Apple iPhone SE successor to launch in early 2020: Here's what to expect

Apple is working on a second-generation iPhone SE to penetrate the emerging markets like India. Here's what you need to know.

Apple introduced the iPhone SE back in March 2016. It came with iPhone 6s specifications inside an iPhone 5S body. The smartphone really got popular in markets where people were not able to afford the flagship iPhone 6S. Also, it got popular amongst people who prefer a smaller form factor. The company is now finally coming up with a successor to the iPhone SE.

While the company is gearing to launch new iPhones next week, the iPhone SE successor will not be launched at the September launch event. It is expected to be launched later in March 2020. The cheaper iPhone will be focused on emerging markets like India and China.

As far as the specifications are concerned, there are not many details revealed yet. However, the reports claim that the upcoming iPhone SE successor will feature a form factor similar to the Apple iPhone 8. It means that the phone will sport a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display. Apart from that, it is expected to share the same components as the flagship iPhones.

With the launch of the second-generation iPhone SE, Apple will be competing against smartphone brands like Samsung, Huawei and OnePlus in the mid-to-high range smartphones. Also, the smartphone will compete directly against the recently launched Google Pixel 3a.

In order to make the next generation iPhone SE popular in India, the company will need to come up with an aggressive pricing strategy and launch the smartphone for a price tag below Rs. 50,000. Currently, the cheapest iPhone available in the country is the iPhone 7, a three-year-old flagship, priced at Rs. 36,499.
