Blackberry Evolve and Evolve X First Impressions: Ultimate Security and nothing more?

BlackBerry, Evolve, Evolve X
Does offering more security on Android good enough to sell smartphones?

BlackBerry introduced two new smartphones exclusively for the Indian market, the BlackBerry Evolve an Evolve X. Unlike the rest of the BlackBerry, the newly announced smartphones focus of a broader group of people by offering full touch-screen display instead of a physical keyboard. With this, the smartphone manufacturer is trying to attract an even larger group of people.

BlackBerry Evolve

The BlackBerry Evolve is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with Adreno 506. The smartphone sports 4GB RAM along with 64GB storage. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with all the BlackBerry security features on the top including their DTEK suite and power and ram management tools. The company promises to provide instant updates for the operating system as and when they are made available. All of this is backed up by a 4,000mAh battery which the company claims will last more than 2 days. The smartphones also come with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology for fast charging.

BlackBerry, Evolve, Evolve X
The front of the Evolve sports an 18:9 aspect ratio display

On the optics front, the Evolve bears a 13-megapixel dual-camera setup at the back with f/2.2 aperture. One of the lenses is an RGB sensor while the other one is a monochrome sensor. Up front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

Design

The Blackberry Evolve features quite a unique design. The smartphone sports 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio, still it has a lot of bezels on the top and the bottom. There is the BlackBerry branding at the bottom of the display, a signature look. The back sports the same rubber back which we have seen in the rest of the Blackberry smartphones in the recent times. What's interesting is that the smartphone sports wireless charging even after sporting a rubber back. The rear camera unit and the fingerprint sensor is squarish in shape which gives the smartphone a boxy look.

Overall, the design on the BlackBerry Evolve looks every industrialist and may appeal to some and may not to others. The smartphones these days are designed to look flamboyant, however, the Evolve still goes backs to the roots and looks more purposeful. Like the rubber back increases grip and doesn't need a case to protect it unlike the glass sandwiches of modern days.

Camera

The BlackBerry Evolve sports a 13-megapixel dual-camera setup at the back with f/2.2 aperture. One of the lenses is an RGB sensor while the other one is a monochrome sensor. Up front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

The colours on the Evolve's camera are a little bright. The contrast is great and so is the white balance. The Evolve also features a bokeh mode on both the front as well as the rear camera. The bokeh mode works amazing, however, the background blurring is too much for my taste. The story is the same for the front camera, apart from the fact, that the colours are a little more accurate on the front camera.

Evolve X

The BlackBerry Evolve X is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with Adreno 512. The smartphone sports 6GB RAM along with 64GB storage. The smartphone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with all the BlackBerry security features on the top including their DTEK suite and power and ram management tools.

Evolve X looks similar to the Evolve in terms of design

On the optics front, the Evolve bears a 12-megapixel + 13-megapixel telephoto dual-camera setup at the back with f/1.8 and f/2.6 aperture respectively. Up front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

Design

The Blackberry Evolve X features quite a unique design similar to its cheaper sibling, the Evolve. All of this is the same as the Blackberry Evolve. The differences arrive at the back with the rear camera unit and the fingerprint sensor is rounded in shape which gives the smartphone a modern sleek look.

Overall, the design on the BlackBerry Evolve X looks every industrialist combined with a classiness. The final design verdict on the Evolve X is the same as its younger sibling.

Camera

The BlackBerry Evolve X sports a 13-megapixel + 12megapixel telephoto dual-camera setup at the back with f/1.8 and f/2.6 aperture respectively. Up front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

Sadly, the Evolve X units present at the launch event were prototypes and didn't have the camera app installed onto them. So we couldn't test out the camera.

Conclusion

The BlackBerry Evolve costs Rs. 24,990 while the Evolve X is priced at Rs 34,990 and both the devices are Amazon Exclusive. Given the specifications and the security features of the smartphones, I personally think that the smartphones are a bit expensive. However, if you are in desperate need of ultimate security on your phone, then these smartphones are for you. If you don't care for the great security features these smartphones offer, we suggest you ignore them.

Xiaomi Qin AI feature phone launched: Price, Features and Availability

xiaomi, qin, xiaomi qin ai, ai feature phone
Xiaomi Qin AI feature phone does not feature any cameras

Reliance Jio and HMD Global were the two companies who thought bringing back the feature phones to the market is a great idea. Surprisingly, it worked and now even a company like Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi Qin AI feature phone. The company launched the phone with the help of its crowdfunding platform in China.

