Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge finally gets Android 8.0 Oreo: Here's how to install

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, company's two-year-old smartphones are finally receiving the Android Oreo update. The Android Oreo update is the second major update for the device, first being the Android Nougat update.

Android 8.0 Oreo for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge brings all the Oreo features which included Picture-in-picture mode, Smart Selection, Autofill and much more. Alongside the Oreo features, Samsung has also updated its UI and has added features like Dual messengers where users can use two WhatsApp accounts in one smartphone.

The OTA update rollout has begun and should hit your Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge anytime soon. The update will weigh in at around 1.2GB.

How to download and install Android Oreo

  • Tap on the Software Update notification (if any)
  • To manually check for updates, head over to Settings>Software Updates and then tap on Download Updates manually
  • Now hit Download in order to start downloading the OTA update files
  • Once downloaded, Tap on Install now

You Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge will now reboot and complete the installation process. If you have not received any update yet, you might need to wait for a few days until the update reaches everyone.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are powered by the Exynos 8890 Octa-core chipset. The S7 features a 5.1-inch display while the S7 Edge sports a larger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display. Both the smartphones pack in 4GB of RAM and 32GB, 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is currently priced at around Rs. 27,999 while the Galaxy S7 Edge retails for Rs. 36,799.
