BlackBerry working on the most secure Android OS yet

BlackBerry has always been proud about the security advantage of their Operating System over the years. But that time has passed with the rigidity and lack of apps on the BB platform. Now, the company might just be back for their resurgence. The Canadian giant announced that they will be killing off their own BB OS10, and working on Android for their new devices. BlackBerry has recently signed brand-licensing deals with Optiemus in India, giving the right to design, manufacture and sell BB devices using the BlackBerry name. They have a similar partnership with TCL globally.

Nokia 6 Review: Best Budget Smartphone?

A few weeks ago, HMD Global introduced three new smartphones, the Nokia 3, 5 and 6. Nokia 6 on Thursday finally hit the sale and was sold out in less than a minute. The smartphone is available exclusively via Amazon India and is priced at Rs. 14,999. Since, the launch of the smartphone, there are many people out there looking forward to getting their hands on the device. Here is our review on the Nokia 6 which might help you make a decision regarding the smartphone.

Nokia 6 5

Specifications

Nokia 6 packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The internal storage on the device is expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and a pixel density of 403ppi. All of this is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. The phone runs on stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Nokia 6 4

Performance

Nokia 6 is surely not the smartphone for performance hungry applications and games. With the Snapdragon 430 chipset coupled with Adreno 505, it is not a smartphone for heavy games like the Asphalt 8 and the Injustice 2. However, the 3GB of RAM does help in delivering some fair multitasking experience. During our review, we did notice minor lags here and there.

Software

Software on the Nokia 6 is something which impressed us. The stock Android experience on the phone felt very much like Pixel or the Nexus devices. When we booted up the device, we were greeted by a bunch of Amazon apps like the Amazon Shopping, Amazon Prime Videos and the Amazon Kindle.

Except for the Amazon applications pre-installed, there was no bloatware what so-ever. Instead of a separate gallery app, we had the Google Photos app. Everything was very much stock and the experience was great. Also, not to forget, Nokia has promised that the Nokia 6 will be soon updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.

Camera

The camera on the Nokia 6 is not something great but gets the job done. The camera is good enough but some of its competitors deliver better photographs. However, the details we get from the shots taken by the Nokia 6 camera are pretty accurate and nice to look at. The front camera on the Nokia 6 was good in outdoor conditions.

Pros

  • Build Quality
  • Stock Android

Cons

  • Lacks Fast-charging
  • Minor Lags
  • A bit overpriced

Verdict

Nokia 6 1

HMD Global did a great job with the comeback of Nokia smartphones and one of the first smartphones since the comeback is the Nokia 6. The Nokia 6 has a great design and a build quality that speaks for itself. The build quality does give a lot of confidence to the user and can bear a few drops easily. The performance was a let down for the device at the price. Going with stock Android was an appreciable move by Nokia and the software experience did impress us. The fingerprint scanner on the Nokia 6 is not the fastest but is pretty accurate. Also, not to forget, every time we boot up the Nokia 6, we are greeted by the old Nokia sound which reminds us of the company's old mobile phones. Even the default ringtone and the message tune on the Nokia 6 are from the old days. People who have the love for Nokia and want great build quality will love this device. But if you are a power user, who likes to play a lot of games, this phone might not be a right choice for you.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus vs Note 8: Which one should you consider?

Samsung on Wednesday finally launched the most awaited Galaxy Note 8. The phone had so much of attention just because of the last year's disaster which had let down many Note fans. The Note 8 is an impressive smartphone and the front of the device is a lot more familiar to what we have seen with the S8 and S8+. Every year the company keeps somewhat similar design language for the S and the Note series. Not everything is same and that is why we are bringing a quick comparison of the Note 8 and the S8+, letting you know what has changed and what remained.

Design

Note 8 1

The design is something which is very similar to both the devices. People loved the Infinity display on the S8 and S8+ because of which Samsung decided to keep the beautiful stunning display. Flip the Note 8, and you will be greeted by a dual-camera setup with the fingerprint scanner sitting right beside. The fingerprint scanner on the Note 8 is similar to the S8+ which is not liked by everyone as the place is not reachable easily. However, the placement of the fingerprint scanner helps in keeping the elegance of the smartphones.

Camera

Live Focus on the Note 8

One of the major difference between the S8+ and the Note 8 is the camera. The S8+ sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, whereas the Note 8 features a 12-megapixel dual-camera setup at the back with OIS on both the camera sensors. So, the camera is something which will make a huge difference between the S8+ and the all-new Note 8. The Note 8 can significantly capture better shots when compared to the S8 or S8 Plus. Not to forget the Note 8 has this awesome feature called Live Focus, which S8+ users can only dream of.