Unlike the JioPhone and the new Nokia phones which run on KaiOS, the Xiaomi Qin AI feature phone runs on Android. Users can control the UI using a T9 keypad and view everything on a small 2.8-inch colour display with a resolution of 320x240pixels. Just like the JioPhone, the Qin AI is also 4G VoLTE-enabled.

As the Xiaomi Qin AI feature phone runs on Android, it comes with an SC9820E ARM Cortex A53 chipset which is a 1.3GHz dual-core processor. The dual-SIM handset packs in 256GB MB of RAM and 512MB of onboard storage which is further expandable using a microSD card. Unfortunately, this feature phone does not come with any cameras. However, it does include an infrared sensor like the Redmi phones which allows users to control their home appliances like TV, AC and much more.

As the JioPhone came with a voice assistant, Xiaomi had to go one step further and include AI features which can translate up to 17-languages in real time. The AI can also dictate bedtime stories or poems to kids.

The Xiaomi Qin AI is currently available for pre-order via the company's own crowdfunding platform. The feature phone is priced at RMB 199 (roughly Rs. 1990) and will be available in Black and White colour variants. The device will start shipping from September 15.

Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i First Impressions: is AI enough to sell the phone?

Are the AI-powered smartphones the future or its just a gimmick?

Chinese Smartphone manufacturer, Huawei recently launched Nova 3 and Nova 3i in India. Both the smartphones come with AI-based processors and features made for improving the way the user interacts with the device. Along with that the Nova 3 and the Nova 3i packs dual rear and front camera setup.

Huawei Nova 3

Huawei, Nova 3, Nova 3i, First Impressions
The Nova 3 features similar design to Honor 10

The highlights of the smartphone include the 3,750mAh battery and a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (1080×2340) 19.5:9 aspect ratio display. The smartphone is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 970 chipset coupled with MAli-G72 GPU. The smartphone packs 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. The device sports a 16-megapixel f/1.8 rear sensor coupled with a 24-megapixel f/1.8 aperture at the back. The front camera sensor is a 24-megapixel sensor along with a 2-megapixel sensor. The dual-SIM dual VoLTE handset also packs features like AI sorting and face recognition along with scenery recognition.

Design

The Huawei Nova 3 sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The company claims a near bezel-less display, however, the smartphone has a big chin and a notched display. The display is good enough and vivid. The overall build quality is great for the price tag, par with the OnePlus 6, industry leader in this segment. The device feels sturdy in hand and it looks and feels premium. Also, the glass sandwich makes the devices slippery, so you would want to put a case on that. Also, the Iris purple color looks amazing.

Huawei, Nova 3, Nova 3i, First Impressions
The Iris Purple looks gorgeous.

Overall, the looks of the smartphone are subjective. Some may like the notched display and for some, it is a big no. That makes the Huawei Nova 3's design a bit subjective to user opinion.

Huawei Nova 3i

Huawei, Nova 3, Nova 3i, First Impressions
The Nova 3i sports a 19.5L9 aspect ratio display

The highlights of the smartphone include the 3,340mAh battery and a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (1080×2340) 19.5:9 aspect ratio display. The smartphone is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 710 chipset. The smartphone packs 6GB RAM with 128GB storage. The device sports a 16-megapixel rear sensor coupled with a 2-megapixel sensor at the back. The front camera sensor is a 24-megapixel sensor along with a 2-megapixel sensor. The dual-SIM dual VoLTE handset also packs features like AI sorting and face recognition along with scenery recognition.

Design

The Huawei Nova 3i sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The company claims a near bezel-less display, however, the smartphone has a big chin and a notched display. The display is good enough and vivid. The overall build quality is good enough for the price tag. The rear glass doesn't feel as good and looks like plastic coated to look like glass. The device feels sturdy in hand and it looks premium and feels less premium than that. Also, the Iris purple color looks amazing.

Huawei, Nova 3, Nova 3i, First Impressions
The Nova 3i is identical to the Nova 3 in design.

Overall, the looks of the smartphone are subjective. Some may like the notched display and for some, it is a big no. That makes the Huawei Nova 3i's design a bit subjective to user opinion. Apart from that, the cheap looking and feeling glass back of the smartphone surely is a big negative for the smartphone design.

Camera

The camera on the Huawei Nova 3 and Nova 3i are extremely similar so we will cover that under one section only. On the optics front, both the devices sports a dual front camera setup. It consists of a 24-megapixel sensor coupled with a 2-megapixel sensor. The photos are you can say great for the price of the Nova 3i and good for Nova 3. The AI scene detection and improvement to the photos certainly give the camera's an edge over the others. The contrast is quite good. However, the smartphone can't apply AI improvement when it is not required for making photos look at little artificial.

