Xiaomi Mi Band 2 In-Depth Review

Xiaomi launched another fitness tracker the Mi band 2 few months ago. It was an improvement to their Mi Band 1s with a added display and a rather more appealing design. The Mi band 1s was great but it was missing a crucial feature, the display. In addition to checking our steps, calories burned and heart rate directly from the band it added the functionality of serving as a caller id and notification center.

Design

Mi Band 2 Band

The Mi band 2 like its predecessors is composes of the same two components, the band and the capsule. First of all the Band has got a rubber finish and feels really good in hand. On prolonged usage one doesn't feel uncomfortable wearing it.  It is available in many colors including Black, Red and Cyan.

The capsule like the earlier Mi bands has a cylindrical design. It has almost the same aesthetic like the Mi Band 1 and 1s. With glass and a display on the front it the Mi band 2 certainly looks better than its predecessors. Mi Band 2 has a big circular button that lets you check the time, steps taken and various other things. The display is bright enough to  view inside a room however we had little problems using in bright sunlight. The bottom on the Mi Band 2 has a proximity and a heart rate sensor. The heart rate sensor is bulged out a little bit and as a result leaves a mark on the skin when wearing it too tight. You cannot get a accurate reading unless the sensor is pressed snugly to your skin. Consequently it leaves a mark on prolonged usage.

Features

The Mi Band 2 easily pairs up with your device using Bluetooth 4.0. You can view your steps walked, heart rate and various other things via the display on the band or using the Mi Fit app. The Mi fit app is available on iOS as well as as Android. You can set your daily goals, alarms and much more using the app. In addition to step tracking the Mi Band 2 can also track sleep in a very efficient way. With a combination of proximity sensor, heart rate sensor and movement tracking, it provides almost accurate sleep duration. Apart from the regular fitness tracking it also serves as a beeper for your social media notifications.

Performance

For the duration of this review, we compared the data from the Mi Band 2 with the inbuilt step tracker on the iPhone 5s. On a average Mi Band 2 shows around 100-200 steps more than what is recorded via the iPhone's inbuilt sensor. This include times when our phone is left on the table and we still are wearing the band. The deviation is very less compared to what is seen on the other bands.

The sleep tracking works like a charm. The sleep duration times were almost accurate with a variation of 10-15 minutes. The heart rate sensor and sleep tracking are few of the less needed options. With today's evolving times it seems like these features are coming more and more in use. For those who are interested, they work as good as they are advertised.

Mi Band 2

One of the most noteworthy things in the Mi Band 2 is the ability to act as a social beeper. If you want a band to alert you for notifications you receive in your phone then Mi band 2 is just the thing for you. Notification of text messages, calls and other app notifications like instagram is well implemented by a vibration on the band and a display of the app sending notification on the band's display. You can also set alarms and inactivity notifications also. Silent alarms are just great. When you don't want everyone in the house to wake up as a result of your loud alarm, then silent alarms are your thing. The Mi Band 2 can also notify when you are inactive for a specific amount of time set manually through the app.

The Mi Band 2's battery life is exceptional. Even after 6 days of usage the battery dropped only 20 percent.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is a reliable activity tracker with a heart rate sensor. Available for ₹1,999 its is definitely worth the price. The only problem is the charger. It's a unique proprietary charger and hence will create a lot of fuss if it gets misplaced. If you need a a good and cheap activity tracker we would definitely recommend the Mi Band 2.

Brainwavz M3: Extensive review

Brainwavz M3: Premium Noise Cancelling Earphones on A Budget

Right off the bat, I will say buying the Brainwavz M3, you are basically going for a quality studio earphones. The sound is loud and just plain brilliant, at no levels did I experienced any breaking of sound or stuttering, the clarity is beyond perfect and nothing like what you expect from an earphone, but nothing in this word is perfect, similar is the case of the Brainwavz M3.

Brainwavz M3

Overview

Brainwavz has focused on producing a pair of perfect studio earphones where they have done a brilliant job. The Brainwavz M3 has exceptional balance across the lows, mids, and highs. Which provide spot on acoustical reproduction, crisp and clear vocals. But, and a very significant but is that these earphones lack in the Raw bass department. If there is a real drop or base in the song that you are enjoying, you will be impressed throughout the song but the lack of bass just make you feel robbed of the ability or the quality of a song.

Note, I am absolutely not saying this is the earphone’s fault but they work so flawlessly throughout the song handling lows, mids, and highs like a glove. Expectation rises to a new level when you are listening through the Brainwavz M3, and the expectation should be high when you are paying a premium price for a set of premium earphones.

