Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Hands-on Review

Last year, Samsung launched one of the best smartphones the industry had ever seen, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. It was destined to become the best Android phone of 2016. But then something bad happened. It started exploding literally. The battery started to explode randomly which led to cancellation and total recall of the device.

After the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 dented the image of Samsung and the Note series completely. After a year and long series of works, Samsung launched the Note 8 which is bigger, better and safer. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with infinity display, dual camera with both lenses having optical image stabilization, enhanced S pen and totally waterproof design even when the S pen is out. All for ₹68,900.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 boasts the same design trend as the Samsung Galaxy S8 duo. Infinity display with almost no bezels immersing users in the display. A persistent Bixby button at the side. Fully glass front and back with metal frame. Whats different is a bigger 6.3-inch Quad HD+ super AMOLED display. Addition of an S pen at the bottom which is better than before. And a 12MP dual camera setup with a normal lens and a telephoto lens. Whats interesting is both of them have optical image stabilization.

S Pen

The S pen is something Note users are familiar with. This time around the S pen is bigger and better than before. Its sensitivity has increased. And the device has been made waterproof no matter the S pen is inside the phone or outside. A feature of animated messages has been included to send a personal touch when texts and emojis can't do the job. There is a feature of taking notes with the S Pen even when the screen is off. This can be pinned to the lock screen for easy access.

Camera

This is Samsungs first attempt at the dual camera setup and we have to say it is a great one. The dual camera setup at the back is one of its kind. It is a 12MP normal lens with a 12MP telephoto lens which can provide up to 2x optical zoom. It also enables users to take photos with the bokeh effect for highlighting what we love. Also, it has optical image stabilization in both of its lenses for perfect shots in an environment when the device is not stable.

Is Note 8 worth it?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is one of the best smartphones of its lineup and maybe 2017. With a big 3,300mAh battery and dual camera setup and its infinity display, there is nothing that can match it. It is an improvement to the great S8 with S pen and a dual camera setup at the back. In all for ₹67,900, it is a bit pricy but definitely worth its price.

Airtel VoLTE services launched in India, first place to get it is Mumbai

Airtel today announced that it will start providing its VoLTE (Voice Over LTE)services to its customers. The roll-out has started for Mumbai, and will provide the customers with the facility of making HD quality voice calls, the company also says that it will now have a much faster call set up time.

This has made Airtel become the second brand in India to provide VoLTE services after Reliance Jio which was launched during the previous year. To avail this service the users will have to have a phone which has 4G VoLTE enabled. The customers can call on any mobile or landline without getting charged extra for any of the additional data used to make the calls.

To make the transition seamless Airtel will switch the calls back to 2G/3G if and when there isn't any 4G network available. Interestingly, the company will allow users to continue with their data sessions at 4G speeds while the call is in progress.

“This is a significant milestone in Airtel’s network transformation journey under Project Leap. Airtel has built a world-class 4G network across India and with the VoLTE compatible device ecosystem beginning to mature, we believe it’s the right time to enable VoLTE calling as part of our service portfolio. Over the next few months, we will rapidly accelerate the deployment of VoLTE to cover all key geographies to bring HD quality calling to our customers. We keenly look forward to our device partners enabling Airtel VoLTE on their smartphones,”

said, Abhay Savargaonkar, Director – Networks, Bharti Airtel.

How to get Airtel VoLTE

  1. Check mobile device compatibility at www.airtel.in/volte. Airtel has tested and certified popular device models for VoLTE compatibility. More models will keep getting added to this list.
  2. Upgrade the mobile device’s operating software to the latest version that supports VoLTE. This update is provided by the handset manufacturer.
  3. Ensure the device has an Airtel 4G SIM. Customers can upgrade to the 4G SIM by visiting the nearest Airtel store.
  4. Enable VoLTE by following instructions on www.airtel.in/volte.

