It looked like an Android interface featuring a home screen with a shortcut for Google Assistant. Apart from that, the home screen also features icons for YouTube, Chrome, camera and an app drawer icon. Notably, these icons follow Google's Material Design language.
There are high chances that it could be a version of Android Go, which is a toned-down version of Android. The operating system will be optimized for the feature phone it will also be light on the resources. However, we will need to wait for the feature phone to come out to see what is actually going on.
