Viva V1, World's most affordable phone launched in India: Price, Specifications

Viva, a new Indian start-up, has launched the worlds most affordable phone. Viva V1 is the first mobile phone by the company and is currently the cheapest feature phone available on the market. The feature phone is available at this price via the e-commerce website Shopclues. The phone is available in Blue and Orange colour variants and comes with a price tag of Rs. 349 only.

Specifications

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Viva V1 features a 1.44-inch monochrome display. The display is made in such a way that it is visible in cleary even in brighter environments. There might be a few phones available at around this price, but the Viva V1 comes with features like Vibrator, FM Radio, Torchlight which other phones might fail to offer. Interestingly, the feature phone also brings back the good old days of the Legendary Snake game. Keeping everything alive is a 650mAh battery which is sufficient for what the phone can do.

The feature phone sports a keypad which accepts user's input. The Viva V1 is currently available only in India. The device is also being manufactured in India, which helped the company to bring down the price of the phone to as low as Rs. 349.

This feature phone accepts a single 2G SIM for Calls and Messages. The phone comes with basic applications like Phonebook, Calculator, Calendar, and much more. Viva also provides a 1-year manufacturer warranty with the purchase of the V1.

The company is aiming to launch more feature phones in the future with an affordable price tag.

Idea announces Magic Cashback of up to Rs 3,300 on unlimited recharge plans, effected by Jio?

Aditya Birla Group-owned Idea Cellular recently announced a Magic Cashback offer of up to Rs 3,300 for all its prepaid users. It is available to all the Idea prepaid customers. Under this scheme all the users recharging with their unlimited plans, that is Rs 398 and above plans will be eligible to receive a cashback of up to Rs 3,300. Although, it should be noted that offer is applicable only when the recharge is done via an online platform. Also, if the users choose to recharge via either the company's website or the My Idea App, they will receive an additional cashback of Rs 200. This offer is only valid on recharges with their unlimited plan. The Magic Cashback can be availed until 10th February 2018 only.

How to Avail the Idea Magic Cashback offer

On recharging with Rs 398 or above-unlimited packs the customer will be eligible to receive the cashback. The cashback will be credited in the form of eight Rs 50 vouchers in the customer's account. These vouchers can be redeemed for recharges of Rs 300 or above under one year. Customers will also receive five shopping coupons worth Rs 2700.  This shopping coupons can be redeemed at idea's partner stores or websites all over the country.

The unlimited plans like Rs 398 recharge by Idea gives the customers unlimited voice calls on Local, STD and National Roaming. It also comes with 1 GB daily data and 100 SMS. These plans offer validity for 70 days. The new Magic Cashback offers come soon after Jio announcement of their latest cashback offer.

Reliance Jio announced their “More than 100 percent cash back” offer, valid only for its prime customers. Under their new offer, the users will get a cashback of up to Rs 700 when they recharge with plans of Rs 398 or above. The cashback is offered in the form of Jio cashback vouchers costing worth Rs 400 and Rs 300. This offer is only valid until 31st January 2018.

These are the 40 Xiaomi devices that will receive the MIUI 9 update

Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant, recently launched the much-awaited MIUI 9. MIUI 9 is an update to their popular Android based custom ROM MIUI. The update has already started hitting a few of the Xiaomi devices. The company has now announced a list of devices that will eventually get updated to MIUI 9. The company made this announcement on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website via their official account.

Surprisingly, the company is also rolling out the latest MIUI 9 update to the Mi 2 which was introduced in 2012. The company made this announcement during the MIUI 9 launch also. This is interesting as most companies only provide two major software updates to their smartphones.

However, the MIUI 9 is based on Google's Android Nougat operating system instead of the latest Android Oreo. This might not be a deal breaker for those using smartphones as old as the Mi 2. Currently, Mi A1 is the only device from the company that runs on Android Oreo. Notably, Mi A1 runs on stock Android while most of the other Xiaomi devices run on MIUI.

The company has only revealed the names of the 40 devices that will receive the MIUI 9 update. There are no fix dates given as of when these devices will get the update.