Brainwavz M3

But never have I ever heard any studio headphone/earphones that really do justice to the bass of any soundtrack. If you focus on bass characteristics of any sound you really have to compromise on the sound front. If they would have focused on the bass too much the resultant would be average sounding earphones. All in all the bass is well – weighted and full – bodied, and remains under control and never takes over other features.

Build

The build quality is excellent and the shape is helpful in making the earphone to be placed just right in your ear canal. Nor is it loosely swinging, nor is it hurting the ears, long usage is comfortable overall. You get 3 regular pairs of silicone ear tips. A pair of Bi - Flange silicone ear tips (irritating after a while) and also you get 1 pair of Comply Foam tips. These foam tips are the best attachment for your earphones, which makes the experience just satisfying.

Brainwavz M3

Sound

Earphones are powered by dynamic 10.7 mm drivers, which have impedance rated at 20 ohms. Frequency ranges from 20Hz - 20kHz. The sensitivity is 115dB at 1mW, with the rated input power of 10mW. All of these technical features add to give great sound output. The sound is flat, in a good way as no one features tries to overshadow others. Everything works like a well-synchronized system.

PROS

  • Great lows, mids, and highs
  • Loud sound with no breaking
  • Anti - tangle cable
  • Fantastic noise cancellation

CONS

  • Bass is on the lower side of my liking
  • No hands-free feature
  • Build quality and finishing could have been a tad better

Verdict

The sound is loud and just plain brilliant, at no levels did I experienced any breaking of sound or stuttering, the clarity is beyond perfect and nothing like what you expect from an earphone, but nothing in this word is perfect, similar is the case of the Brainwavz M3. But if you love listening to music and want the perfect earphones these are for you.

Honor 6X In-Depth Review

Huawei sub brand Honor is going to launch the Honor 6X in India on the 26th of January. And, here we have the full In-Depth review for you, so that you can decide if you should buy it or just let it be.

Honor 6X

Honor 6X

The Honor 6X will receive a lot of good press as Honor has given away a lot of swag including free exotic trips, The 6X, etc. to the media so that they receive very good reviews but to be honest it is just a one gimmick smartphone which is its dual camera.there are two versions of the 6X: one with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, and one with 32GB and 3GB. And here we have the full review of the smartphone for you and this will help you make the decision if the Honor 6X is worth your hard earned money or not.

Design

The Honor 6X is not much on the looks, we feel they should have given a full aluminium body. Though the weight and size of the smartphone is easily manageable. 4 colors are offered which are metallic grey, silver, blue, and gold namely.

honor 6X

The Honor 6X has a 5.5" screen upfront, a 3.5mm headphone jack on top, power key and volume rocker on the right, also on top you will find the dual hybrid SIM tray, on the back you find the dual camera setup with the fingerprint sensor, and on the bottom you find the speaker grill, microphone and the micro-usb port.

The bezel is a lot on the phone and to be frank could be lower, though the speakers are bottom firing they are terrible and crack when you hear at loud volumes.

Camera

Camera is the only high point of the Honor 6X, both the front and back cameras are great. The front camera is an 8MP shooter with beautification feature. The primary camera is a 12MP and a 2MP dual camera setup where the 2MP is a black and white camera. Also with a dual camera you can adjust the depth of feel.

Dual Camera phones have become a force of nature these days as each and every phone is coming out with these. And, this is one of the better ones, as Huawei has been one of the better dual camera smartphone manufacturer and they are bringing this technology here also.

Honor 6X

Software

The Honor 6X is a good phone with great battery, but the Emotion UI or the EMUI 4.1 is as bad as it could ever be, with bad software design and loads of bloatware. Simply i cannot stand the Honor skin and have to change it as soon as possible with the google launcher. Moreover the 6X doesn't ship with pre-loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat which is a big disappointment. But, they have promised an update through OTA in the coming months.

Battery

Honor 6X comes with a 3340mAh battery which performs really good, and lives up to the Honor brand name. 6X is one of the better smartphones for battery, as it is very well optimized and gives 1 full day of heavy usage which is very impressive.

The Honor 6X with a battery life of 1 day on heavy usage, and charges really fast with fast charging available on the phone. Though the charger included is said to be a fast charger but is not one, and we would suggest you get a proper one from some other brand to actually use the fast charging capabilities of the phone.

Pricing

Honor 6X price

The Honor 6X 3GB RAM/ 32GB Storage priced at ₹12,999 and the Honor 6X 4GB RAM/ 64GB Storage priced at ₹15,999 in India will be available through flash sales available from 2nd Feb, 2017.