The company has informed us that to use VoLTE services in a dual SIM smartphone, the user will have to insert the SIM Card in his first slot and then mark the network mode as - 4G/3G/2G (Auto).

As for the compatibility list, Airtel VoLTE currently supports - iPhone SE / 6 / 6 plus / 6S / 6S plus / 7 / 7 plus, Samsung J700 / A800 / J2 Pro / J2 2016, Xiaomi Mi Max Prime / Redmi Note 4 / Mimax / Mi5, Gionee A1, Oppo F3 plus.

Ways To Promote Your Online T-shirt Store

These days, creating websites is quite easy. So is setting up an online t-shirt store. With so many different templates and features available online, you can set up your business in no time. Software solutions are Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, Wix, and many more offer features like hosting services and built-in features like domain finder and registrar, logo builder, and much more.

Once you decide on a shop name, build your store and get it running, you have to start thinking about promoting it too. Although many websites help you build your website, they don’t really help you with the promotion. And there are some specific ways you can promote your online t-shirt store.

Here, we list some steps that’ll help you promote your online t-shirt store and sell t-shirt online faster than brick-and-mortar stores.

The First Step: Identify Your Market

Every design has something to say, and says it to a particular group. You’ll need to identify this group; this is your customer base. Think about the designs you create, and what part of the community would wear those.

As the name suggests, you make a collection of images, text, and other things that link to a particular feeling or mood.

This will help you identify the kind of message your t-shirts deliver. This can also be used for future references, in case you need more designs and ideas. You can even make your mood board online, on websites like Pinterest.

Ask People

Learn what your friends and family members think about your t-shirt store, the message it conveys to the world, and what environment your products look their best in. A third person opinion could help you get a new perspective on your brand.

This is the most important thing when it comes to any business. And researching as to how to promote your online website might be one of the most important part.

And it applies here as well. If you know what kind of people like your brand, you can find where they hang out, to understand their personalities. For example, if it’s a cafe, what kind of cafe do they hang out in?

Step Three: Your Models

When it comes to apparel, models play a very important role. They portray the character that your t-shirt needs.

For example, if you sell tees with funky thoughts and abstract designs, your model must have a personality that can match your t-shirt. Someone with tattoos would be an extremely good match here.

Letting Your T-shirts Talk For Themselves

If you’re a boot-strapped startup, funding for models can be difficult to come by. In this case, you can allow your t-shirts do all the communication.

Step Fourth: Build The Brand

Get a logo you can use on your packages and other places. Use a brand voice to help your customers understand your brand message. Create a complete branding vision, and promote your brand on social media websites too, besides newsletters and email marketing.

Ways To Promote Your Online T-shirt Store
Use Discounts To Get Customers To Subscribe To E-mails

Use hashtags, facebook posts, and tweets to reach out to more people from your customer target audience. Even if these customers don’t make a purchase immediately, you can still get them to sign up for your newsletter and try to convert them later.

There are a lot more things you can do in this section to help get your brand recognition. Use discounts and sales (make sure to put up a banner on your website), have contests and prizes for the winners and even get a popular identity to promote your brand (like a youtuber or a critic).

Motorola might soon launch an Android One smartphone

Xiaomi recently hopped on the Android One band wagon and might have just revived the sinking ship which was last seen in India in 2014 when Micromax, Intex and Karbonn introduced new smartphones under the initiative. Now it turns out to be that Motorola might be the next smartphone manufacturer to introduce an Android One powered smartphone. This can be interpreted from a tweet made by the famous Twitter leakster Even Blass (@EvLeaks).

In a tweet which can be seen embedded below Evan Blass shared a render of an Android One powered Motorola smartphone. The phone looks extremely similar to the Moto X4 which was launched by the company at IFA 2017. As you can see in the image there is Android One branding on the bottom of the device similar to the Xiaomi A1. No further details were mentioned in the Twitter post made by the leakster. Previously, there also have been reports stating that the new Android One smartphone from Motorola is made especially for the United States, and might not launch in any other country.

