Here's how to remap the Pixel 2 Active Edge to any task or application

Google recently unveiled the much-awaited Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL. Both the smartphones came with an amazing new feature called the Active Edge which brings up the Google Assistant on squeezing the smartphone. Sadly, just like the Bixby button on Samsung, this could not be remapped until now. A team of XDA Developers has been working on this and now there finally a way to successfully remap the Active Edge. The best part about this that it does not require root.

Here is how to remap the Active Edge on your Pixel 2 smartphone

  • Download and Install the Button Mapper application from the Google Play Store
  • Head over to Settings and enable Developer Options

To enable Developer Options, you will need to go to the About Phone page under the Settings and tap on the Build number 5-7 times.

  • From the Developer Options enable USB Debugging
  • Connect your smartphone to the PC using a cable

  • Install ADB drivers on your PC
  • Open Command Prompt and type the following command

adb shell sh /data/data/flar2.homebutton/keyevent.sh

  • Make sure that Squeeze for assistant is turned on in the Settings
  • Open the Button Mapper application
  • Tap on Active Edge and enable Customize

From here you can customize the squeeze feature and set it to do a task like trigger the flashlight or open an application like the calculator.

This may not be the best solution to remap the Active Edge, but as of now, this is the only way to remap the squeeze functionality.
