Micromax Canvas Spark Review

Micromax has announced another affordable smartphone in the Indian market, which we feel would offer a good fight to all its competitors. The product in question is Micromax Canvas Spark, which most of us believed would carry a price tag of Rs 5,999, but the company surprised us by launching it at a competitive pricing of Rs 4,999. This makes it the cheapest Android Lollipop smartphone on the block.

Design
For a budget smartphone, the design philosophy of the Micromax Canvas Spark is good. It is minimalistic and gives you things that you would appreciate. It is very sleek and light weight. Also unlike some of its other smartphones, the Canvas Spark has a matte finish on its rear, which we liked. There is also a slight curve on the back that along with the matte finish gives a very nice grip to the device.

On the back of the phone, you would see the Micromax logo right in the center and the speaker grill at the bottom.

The Micromax Cavas Spark is graced by 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. It also comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Just below the display resides three capacitive navigation keys.

The phone packs in the 2,000mAh battery. While its competitor Moto E (first gen) comes with 1,980mAh battery and Infocus M2 comes with 2,010mAh battery.

Features

The best part about this smartphone is indeed that it runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The material design looks really good. Also the Micromax Canvas Spark packs in 1.3GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. There is 8GB of internal space, which can be expanded further via microSD card to up to 32GB.

The combined effect of all this is: an ultra-affordable smartphone by Micromax, which is responsive and loads apps fairly quickly. Though we are yet to see how the phone reacts to intensive games such as Dead Trigger however, we like the feel of the stock Android that it has on offer.
For camera, the company has fitted an 8MP rear one and a 2MP on the front, which is yet to be put to test by us.

Verdict

Micromax was one of the first handset vendors to start talking about affordable smartphones in India. In the recent past, other competitors like Motorola and Xiaomi have come in and intensified the competition in the space. However, Canvas Spark is a fitting reply to all the current competitors in the market. It has decent looks, packs some power, and the battery doesn't look too bad either.

The only trouble with this one is that you will have to go via the flash sale route to get your hands on this one.