South Korean Giant, Samsung just unveiled their latest addition to their budget series of smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime is the latest addition to the line-up by the company. Its main selling point is the Samsung Pay mini support, an all-new Samsung Mall visual search feature. The device was recently spotted on the Samsung's UAE Site but is now made available in the country with many features which make it an interesting choice.

It is the first smartphone with the Samsung Mall feature. It was announced with the smartphone today. The Samsung Mall is a  feature of the camera application which lets users take a photo of a product or use an existing image from their gallery and make use of an advanced ai to find the product across various shopping sites. Both of the variants come with a micro-sd card slot with up to 256GB storage option.

If you are looking for launch offers, they include a Rs 2,000 cashback for JioMoney users, if they use the Rs 299 recharge for the next 24 months. The first Rs of the 800 cashback deal will be given after 12 months, and the next Rs 1,200 will be given after the 24 months period have ended.

Oppo A83 with AI technology launched in India: Price, Specifications and Availability

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Oppo, has launched another entry-level smartphone in India calling it the Oppo A83. According to Oppo, this smartphone uses “AI Beauty Recognition” technology which employs a cloud database from premium suppliers that have sufficient power to support diversified facial recognition in smart terminals.

Commenting on the launch, Will Yang, Brand Director, OPPO India said, "Our focus has always been on bringing best photography and Selfie experience to the Indian consumers. We have received an immense response for our Selfie Expert A Series and F Series. With the A83 we wish to bring an affordable selfie camera with advanced features such as the HD + Full Screen Display and AI Beauty Technology. The Oppo A83 features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440x720 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek 6763T processor clocked at 2.5GHz. The device packs in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage which is further expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The Oppo A83 runs on ColorOS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. Under the hood, there is a 3,180mAh battery powering up the internals.

Meizu M6s with a Halo Button Launched: Price Specifications and Availability

Chinese Consumer Electronic giant Meizu has finally unveiled their latest mid-range handset, the Meizu M6s. The Meizu M6s, as rumours predicted comes with a side-facing fingerprint scanner, and the smartphone does not sport a physical mBack key that has been one of the most important design features of the Meizu phones from the past few years.

Meizu M6s is a full metal body smartphone with its fingerprint scanner is placed on the right, just below its power key. A strange design decision which has been never seen before. On the left-hand side, you will find a volume rocker and a sim card tray. With the 18:9 aspect ratio display, the bezels on the device are quite thin.

Meizu with the M6s decided to replace the multi-function mBack key with something called as the ‘Halo Button’. Halo Button serves the same functionality as the mBack key used to do, but it is now more enhanced. Touching the button will act as a back key, while you can force touch it for the home key. Moreover, if you long-press the Halo Button, the display will lock and you can swipe it left and right in order to switch between your recent applications. Also, you can swipe up to activate the multitasking menu. All of these functionalities were embedded in the company's mBack key.

The Meizu M6s sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display with a 2.5D curved glass. The smartphone is powered by an Exynos 7872 64-bit hexacore processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage. The device runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat with Meizu's FlyMe 6.2 skin on top.

For the optics, there is a 16-megapixel rear shooter with f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens, CMOS sensor. For the selfies, there is an 8-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture. All of this is powered by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery.

Meizu M6s Price and Availability

The Meizu M6s is available in Champagne Gold, Matte Black, Moonlight Silver and Cobalt Blue colour variant and costs 999 Yuan(roughly Rs 9,900) for the 32GB variant and 1,199 Yuan (roughly Rs 11,900) for the 64GB variant. The device will go on sale on January 19th in China and is available for pre-order now. However, the availability of the device in India and other markets are unknown.

The company is expanding its business by not only giving a great messaging application to its customers but now the company has an operating system based on Android. The Total is an operating system by Hike which is based on Android. The speciality of this operating system is that it provides various services without using the mobile data.

Total by Hike has partnered up with telecom giant Airtel to enable USSD based services which will bring down the cost of data to as low as Re. 1. The company has also partnered up with Intex and Karbonn who will produce handsets running on the Total operating system out of the box.

