Xiaomi to unveil the Mi Mix 2S with Snapdragon 845 at MWC 2018

Xiaomi is currently working on bringing a successor to the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The successor will be named Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S and will carry a few upgrades here and there. As the Mi Mix line-up from Xiaomi is all about the display, the Mix 2S will also come with a nearly bezel-less display. Speculations are that the company might unveil the smartphone at MWC 2018 in Barcelona.

What to expect?

One of the major changes in the upcoming Mix 2 successor will be its processor. According to a few reports, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. Recently, the smartphone was spotted on AnTuTu which says the phone uses a Snapdragon 845 chip. My Drivers spotted a benchmarking list which shows the device name 'Polaris' which scores 2,70,461. The device codenamed Polaris is believed to be the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S.

If the smartphone is ready to arrive at the MWC, this could be the first smartphone to feature a Snapdragon 845 chipset. However, even if it is not the first in the world, it could be the first smartphone by Xiaomi to do so. Earlier reports claimed that Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be the first ones to come with Snapdragon 845. So, it will be interesting to see that who finally wins the race.

As per the leaks, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is expected to come with an iPhone X like notch up front. The smartphone is also expected to come with Face Recognition features. The smartphone is expected to launch with a price tag of CNY 4,000 (roughly Rs. 40,600.

Xiaomi India recently rolled out media invites for an upcoming event. The event is set for February 14 and will be held in New Delhi. Earlier speculations suggested that Xiaomi will be launching the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in the upcoming event in India. However, a recent report suggests that the company will be launching the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 at the event. The Redmi Note 5 is going to be a successor to the much popular Redmi Note 4.

A report that Xiaomi could launch the Redmi Note 5 was initially brought by Techook. Techook spotted the name "RedmiNote5" inside the JavaScript code managing the countdown timer on Mi.com. We verified the report by going to the same link and checking the script.

As far as the specifications are concerned, earlier reports suggest that the Redmi Note 5 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC. The smartphone will feature a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display. The display is said to come with 1080x2160 pixels resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device will pack 3GB or 4GB of RAM coupled with 32GB or 64GB of storage. Under the hood, there will be a 4,100mAh battery powering the internals. The Redmi Note 5 will run on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box.

In the camera department, the Redmi Note 5 is said to come with a dual camera setup at the back. The rear camera setup will include a 12MP and a 5MP sensor. Few reports suggest that the smartphone might come with a single 16-megapixel camera. Up front, there will be either 5-megapixel or 8-megapixel selfie shooter.

WhatsApp to introduce Group Calling, Stickers and much more

WhatsApp Messenger has become one of the most used cross-platform messaging application in the world. The Facebook-owned WhatsApp usually likes to try new features. These features help in making the user experience much better. Reports suggest that the company is now working on bringing the group calling feature to the application. The feature will make its debut in Android devices and will be followed by iOS.

According to WABetaInfo, the group video call feature will soon make its way to WhatsApp for Android. Initially, the group call will only allow a maximum of four participants in total. This new feature was found hidden in the Beta 2.17.437 version of the application. The next application update (2.17.443) brought a hidden string which said, “Couldn’t switch between voice and video call because this feature isn’t available in a group call."

Moving on further, the latest Beta updates for the app also bring stickers. The stickers found on WhatsApp look very similar to what we have seen on Facebook Messenger application. With the new stickers integration, the company is trying to cope up with the competition like Hike Messenger. The stickers tab was spotted on the WhatsApp Beta 2.18.32 for Android.

Additionally, there will also be a WhatsApp Stickers Packs Store. The store can be used to get more sticker options within the app. The company is also working on bringing the Payments feature to its application. The feature will use UPI based transactions in order to send or receive money. The feature is available on Beta 2.18.41 version and will soon make its way to the stable version.

Telecommunication giant Vodafone, taking on Jio and Airtel launched a new plan today. After the Jio's entry into the market, companies are discounting internet plan prices to remain relevant in the market. Vodafone is now offering 30GB of Internet data along with another freebie at Rs 399. However, the plan is available only to select customers.

Benefits of the new Vodafone Rs 399 Plan

The plan is only available to Vodafone RED postpaid customers only. The plan is available at Rs 399 and offers premium benefits such as unlimited local and STD calls. This includes free national roaming and 100 SMSes along with 30GB 3G/ 4G monthly data. Also, the customers who are moving from prepaid and other carriers, they will get 200GB for the first month.

Just like other plans by the company, the Rs 399 Vodafone RED exclusive plans have capped unlimited calls. The calls in the plan are capped at 250 minutes per day and 1,000 minutes per week. The new plan also includes Vodafone RED Shield. It is a device insurance. It offers clams to protect your smartphone from accidental damage and offer theft insurance.

How to avail Vodafone's new Plan?

Customers who are switching to the new Vodafone RED Rs 399 plan can easily do so. They will have to just 199 from their mobile phone. However, after the completion of six billing cycles, the customer will be charged Rs. 499. This is an increase of Rs 100 from the Rs 399 price. The official Vodafone site is yet to be updated with the new plan. However, the new Rs 399 plan is currently not available in all the cities. The new Vodafone RED plan offer gives the company a better positioning. With companies like Jio giving its customers get 30GB of 4G data at 1GB per day with the Rs 309 postpaid plan. Airtel, on the other hand, offers 20GB data per 30-day billing cycle. The airtel plan also costs Rs 399 per month and is called myInfinity postpaid plan.

OnePlus Founder Carl Pei says OnePlus X2 does not exist

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus was recently surrounded by rumours to release an updated version of the OnePlus X. The company launched the OnePlus X long time ago and it never picked up. The new version dubbed the OnePlus X2 will be an upgrade to the device. However, Carl Pei, OnePlus CEO and Founder have put an end to all these rumours. Carl Pei took to Twitter to make it clear. He clearly denied any rumours of the company launching the second-generation OnePlus X. In other words, the company denied any rumours of refreshing the X lineup.

How the OnePlus X2 rumour started?

It all started when TechPP reported that OnePlus is working on refreshing the OnePlus X lineup. According to the report, the OnePlus X2 would be released alongside the OnePlus 6. The OnePlus X2 along with the OnePlus 6 is likely to launch in June this year. As the original OnePlus X was a mid-segment device, the new OnePlus X2 will also be a  mid-segment device. It is speculated to be available at a price of Rs 15,000 and Rs 17,000 in India if it ever launches.

The OnePlus X2 according to the rumours would be a 5.5-inch 16:9 display device. It will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 4GB RAM. It will come in either 32 or 64GB storage. For the optics, it will sport a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing snapper with Face Unlock. All of this will be powered by a 3000mAh battery. However, Carl Pei has denied all such rumours.

OnePlus X2 actually in the work?

This is not the first time we have seen rumours of OnePlus making plans to launch the OnePlus X2 in the market. However, back in 2016, Pete Leu told Engadget in an interview that the company has no plans for the follow-up model to the OnePlus X. This is due to the fact that the company faced a lot of criticism due to the OnePlus X

The original OnePlus X sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display along Snapdragon 801 processor. It has 3GB RAM and a premium metal and glass body. The phone was priced at Rs 16,999.