Pros

  • Great Camera Setup
  • Good Battery Life
  • Great Price

Cons

  • Very Disappointing Display
  • No Android 7.0 out of the box
  • Really Bad Skin
  • Not full metal body

Verdict

Honor has created a good smartphone at a low price point. But, we feel that they could have provided more in the price point. And you will see good reviews of the Honor 6X due to them taking the press to exotic destinations and giving out free swag like phones, etc. but to tell you the truth the phone is nothing in comparison to other options available in the market, and you can buy a much better smartphone at this price. The Honor 6X is just a one gimmick phone which is its dual camera.

Evidson AudioWear R5 the earphones to get under 1k

Evidson AudioWear R5 - Top Tier Earphones on a Budget

The Evidson audiowear R5 are a pair of genuinely good looking in-ear style earphones that sound great and fit in the budget segment. The Evidson Audiowear R5 are competing with sennheiser and other well known brands. And for what it's worth we feel that the Indian made earphones are winning the fight against its international competitors.

Evidson R5

Design

The Evidson AudioWear R5 looks very well built with the flat cable, metal body, and nicely designed in-line controls. The earphones while being used do not get in the way and also makes you look good.

The earphones are really small in size and can be rolled up and put away to the side while not taking up too much space which we feel is a good thing. The flat cable that is being utilized in these make the earphones look good and also makes them tangle free which is a god's blessing. The long cable helps you move around freely while the earphones are being used.

Evidson R5 in-line controls

The R5 also has in-line microphone and controls, which is designed very nicely and feels premium. Though while using the microphone it does pick up a bit of the background noise. The controls though feel premium to use and get the job done as directed.

Review

The Evidson Audiowear R5 is an addition to the sub 1k market of earphones which sells the most in India due to being affordable to all. And what gives Evidson a slight advantage is that the company is based in India and makes all of their products in house.

The Evidson Audiowear R5 is a good looking pair of headphones, And it also has great performance. The earphones deliver crisp and clear sound, as with these you can tell the difference between highs, mids and lows very clearly. The R5 held their own when different kinds of music with different volumes were played and they fared quite well as to our surprise.

While the bass was there and good enough for an avid listener we were left desiring for more, and so will other bass heads also. We tested it with multiple people in our office and 2 out of 5 people wanted more of a thump while listening to music. So to summarize the earphones delivered a pleasurable experience.

Pros

  • Great Build Quality
  • Budget Earphones
  • In-Ear
  • Great Built-in Controls
  • Amazing Sound Quality

Cons

  • Bass leaves us desiring for more
  • After a few hours of listening they become uncomfortable

Verdict

The Evidson Audiowear R5 has very impressive looks and these kinds of looks are not easy to find in the Under 1k budget line. But leaving the looks aside they sound great, the bass left us wanting more out of these maybe the next versions will have much more punch packing in them.

Great Performance, comfortable fit and a robust build what else do you want from the Evidson Audiowear R5.

Area learning tells the smartphone its location. Depth perception lets the device analyze the shape of the world around it by detecting surfaces and obstacles. And now for the first time ever, your smartphone can visualize and understand its surrounding objects and environment via sensors that capture more than 250,000 measurements a second.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro Camera

Premium Smartphone Design

While Tango makes the PHAB2 Pro unique, the device stands on its own as a premium smartphone. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor and comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage expandable up to 128GB. The Snapdragon 652 processor brings efficient hardware integration and processing, leading 4G LTE connectivity, and cutting-edge time stamping and camera and sensor processing capabilities.  Demanding computer vision processing is performed by a single, integrated and highly efficient Snapdragon processor with a tightly integrated suite of key modules including a DSP, ISP and integrated sensor hub. The Snapdragon heterogeneous computing platform is optimally balanced for a Tango workload and is designed for all-day use. The processor also quickly processes and time stamps all the rich sensor data simultaneously received from multiple camera sensors, gyro and accelerometer, resulting in a fast, smooth augmented reality experience, where 3D AR graphic overlays track more naturally to the physical surroundings.

Lenovo Phab2 Pro

The PHAB2 Pro features Dolby Audio Capture 5.1 with Dolby Atmos playback capabilities to help capture life’s moments on video with great quality audio. Motorola Moto Z2

Motorola Moto Z2 Leaks

Motorola in some time will be launching the Moto Z 2nd Generation AKA the Moto Z2 in the market and we surely saw one with a reviewer read to know more.

Moto Z 2

You would ask how do we know? well to be truly honest with you we were at an event and saw the smartphone with a person who was clicking images with the smartphone. When we enquired about the smartphone the person was a bit adamant, but with our consistent poking he gave in.