On the launch of ‘Total, built by hike’, Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder and CEO, Hike said, “For the next billion true mobile-first users, coming online can still be quite complicated and intimidating. Simplify, simplify, simplify. That’s all we’ve been doing. We’ve taken the 15-20 step process of someone coming online and made it into only a few steps - “Buy a phone, turn it on and you’re good to go. Total brings a bunch of basic applications preinstalled which can work with just a minimum use of data.  The popular messaging application Hike Messenger will also work on all phones running on Total OS without consuming any data.

These services are being used over a new technology called universal transfer protocol (UTP) which is a better version of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD). Hike is the first company to introduce this technology around the world.

However, in cases where the user really needs to use data, he can quickly purchase packets for as low as Re. 1 which will give him 20MB of data.

Honor 9 Lite with four cameras launched in India: Price, Specifications and

Honor, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, finally launched the Honor 9 Lite in India. The smartphone is another mid-range offering from the company. The unique selling proposition of the Honor 9 Lite includes the 18:9 display and the dual-camera setup at the front as well as the back making a total of four camera sensors. The company also touted that India had the first overseas launch of the Honor 9 Lite and one month ahead of the global launch.

The device has been launched in two variants, one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and the other with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The smartphone runs on EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

On the optics front, the Honor 9 Lite sports a dual-camera setup at the back with a 13-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel camera with phase detection autofocus and a LED flash. Up front, there is the same 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup found at the back of the smartphone.

The Honor 9 Lite is priced at Rs. 10,999 for the 3GB + 32GB variant while the 4GB + 64GB variant retails for Rs. 14,999. Both the smartphones are exclusively available via the e-commerce website Flipkart. Customers purchasing these smartphones can get an instant cashback of 10 percent on using a Citi Bank Debit or Credit card. The smartphone will go on flash sales for the first time at 12 AM and 12 PM on January 21 followed by 12 noon on January 22 and 23.

Vivo X20 Plus UD with under display Fingerprint Scanner surfaced online, Specifications leaked

Vivo, during the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2018, surprised everyone by showcasing a smartphone with an under display fingerprint sensor. The Vivo X20 Plus UD will be the first smartphone to feature this much-awaited technology. The smartphone was spotted on TENAA, the Chinese certification website. The smartphone is very similar to the already available Vivo X20 Plus as UD here could just mean 'under display' fingerprint scanner.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Vivo X20 Plus will feature a 6.43-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2160x1080 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with Adreno 512 GPU. The device will come with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. The storage on the X20 Plus UD will be expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The smartphone will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and will be backed by a 3,800mAh battery.

On the camera front, there will be a dual-camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel camera coupled with a 5-megapixel camera and f/1.8 aperture, OIS and a LED flash. Up front, there will be a 12-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture and a selfie flash.

The under display fingerprint scanner was developed by Vivo in partnership with Synaptics. The company likes to call the under display fingerprint scanning technology as Clear ID. In the Vivo's upcoming smartphone the sensor sits between the glass protection and the OLED panel. This type of technology will soon be adopted by other smartphone manufacturers as well.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ launch date set, Pre-orders starting March 2018

We all know that currently the South Korean giant, Samsung, is working hard on introducing their next flagship Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. All the leaks and rumours have given us a glimpse of what the devices will look like and what will they carry under the hood. A recent leak has also confirmed the exact launch date of the smartphone alongside the pre-orders and shipping dates.

A renowned tipster, Evan Blass, in his recent tweet claimed that Samsung will take the wraps off the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus on February 26. To recall, Samsung's Mobile Communications Business President DJ Koh, during the CES 2018, revealed that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be unveiled during MWC 2018 which is scheduled for February 26 to March 1.

Evan Blass further claimed that the upcoming flagships Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be available for pre-orders starting March 1. The tipster also said that the company will start shipping the smartphones starting March 16. Blass says that these details have been leaked via a C-level executive at a major case maker.

Earlier leaks have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 for the U.S. variants while other regions will get Exynos 9810 powered variant. A recent leak also claimed that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will have the same battery capacities as found in the Galaxy S8 and S8+ respectively. The Galaxy S9 is expected to get a single rear camera module while the larger Galaxy S9+ might get a dual-camera setup at the back.
