Xiaomi Mi 10 launching in India on May 8: Expected price, specifications and more

Xiaomi Mi 10 is launching in India on May 8 via an online launch event. Here's the expected price, specifications and other details.

Xiaomi Mi 10 will be launched in India via an online livestream on May 8.

Xiaomi is now gearing up to launch the flagship Mi 10 smartphone in India. In an online press briefing today, the company announced that it will be launching the phone in the country on May 8.  the smartphone was initially set to launch on March 31. But, due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown, the company had to postpone it to a later date.

As the country has been on lockdown for over a month now, the Home Ministry has started to relax restrictions. This even implies to e-commerce sites, which means they will be able to start delivering non-essential goods in orange and green zones. Taking advantage of the opportunity, the Chinese manufacturer will be hosting an online launch event of the Mi 10 on Friday, May 8.

Xiaomi has already launched the Mi 10 flagship smartphone in global markets including Italy, France, Germany and more. The handset was first unveiled in China back in February. This means that we already know about the specifications and the features of the upcoming device. However, we will need to tune in to the livestream on May 8 for the price.

As for the pricing, the smartphone was launched in China with a starting price tag of CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 42,400). Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi Vice President and India Managing Director, earlier said that the phone will come with a different pricing model taking factors like import duty and GST in consideration. This means the Mi 10 will give a direct competition to the recently launched OnePlus 8 and Apple iPhone SE.

In my opinion, the company has to implement an aggressive pricing strategy to go against players like OnePlus, Samsung and Apple in the flagship market. As of now, Xiaomi is best known only for the smartphones sold under the price bracket of Rs. 20,000. If they are able to get the price close to Rs. 35,000, they will not only be able to beat Apple and OnePlus.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Specifications

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Xiaomi Mi 10 sports a 6.67-inch fullHD+ curved AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate. The handset will be powered by the quad-core Snapdragon 865 processor. It packs in up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. All of this backed by a 4,780mAh battery with support for 30W fast wired and wireless charging.

On the optics front, the Xiaomi Mi 10 sports a quad-camera setup at the back consisting of a 108-megapixel primary camera coupled with a 13-megapixel wide-angle lens and two 2-megapixel cameras. Upfront, there is a 20-megapixel selfie camera.