S-Pen

note 8 s pen

S-Pen, one word which can roll over your decision of buying an S8+ to buying a Note 8. S-Pen is the signature feature of the Samsung's Note lineup and this is what makes it different. The S-Pen is something which not everyone likes, but if one gets used to it, it is a thing the person cannot leave. The stylus on the Note 8 is just not an ordinary stylus as it packs in a whole bunch of features. However, S8+ users can never get the joy of using an S-Pen.

Specifications

Samsung Galaxy S8+ and the Note 8 are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC is the US and China, whereas the other regions have the Exynos 8895 variant. Note 8 comes with 6GB of RAM whereas the S8+ users have the option to choose from 4GB + 64GB variant or the 6GB+ 128GB variant.

Verdict

Note 8 main

The S8+ and the Note 8 are flagships from the company and do a pretty good job at delivering great smartphone experience. On the specification front, when compared to the S8 Plus's 6GB RAM variant, both the devices look the same on the paper and should deliver the same performance as well. The major difference comes when we talk about the camera or the S-Pen.

Currently, we are not aware of the exact pricing details of the Note 8, but we know that it would be a bit expensive than the S8 Plus. So, if you are a camera enthusiast or love the S-Pen feature, you might consider buying the Note 8 over the S8 plus and the extra amount spent won't pinch you as the features of the Note 8 will justify the price. If you are on a very tight budget or dual-cameras and the S-Pen don't matter much to you, the S8+ is a great option.

Nuu Mobile M3: Hands-on Review

Nuu Mobile on Thursday launched four new smartphones and the M3 is the best-looking device of the lot with an all metal body and a with a very smooth finish. M3 has a 5.5-inch HD IPS display. The colours are vibrant and device over all feels pretty premium. However, the device lacks a very ordinary feature of fingerprint-sensor. The specifications aren't the ones that would catch your eyes. The device is priced at Rs. 12,499. At this price, the Nuu M3 isn't comparable to its competition.

Nuu m3

Specification of the Nuu M3

The device sports a 5.5-inch HD IPS screen with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The device has good viewing angles which are bright and also with fairly impressive colours. Nuu M3 is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MTK6737 SoC, which is coupled with just 2GB of RAM. M3 has internal storage of 32GB, which is expandable through MicroSD. The Nuu M3 is running on stock Android 7.0 Nougat Out-of-the-box.

The camera on the M3 is equipped with a primary shooter lens of 8-megapixel on the back. The front of the device has a 5-megapixel sensor for your selfie needs. The device is also equipped with a battery of 3,200mAh and offers all basic connectivity features.

Hands On Review

Nuu M3

The device feels quite premium to hold with all metal body and rounded corners. Similar to all other Nuu smartphones, this also features a MediaTek SoC, which quite frankly is disappointing at this price. The device isn't equipped for any kind of hardcore gaming. The device doesn't feature a Fingerprint sensor, which is quite a big letdown, as that feature can be found on device half the price of M3. The battery is also quite small for a 5.5-inch HD display, and there is no confirmation of fast-charging. We took some photos in good lighting conditions and pictures appeared to be quite comparable to any entry-level Android smartphone. The device even with its price tag doesn't offer anything out of the ordinary and misses out on some very common features.

Nuu Mobiles launches flagship Nuu X5: Hands on Review

Nuu mobile came into the Indian market with 4 new devices, with one of them being their mid-range flagship device, the Nuu X5. With a price of 15,999, the device is in the most competitive market with the likes of Redmi Note 4 and Moto G5 Plus.

Nuu X5 hands-on

Specifications

The Nuu X5 sports a Zinc-aluminium alloy casing with the fingerprint sensor sitting at the back. The device is powered by a 1.5 GHz Octa-core MediaTek SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM. X5 sports a 5.5-inch Full-HD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. The smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Internal storage on the device is 32GB which is further expandable through a microSD card.

X5 has a single lens 13-megapixel primary camera with LED flash. On the front, the device has a 5-megapixel wide angle camera lens. The device has a 2950mAh battery, although the company haven't informed about any type of fast charging.

Hands-On Review

Even though this device is a flagship from the company, it's a pretty average device. With the MediaTek processor, it would make you think if you can you trust the device when cheaper devices offer better chipset. The device has very average specifications for the price. Nevertheless, the big plus of the device is it's running stock Android 7.0 which seems to work fine without any noticeable lag on our brief usage of the device. Also, the company promises fairly fast updates. The metal body feels very premium with a Full HD screen, which is bright and colourful inside. We weren't able to test the device under sunlight for the screen performance.

Nuu X5

The camera on the X5 is a 13-megapixel sensor with autofocus and a LED flash. We took some shots from the device under good lighting conditions. The shots turned out to be pretty average, with other devices in the segment being leaps and bounds ahead of the X5. Up front, the smartphone has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, which is a wide angle lens. The camera does a pretty average job on selfies under good lighting.
