Sony is reportedly looking to get back into the handheld console market. To recall, the company dominated the segment at a point with is PSP, after which it launched its PS Vita, which was decently popular. However, after that it was complete silence from Sony's side in that domain, letting Nintendo be the king of the segment with its Switch.

According to a new report by Insider Gaming, Sony is currently QA testing a new handheld gaming console, dubbed PlayStation Q Lite. The device has been described like a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller with an addition of an 8-inch LCD display in the middle. The report further mentions that the device will only work with Sony’s PlayStation Remote Play.

The handheld device is said to be able to stream PS5 games, but does not have the ability to play its own games without an internet connection. We also do not know if the said device will be able to utilise other cloud-based gaming platforms or not.

If just an extension for the PS5, then the PlayStation Q Lite could be similar to the Wii U Gamepad, which connected to the Nintendo Wii U via a modified low-latency Wi-Fi protocol. The Wii U Gamepad, allowed player to play their Wii U games on the smaller screen till they were on the same network as the console.

According to the report, the PlayStation Q Lite comes with adaptive triggers, speakers, volume buttons and a 3.5mm audio jack. It will sport an 8-inch LCD display with a 1080p resolution at 60fps. The company is expected to launch its new handheld device, after it launches its PS5 with a detachable disc drive and before the PlayStation 5 Pro.
