Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 starts receiving MIUI 9.5 update in India

Xiaomi recently introduced the Redmi 5 Plus as the Redmi Note 5 in India. The smartphone has been through a couple of flash sales since its launch. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has now started receiving its first major update, the Global stable build of MIUI 9.5. The MIUI 9.5 update will also soon make its way to the other smartphone including the Mi 3 and Redmi 3 via an OTA update in April.

Xiaomi's new MIUI 9.5.4.0.NCFMIFA update brings a bunch of new features, optimisations, and bug fixes to the table. The new features include quick search options, an option to resume interrupted transfers in the Mi Mover app without starting over, optimised browser kernel and sound recording options for the screen recorder app. The update also brings changes in the Gallery app which include Add photos to favorites and Optimize local storage to free up space. To install the latest update on your Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, head over to Settings>About Phone and here tap on System Updates. If there is an update available, you can start installing the update by following the on-screen instructions.

Since then, people have become even more concerned about their privacy and their data shared on different social media platforms. After Facebook, its time to tweak some setting on Facebook-owned Instagram to improve your privacy.

Here are a few settings you can change in order to make sure that your privacy is maintained and your data is safe.

Switch to Private

First and foremost thing to do on Instagram is switching your account from Public to Private. By default, an account is set to Public which shares all your posts with the whole world. If you want to limit that to only the followers you have, you can switch your account to Private and here's how.

  • Open up the Instagram application
  • Head over to your Profile by tapping on the Profile icon located at the bottom-right corner
  • Tap on three dots on the top-right corner

  • Scroll down to find "Private Account" and turn that on

Remove or Block followers

When your account was public, many people might have just followed you whom you never wanted. So now you got a chance to remove them from your Followers list.

  • Head over to the Profile tab on your Instagram app
  • Tap on Followers. Here you will see a list of people who follow you.
  • Find a person you want to remove and tap on three dots next to his username
  • Here tap on Remove

In case you are still maintaining a public profile, you cannot remove your followers. So, you can head over and block them in a few simple steps.

  • Open the person's profile you want to block
  • Tap on the three-dots on the top right corner

  • To confirm, hit "Yes, I'm Sure"

Don't let Instagram suggest your profile to others

You might have noticed that Instagram gives you suggestions to follow some people. This means that other people might get your profile on their suggestions list. However, you can stop this from happening by performing a quick set of actions.

  • Open up your Browser (Yes, you cannot do this from the app)
  • Log in to your account
  • Tap on the profile icon in the top right corner
  • Click on Edit Profile

Instagram Privacy

  • Scroll down to find "Similar Account Suggestions" and uncheck that.

Reliance Jio offers existing Prime members an additional free year of subscription

Reliance Jio in a good news for its Prime users with subscription till at least March 31. The company will be extending the membership of these users for free for the next 12 months. Jio Prime members are able to avail additional services provided by the company like - access to all of the Jio applications along with the benefit of extra data per recharge.

To be able to avail these free additional 12 months from the company, users will have to download and open up the 'MyJio' application from their application stores and then “express their interest”. After this, the users will get the complimentary membership. One point to note, new Reliance Jio users joining after March 31 will be required to pay the Rs. 99 fees for getting the membership.

Reliance Jio recently in a bold move, started giving its prime members purchasing the Nokia 1 a slew of benefits. These benefits include an instant cashback of Rs. 2,200 alongside 60GB of additional 4G data after the device has been activated via the company's SIM card. To get these benefits the users will have to perform a recharge of Rs. 198 or Rs. 299. However, this offer has a huge catch to it, the cashback will be credited in the form of 44 vouchers worth Rs. 50 each int the users MyJio app, which they can then use to recharge their numbers. The popular mid-range G-family by Moto is getting a refresh and will be introduced as Moto G6, G6 Plus and G6 Play. How to read WhatsApp messages without the sender knowing about it

WhatsApp, a few months ago, introduced a feature called Read Receipts. The new feature allowed users to know whether the messages have been read or not. However, the feature was not received with much love. Since then there have been many queries by users whether they can read messages without the other person knowing or not.

Here are two simple ways to read messages without the other person knowing about it

Turn off Read Receipts

  • Open up WhatsApp
  • Tap on the three-dots on the top right corner
  • Click on Settings
  • Head over to Account>Privacy
  • Scroll down and uncheck the Read Receipts

Voila! Now the blue ticks are gone. However, there are a few limitations when you turn off Read Receipts. After turning off Read Receipts, you will not get blue ticks even on your sent messages. So, here is another simple trick for which you will not need to turn off Read Receipts.

WhatsApp needs an active internet connection in order to send or receive the read receipts. So, you can simply head over to your smartphone setting and turn off Wi-Fi and Mobile Data. Once done, you can fire up the WhatsApp application and read the messages you wanted to read.

Turning off Wi-Fi or Mobile Data might not be the perfect solution for everyone. However, currently, these are the only two safe ways to get rid of the Read receipts. OnePlus 6 is just around the corner and just like most smartphones, we have leaks and rumours to tell us how the smartphone will look like. As per the leaks and rumours, the OnePlus 6 is expected to sport a notch up front. The Verge confirmed this in a recent report where they shared an image of the upcoming smartphone.

The Verge interacted with Carl Pei, Co-Founder of OnePlus who said “It’s a very clear decision: more real estate for the user. Learn to love the notch,” when he was asked why is the notch important. HMD Global to launch the Nokia 8 Sirocco alongside a few other phones in India next week

HMD Global is gearing up to launch some new Nokia smartphones in India. The Finish company has already rolled out the media invites for the launch event. The company is expected to launch the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 6 (2018) in the country. Nokia might also bring the Nokia 8110 4G ‘Banana Phone’ to India. All these smartphones were unveiled at the MWC 2018 event.

HMD Global's media invites read “We welcome you to Explore. Express. Create. Reimagine”. “We welcome you to discover the N-powered city of tomorrow,” it further says. As per the invite, the event is set for Wednesday, April 4 and will be held in New Delhi.