Here is what all we got to know about the smartphone that is the Moto Z2.

Though the phone was in a completely black case which was screwed together shut the design is similar to the Moto Z that is currently selling in the market.

All we know about the Moto Z2

The Motorola Moto Z2 consists of a dual camera setup in similar housing as found on the Moto Z. The dual camera setup includes 2 cameras which have a resolution of 23MP X 23MP. Which we think gives great results in the images, we were able to view the images that the person was taking at the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 event in delhi.

The Moto Z2 comes pre-installed with Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box as we could see.

moto z2

Though we couldn't Find out the capacity of the phone, RAM, battery as the person was in a hurry.

The phone was covered with a rugged black case so as to no one could see, with a slot cut out with a silver plate with some numbers written on it.

Now we see every manufacturer trying to make a dual camera phone. Let's hope Motorola gets it right with the Moto Z2.

To be truly honest we thought that the Moto Z was completely a one off thing. But we guess Motorola wants to continue to build the Modular phone lineup. Though the dual camera is awesome. I surely do wonder what will it do to the separate Hasselblad Mod that came out with the first Moto Z.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Review

Xiaomi ruled the budget smartphone space in the country which is also the highest selling device in India, the Redmi Note 3. But technology is fast changing and it has changed for better. As on January 19th,2017 there is a new successor in town as Xiaomi has launched The new note, Redmi Note 4.

Redmi Note 4

Detailed Review

redmi note 4

Last Redmi Note was such a hit that the company announced that they have earned $3Billion from India. So the new device had to fill quite gigantic shoes, but they simply could strike another home run like the Redmi Note 3.
Xiaomi is still it's own worst nightmare, You can launch a phone every six months, but how do you truly “upgrade” your older models. You’re not just competing against your competitors, but also yourself. Yet, not taking anything away the Note 4 is a very solid device.

Build and Design

There is not a significant amount of change when we look at the design space. The blueprint is mainly the same to that of the Note 3 but the Note 4 has slight curves on the back, similar to Mi5. These curves help the Note 4 to give its own look and feel as well. The Note 4 is slightly taller and wider than Note 3.

Redmi Note 4

The metal is much sturdier than before and feel better in hand and makes the feel of the device more premium, and the front, of course, has a 2.5D Glass making the display look just a tad bit better than the predecessor.
Overall Xiaomi hasn't put much into the Design part of the device but you will be able to tell apart two devices if kept together.

Display

The Note 4 inherits the excellent FDH display panel from the Note 3. Colors are striking and vivid but like the Note 3, the display is dim and the Auto - brightness gets very easily confused with the surroundings. Sunlight visibility is substandard, the phone often misconstrues ambient light, being too bright, when in dark or too dim, when outside.
All in all, you are better off handling it manually.
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus Performance
Overall, we get a vibrant display with more warmer feel, reasonably wide color gamut and a display with great touch which feels quite prime.

Performance

This is where most change has arrived for the Note 4, Xiaomi shifted from a powerful Snapdragon 650 processor to the brand new more efficient Snapdragon 625 processor, which is the first processor with the 14nm LPP FinFET technology, which is 20% more power efficient than the Snapdragon 650. The company did the same to increase the battery life of the Note 4, but that is where the issue exists, the battery of the Note 3 was already excellent and only a 20% increase in battery with the sacrifice of raw power from the Snapdragon 650 seems unnecessary.
Redmi Note 4 performance
But on its own, the Redmi Note 4 is decently fast and snappy there was very little stutter when heavy gaming, which isn't particularly detrimental to gameplay, but it is not ideal either. We won't be complaining about it this much if Xiaomi wouldn't have set such high target for their successor to achieve.

Camera

The one department where Redmi Note 3 failed to impress and was highly criticized was its camera department, this year the company has mainly focused on the camera for the Note 4, which is sure an improvement on the redmi Note 3 but it yet lags against other products namely the Honor 6X or the Coolpad Cool 1 both of which have a dual - camera setup on the back of respective devices. Better yet the Redmi Note 4 does more than a decent job in well-lit situations but lacks in low light conditions and struggles to focus on close by objects because of lack of laser auto focus.
Redmi Note 4 Camera
Redmi Note 4 comes equipped with a 13MP camera on the back, with f/2.0 aperture and 4mm focal length. The colors are warmer, even sharper and have more detail than before.
Redmi Note 4 Camera

Battery

Note 4 has a slightly bigger 4100 mAh lithium - ion polymer battery than the Note 3's 4050 mAh battery, and also the Snapdragon 625 processor helps to increase the battery backup by 20-25%.
The battery on the device can easily last a full day without breaking a sweat. You get around 5 hours longer battery life than the Redmi Note 3.
The phone does indeed support fast charging which is great but does not have a Type - C charging port.

