LG India has launched a new budget smartphone, LG Candy in India. It is priced at Rs. 6,699 and will be made available starting September 1 in both online and offline markets. The USP of the device is its interchangeable backplate which helps the users customise the device as they want. The device is available in Blue, Silver, and Gold colour options, which the users can change even after purchasing the device thanks to the interchangeable back plates. Key features of the device include IP68 dust and water resistance rating, MIL-STD 810G certification, and facial recognition features.

Specifications:

LG Candy sports a 5-inch HD+ display with huge bezels on all four sides and a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The device features a separate microSD card slot which supports up to 32GB. It runs Google's Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system. All of this is backed by a 2,500mAh battery, which for the price seems decent enough.

In Europe, the HTC U12 Life is available at a price tag of EUR 349 (roughly Rs. 28,900).

Xiaomi India is now getting serious about the Indian market since it overtook Samsung to become the leading smartphone brand in the country. The company is now working on its own UPI-based payment service platform which is said to be called Mi-Pay. It will be a digital payment service and will work quite similar to Google Tez (now Google Pay).

As per a recent report by Hindu Business, Xiaomi is currently waiting for an approval from Reserve Bank of India as it is important before any company starts a payment service. The report further claims that Xiaomi has also started conducting trials for its Mi-Pay payments service. The company has also tied up with leading private lenders in India for their upcoming application.

However, Xiaomi Mi-Pay is not a whole new concept. The company introduced the application in their home country, China back in 2016. In China, the app is available for debt and credit card holders of select Chinese banks. Unlike China, India will get another version of the Mi-Pay app which will use UPI in order to make a transaction.

In other news, Google recently rebranded Google Tez as Google Pay in India. With the new Google Pay app, users can make payments across 15,000 retail stores in the country. Xiaomi sub-brand Poco recently unveiled the Poco F1 in India and it soon grabbed a lot of attention as it comes with flagship grade specifications at a price of a budget smartphone. The smartphone went on a flash sale for the first time on August 29 via Flipkart and Mi.com. Interestingly, the sale ended in around 5mins and in under 5mins Xiaomi managed to sell over 1 lakh units of the same.
