Xiaomi rolls out Redmi 8, Redmi 8A kernel source codes: Here’s what it means

Xiaomi finally rolls out the kernel source code for Redmi 8A and Redmi 8 smartphones.

Redmi 8A is the cheapest smartphone on Xiaomi's portfolio.

Xiaomi recently launched two new budget-oriented smartphones, the Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A in India. The smartphones come with decent hardware and run on the MIUI software. Now, Xiaomi has released kernel sources for the Android Pie operating system for both the devices. This will help developers to work on the software and create custom ROMs for the smartphone.

The kernel source code will not only help the developers in creating custom ROMs, but they will now be able to better understand the system in order to optimise the performance of the device even further.

Recently, the company has also released kernel source codes of the popular handsets like Redmi Note 8, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi K20, Redmi 7A and Mi 9 Pro 5G. This states that the company will keep a decent track record and will release codes for all the popular smartphones soon after they are launched.

Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A Specifications

Redmi 8 and Redmi 8A are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor coupled with up to 3GB and 4GB of RAM respectively. Both the smartphones feature a 6.22-inch HD+ display. The devices also come with a massive 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. The smartphones run on Google's Android 9 Pie operating system layered with MIUI 10 on top of it.