Bottomline

The Redmi Note 4 has a snappy processor, lots of RAM, improved camera and a beautiful display and does the work for every kind of user in the market. However, it does not set the market on fire or set new standards for other companies in under 15k price smartphone market. But the device does not disappoint in any way, and the new Matte Black colour looks absolutely dream to look at.
Lenovo Phab 2 Plus Camera

PROS

Vibrant Display
Long Battery Life
2.5 D Glass
Pricing
New color offering (Matte Black)

CONS

Camera isn't at par with competition

Design is not altered much

Verdict

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is an all - rounder offering for everyone, improving in every way. But that also means it is not reforming the spectrum. Xiaomi has got the pricing right again.
If a camera is what you look for on your device, shell out a bit more cash and go for the Coolpad Cool 1.

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus In-Depth Review

The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus Review

In recent years the smartphone market has become crowded with 5 and 5.5 inch offerings. But, Companies like Xiaomi, Lenovo and other smartphone manufacturers have found another small share of market which prefers phablets rather than normal smartphones.

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus

The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus is rocking an all metal body with a 6.4 inch 2.5D Gorilla Glass. The device gives a premium look and has all the features that a person would need, even has a dual camera. The phablet market became more prominent when the Samsung debacle started to happen Lenovo saw the market of people looking to use a phablet after the loss of the note and came out with the Phab 2 Plus. Lenovo has put out the phab 2 plus in the market now let's find out is it worth buying.

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus

Design

The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus comes with a all metal body and 2.5D Curved Gorilla Glass touch screen. Getting into the design the phone looks stunning for the price that it is offered for. Though the Phab 2 Plus being a little big for some people's liking, it does definitely appeal to the phablet using niche market, and with the samsung note debacle it is a great offering for those people.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus has a 6.4 inch FHD display, it still uses micro-usb for charging instead of the usb type c, and also has the 3.5mm headphone jack all of these didn't bother or interest us. What gained our eyes was the dual camera in a smartphone which costs only Rs.15,000. The 13MP dual camera is supported with a dual tone flash and laser auto focus which is great. Rest the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus has an 8MP front camera with flash, bothe the cameras record in 1080p. It also sports a fingerprint sensor on the back.

The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus has great design, and looks like Lenovo has put a lot of thought into it.

Battery

The battery of the Lenovo Phab 2 Plus was meant to be good as having such a huge body makes space for a big battery.

Lenovo Phab 2 Plus battery

Trust us, we pushed the battery beyond its limits for testing purposes and got phenomenal results. The battery easily lasted for the day even with heavy usage and gaming. And, it was also a blast using this device as even if you were running out of charge you could easily go and plug the device and get 100% charge in 2-3 hours on the stock charger.

So, basically the battery is unparalleled in the phablet range device market. So if you are the type of the person who runs out of phone battery too soon while entertaining yourself this phone is for you.

Camera

The Lenovo Phab 2 comes with a 13MP Dual Primary Camera with dual tone flash and a laser autofocus, it also has an 8MP secondary shooter with front flash. After trying out the camera we found out that Lenovo has invested a lot into their camera technologies as all the shots were amazing and even the low light shots turned out amazing.

The Lenovo Phab 2 comes with a dual camera which is amazing to have in such a cheap smartphone. The Phab 2 Plus was the cheapest smartphone with dual cameras that we were able to find from a reputable brand. Performance

The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus consists great performance capabilities, We had put the smartphone to heavy tests and the Phab 2 Plus did them with ease. The 3GB of RAM and the Mediatek MT8783 SoC keeps the device running very smoothly. The interface runs flawlessly, and apps and games load and run without any trouble. We tested game performance with multiple games and they ran smooth as a hot knife through butter.

The battery due to being so big we weren't worried about the phone running out of battery during the day. The battery gave us around 2 and a half days worth of usage on a single charge. The phone performed well overall there was no signal drops, the call quality was great, the dual camera setup was amazing, our only gripe with the phone was that it is a bit on the larger side that a few people might not like.

Final Verdict -

The Lenovo Phab 2 Plus is a solution to a problem that everyone in the market with a Samsung Note 7 was dealing with. The need of a phone and a tablet hybrid from a reputable and trustable company after what people with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 faced. Though being the saviour that it was trying to be it was a little bit late in coming to the market and other competitors had already put out similar products. That all being said this phone is a beast of a phone both on the software and hardware side and will let you do whatever you want with ease, so go ahead and buy it already you won't regret it.
