Xiaomi has finally launched the budget-friendly Xiaomi Redmi 5 in India. The smartphone is being touted as a "Compact Powerhouse" by the company. The Redmi 5 is launched in order to fill the gap between the Redmi 5A and the Redmi Note 5. The highlights of the smartphone include it's 18:9 display up front.
Specifications
As far as the specifications are concerned, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC. The smartphone features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720x1440 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is launched in three variants which include 2GB RAM+16GB storage, 3GB RAM+32GB storage and the 4GB RAM+64GB storage variant. Xiaomi Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9.1 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box. Under the hood, there is a 3,300mAh battery powering up the internals.

On the optics front, the Redmi 5 sports a 12-megapixel camera at the back. The rear camera comes with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and a LED flash. Up front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
The connectivity options on the Xiaomi Redmi 5 include 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a microUSB port. The smartphone also features a fingerprint scanner located at the back.
Price and Availability
Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5 at a starting price of 7,999 for the 2GB RAM+16GB storage variant. The 3GB RAM+32GB and the 4GB RAM+64GB storage variants of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 are priced at Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 10,999 respectively. The smartphone is exclusive to Amazon India and will be available starting March 20. Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be available in Black, Gold, Blue and Rose Gold colour options.