For the rear camera, the Huawei Nova 3 sports a 16-megapixel f/1.8 aperture rear camera along with 24-megapixel f/1.8 aperture sensor. While the Nova 3i cuts costs on the rear camera offering only 16-megapixel sensor along with a 2-megapixel sensor. In both the Nova 3 and the Nova 3i, the AI makes the photos look artificial. That may be okay for some, but in our case, it is not that effective. Yes, it can detect scenario's and adjust according to that, but it leaves makes the photos look artificial.

As for the rest of the camera, the colors of both the smartphone's sensors are great. However, the Nova 3's contrast is a little high. Rest the smartphone camera is what we have come to expect at this price range. We didn't try to bokeh mode, but we think the bigger secondary sensor of the Nova 3 will make it better in bokeh mode than the Nova 3i;

Price

The Huawei Nova 3 will cost you Rs. 34,999 in India while the Nova 3i will cost your Rs. 20,999 in India. Both the smartphones are Amazon exclusive and the pre-booking has already started. The Nova 3i will go on sale on August 7th while the Nova 3 will go on sale on August 23rd. The smartphones will be available in Iris Purple and Black color variants.

Huawei, Nova 3, Nova 3i, First Impressions
The Nova 3 is worth the money, but the 3i has a tough compedition

The Nova 3i is one of the best smartphones in its price segment. Especially considering Rs. 15,000 - Rs. 25,000 segment is being ignored by other companies. Huawei knows their target audience with the Nova 3i and its a great option for the price point. However, with the Nova 3, the things are little different.

The smartphone costs the same as the OnePlus 6, Honor 10, Zenfone 5z and more. Also, the AI based processor of the Nova 3 loses in the raw performance like gaming to the OnePlus 6's Snapdragon 845. This makes the Nova 3 favorable only if one needs the AI features more than performance. If the AI features like AI gallery sorting and more are necessary for you, then the Nova 3 is a great option else, there are better smartphones in the market.

How to use Your Phone feature on Windows 10 to link your Android device

Microsoft Windows 10 is one of the most popular operating systems

Microsoft is currently testing out a new Windows 10 feature called Your Phone. The feature will be available in the next Insider Preview Build 17728. The feature will allow Windows 10 users to easily access photos taken via their Android phone. The Your Phone app will allow a much better integration between Windows and Android.

The feature was initially announced by Microsoft back in May at the Microsoft Build Developer conference. The company promised that the new feature will allow a better communication between Windows PCs and various smartphones. One of the main features of Your Phone is supposed to be its ability to synchronise photographs automatically. Microsoft also claims that Your Phone will be able to bring notifications as well as text messages from your phone to the PC.

microsoft, windows, windows 10, ios. android
Your Phone will allow instant access to photos taken on your Android smartphone

The feature is not a new idea as MacOS and iOS have been doing this for years. Some people do prefer an Apple eco-system because that eco-system allows them to synchronise between various devices with ease.

Users with a Windows PC and an Android smartphone can also make the synchronisation possible via a few apps. To synchronise pictures and videos users can use Microsoft's One Drive. There are other third-party services also like Google Drive, Google Photos and many more.

In order to sync messages and notifications, users can always use a third party app like Air Droid. However, Microsoft wants to eliminate the need for such apps and wants to give a seamless experience via its popular OS itself.

The Your Phone feature will be initially available only for the users who are a part of the Windows Insiders program. To use the feature, users will also need an Android device running on Android 7.0 Nougat or above. If the feature works well, Microsoft will soon push out the feature to the regular version of Windows 10.

Here's how you can mark WhatsApp messages as read without even opening the app

WhatsApp
WhatsApp is a popular cross-platform messaging application

WhatsApp is one of the most popular cross-platform messaging application. The Facebook-owned company constantly keeps updating the application in order to bring new features as well as fix any bugs. The company also has a beta version of the app available for Android on the Google Play Store. In the recent Beta update, the app has allowed users to "Mark as Read" any message from the notification panel itself.

One of the best features of WhatsApp is its ability to send read receipts to the senders. These read receipts are usually sent once the app is opened and the message is read. However, there are people who usually read messages from the notifications panel itself. Some people hesitate to open the app as it would update their Last Seen status. So, WhatsApp has now introduced the feature on the latest beta version 2.18.232.
