OnePlus 3T: Should you still consider this as your next smartphone?

OnePlus announced the revamped version of the OnePlus 3 in November 2016 calling it the OnePlus 3T. Here is our quick review on the OnePlus 3T

OnePlus announced the revamped version of the OnePlus 3 in November 2016 calling it the OnePlus 3T. Consumers who got the OnePlus 3 had a few issues which the company solved by introducing the 3T. With the 3T the company decided to keep the same design but made some changes under the hood. The battery was improved, the front-facing camera got better and the processor got more efficient, rest of the things were similar to the 3. Here is our quick review on the OnePlus 3T eight months later.

Specifications

The OnePlus 3T is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 coupled with Adreno 530 GPU. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and a pixel density of 401ppi. The phone comes with 6GB of RAM and two storage options - 64GB and 128GB. The device currently runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. All of this is backed by a 3,400mAh battery. In the camera department, the phone comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, Optical Image Stabilization and LED flash. Up front, the phone comes with a 16-megapixel camera.

Performance

The OnePlus 3T is a powerful device as it comes with 6GB of RAM and Snapdragon 821. the processor being a bit old, it never negotiates with the every-day performance of the device. We haven't faced any issues so far with the performance of the smartphone. It still plays all the heavy games without any issue.

Battery Life

The OnePlus 3T was significantly more efficient than the OnePlus 3 due it's more power efficient processor and the larger battery packed inside. We were able to easily get it running for a full-working day with one full-charge and moderate usage. Thanks to the Dash-Charger that came in the box, charged the phone blazingly fast. The smartphone charged from 0 percent to 100 percent in about 90 minutes.

Camera

The camera on the OnePlus 3T is a 16-megapixel sensor that takes some great pictures. Most of the devices today are coming with a dual-camera setup which helps in getting good bokeh effect and zoom even more. The 3T misses the enrich feature of dual-cameras but still, it is able to take some pretty good shots. The smartphone is capable of 4K video recording.

Verdict

OnePlus 3T is still a pretty good smartphone and can manage to do most of the heavy tasks thrown at it. The phone never feels old with the full-metal slim unibody design. It still runs on the latest version of Android and the company has promised it will get updated to the next version of Android. The one thing which the device misses is the dual-camera setup. If you can withstand the lack of a dual-camera setup, this is probably one of the best devices under Rs. 30,000. The phone is currently priced at Rs. 27,999 which makes it Rs. 5,000 cheaper from the OnePlus 5. If you are on a tight budget you can go in with the 3T, it will never disappoint you. If you are using the 3T and planning to upgrade, this might not be a wise decision as you can wait for the next OnePlus flagship, until you are willing to spend the extra amount on a slight increase in performance and that extra camera sensor.
