WhatsApp has recently introduced a much-awaited feature on its Beta application. The new feature allows users to record voice messages without forcing them to hold down the voice note key. The feature was first spotted on the Beta app and it is now making its way to the stable version as well.
The locked recordings feature was first seen on WhatsApp beta 2.18.70. It was also reported by WABetaInfo, who is a popular beta tester for WhatsApp. The update will soon be rolled out to all Android users. It will later make its way to the iOS devices.
How to use Locked Recordings on WhatsApp
- Make sure the WhatsApp application on your Android smartphone is updated
- Open WhatsApp
- Head over to a personal or a group chat
- Here, hold the voice note option for a split second
- Now, you will see an option for the slide to lock. Slide towards the lock icon to lock the recording
- After sliding to the lock icon, you can let go of your finger from the screen and just record the voice note handsfree
- If you like to cancel the voice note in the middle of the recording, you just simply tap Cancel in the middle
The new locked recordings feature does sound interesting but it does come with a set of limitations. When you lock a voice note recording, you will not be able to do anything in the app. You won't be able to view a photo or a video sent by your friend. You also cannot type in a message in the middle of the recording. Lastly, you can not even go to another chat while recording a voice note.

Meanwhile, as per a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is also working on bringing stickers feature to its app. The app will also allow you to see the size of the sticker pack before downloading it so that you can save on your data.
