Google Lens feature now available on all Android smartphones: Here's how to use it

One of the greatest features introduced by Google recently was the Google Lens. The Google Lens is a visual search service by Google that uses AI and machine learning to recognise the objects and surroundings. Initially, the feature was only available on Google's Pixel smartphones. The feature has now finally made its way to other Android devices within the Google Photos application.

Google made the announcement via Google Photos official twitter handle. The announcement claims that the feature is currently restricted to Android users only while iOS users will get the feature soon. Google Pixel owners can enjoy the Google Lens feature in the Google Photos app as well as the Google Assistant app. Whereas other Android users can only use the feature via the Google Photos application.

Google has already started rolling out the update and your device might receive the update anytime soon. We did not receive any app update. However, when I fired up the Google Photos app today on my Samsung Galaxy S8, I could see that the Google Lens feature has arrived. Further, when I tapped on the little icon I was given an introduction as to what the feature does.

To test out the new feature, I loaded up the image I took recently at a restaurant. The image shows something called the Fried Ice-Cream. However, Google Lens failed to recognise it and called to be Falafel or Hushpuppy. Then I looked up to what the application is capable of and clicked another picture. This time I clicked a picture of a novel and Google Lens showed its talent by giving me some key information on what the novel is about. Here are the screenshots of my time with the Google Lens feature.

Samsung's flagship smartphones also use a similar feature called Bixby Vision. Bixby Vision works well when pointed towards a bottle of wine. The application gives the key information one needs while drinking a particular wine.
