Is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 worth it or should you just grab the Galaxy S8+

Samsung currently has three flagship offerings for its customers including the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus and the Note 8. For the people who are fans of those large displays with incredible performance, Samsung has come up with the S8 Plus and the Note 8. However, due to a larger S8 in the market people often tend to get confused between the Note 8 and the S8 Plus. Here are all the differences between the S8 Plus and the Note 8 which will help you make your decision.

Display

Samsung S8 banner

Both the flagships come with Super AMOLED displays with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels with 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The difference comes at the size which is only 0.1-inch as the Note 8 has a larger 6.3-inch display with 521ppi while the S8 Plus comes with a 6.2-inch display with 529ppi. Due to the 0.1-inch larger display, the Note 8 does look a bit wider and bigger than the S8 Plus.

S-Pen

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 S pen

S-Pen is the key feature of the Note series by Samsung where the stylus brings a whole lot of features to the smartphone. The S-Pen is something which not everyone likes, but if one gets used to it, it is a thing the person cannot leave. The S8 or S8 Plus buyers will never have the privilege to use an S-Pen with their smartphones.

Performance

The Galaxy Note 8 and the S8 Plus being the flagships of the company come with the high-end Exynos 8895 SoC or the Snapdragon 835 depending on the region you live. Both the processors are very capable and very powerful. However, comparing the base variants the major difference comes with RAM where S8 Plus comes with 4GB of RAM and the Note comes with 6GB of RAM. Both the devices will perform really great, but when it comes to multi-tasking, Note 8 will be able to do it slightly better than the S8 Plus.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus also has a 6GB RAM variant which is still significantly cheaper than the Note 8. The 6GB variant of the S8 Plus comes with 128GB of onboard storage.

Camera

Note 8 camera

One of the major differences between the Galaxy Note 8 and the S8 Plus is the rear-facing camera where the Note 8 comes with a dual-camera setup while the S8 Plus sports a single sensor. The Note 8 features a 12-megapixel dual-camera setup with dual OIS. The S8 Plus comes with a 12-megapixel Dual pixel camera sensor with f/1.7 aperture. The Note 8 does have an edge here as the dual-camera setup helps in better images and it also comes with a Live Focus feature which might be liked by many.

Verdict

Making a decision while buying a smartphone can be really difficult when the smartphone manufacturers have a huge portfolio. Here we have simplified your decision making by giving you all the differences between both the smartphones. So, the people who really want a dual-camera setup on their smartphone or want a stylus because they have been using it for a long time, the Note8 is made for them. However, people who do not care about having an S-Pen or a dual-camera setup can save some money and opt-in for the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus.

However, people can save even more money if they can manage with a bit smaller display of 5.8-inch by buying the Samsung Galaxy S8.

Twitter product manager, Jesar Shah, announced in a blog post yesterday that the Twitter Lite app is rolling out in 24 more nations.

Some of the highlights of the Twitter Lite application mentioned by him include:

  • Loads quickly on 2G and 3G networks, and offers offline support in case you temporarily lose your connection.
  • Minimizes data usage, and offers a data saver mode to download only the images or videos you want to see.
  • Reduces install size to under 3 MB

Here's how to format your Android smartphone properly

The smartphone industry is ever growing and people tend to switch their smartphones in order to upgrade to new ones at least once in two years if not earlier. So when a person switches to a new smartphone, they often decide to give the old smartphones to someone or just sell it to decrease the damage done by the newer model. These Android smartphones carry some really important information collected during the period of time we use them. So it is really important to delete every bit of data stored.

Usually, when we press the 'delete' button, the smartphone does not delete the files but actually hides them somewhere and shows some free space. This is done so that if you accidentally deleted anything, it can be recovered by some tweaks. This also takes place to keep the storage of the device in a smooth running condition as a lot of modifications can damage the storage.

Encrypt your device

Android smartphones have a feature called 'Encrypt' where the data is scrambled in such a way that no one will be able to access them. Here is how you can encrypt your smartphone.

  • Head over to Settings
  • Tap on Security and then tap on 'Encrypt Phone'

These steps might vary from phone to phone. Also, some smartphones might come Encrypted out of the box.

Hard Reset

Instead of your traditional way of going into settings and formatting your device, we suggest you do it from your Android smartphone's recovery mode.

  • Power off your smartphone
  • Press and hold the power button and volume down button
  • Navigate to Factory Data Reset

Do note that this procedure might differ from phone to phone. The key combination might be different for some phone to get into recovery mode. If you are not able to access recovery mode with this key combination, you might need to Google your 'phone name' with 'recovery mode'. If you are not able to access your recovery mode, you can still go with the traditional way of formatting as the phone is encrypted (if you followed the above steps).

When the LG G6 came out it was a bit late in the game and brought Snapdragon 821 under the hood. The company is trying to fix it this year by launching the flagship a little bit earlier.