It was also reported in January that Google was working closely with various smartphone manufacturers to launch the Android One platform in the United States. The company is also currently being reported to buy HTC's mobile division which would make an excellent starting point for the Android One platform in the United States considering the fact that HTC was the company who made the first Nexus smartphone and it is also the company who has made the Pixel smartphone.

Various publications have claimed that similar to what Xiaomi has done by rebranding the Mi 5X as the Mi A1 will be done by Motorola. It is expected that the company will bring the Moto X4 as its Android One smartphone in the United States for $399 and leave its own version with its custom Android operating system out of the states.

Kult Beyond In-Depth Review: A new smartphone from a new company

Kult recently launched the Kult Beyond in India which is exclusively available via Amazon India. The phone became the best seller on the e-commerce website as soon as it went on sale. The highlights of the smartphone are the presence of a fingerprint scanner at this price and the 13-megapixel camera sensors with dual tone LED flash at the rear as well as the front. The Kult Beyond comes with a price tag of Rs. 6,999 and here is our full review on the smartphone.

Kult Beyond 4
Kult Beyond

Specifications

The Kult Beyond comes with some really impressive specifications considering its price point. The smartphone features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution 720x1280 pixels and a pixel density of 320dpi. The phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6735 SoC which is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.25GHz. Graphics on the smartphone are powered by Mali-T720 GPU. The Beyond comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage which is further expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. The phone features three slots, two for micro Sim cards and one dedicated slot for a microSD card. Under the hood, there is a 3,000mAh battery powering up the internals. The Kult Beyond runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.

Kult Beyond 2

On the optics front, the phone sports a 13-megapixel camera sensor at the back with a dual tone LED flash. Up front, the smartphone comes with a 13-megapixel front-facing camera with a dual tone selfie flash.

Design

Kult has done a pretty great job when it comes to the design of the Beyond. The 2.5D curved screen on the front looks amazing. The placement of the camera sensors and the LED flash are also great. The removable back panel of the Kult Beyond is made out of metal which gives a premium feel when held in hand. It feels like Kult did not make any compromises with the design of the smartphone. Also, it is worth mentioning that the Beyond is available only in Black colour which looks fantastic with the design of the smartphone.

Kult Beyond 3

Software

The software on the Kult Beyond is very similar to stock Android with few tweaks and features added by the company. The bloatware on the smartphone was minimal and most of it was easily removable. The software also included some features for the fingerprint scanner which was really useful for single-handed usage. Some of the fingerprint functions include launch an app, take pictures, answer calls and much more.

Performance

The performance of the Kult Beyond was very similar to any sub Rs. 7000 smartphone in the market. It was able to handle most of the common applications like YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook and much more. The phone did stutter while playing some heavy games which is quite obvious considering the price of the smartphone. However, the Beyond was easily able to play some games like Subway Surfers and Temple Run.

Battery

The battery life delivered by the 3,000mAh battery on the Kult beyond was quite impressive. The phone was easily able to last a full working day with medium to heavy usage. However, with minimal use, the phone was easily able to last up to two working days. During normal use, the phone's temperatures were fine but while throwing some heavy tasks at it, the phone did tend to get a bit warm.

Camera

Kult Beyond comes with 13-megapixel camera sensors at the front and the rear. The image quality delivered from the rear camera of the smartphone is pretty decent for the price the consumer pays. The dual tone LED flash is really bright and effective while taking images under low lighting conditions. The front-facing camera on the Beyond is also a 13-megapixel camera and the shots taken under outdoor lighting conditions came out really well.

Verdict

Kult Beyond 1

The Kult Beyond shows off a great design and has a good amount of specifications for the price a consumer pays. The smartphone is also made in India which does help in bringing down the price of the smartphone. Surprisingly for Rs. 6,999 the phone includes a metal back and a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint sensor on the smartphone is fast and reliable. During our intensive review of the device, we noticed that the phone took a bit longer to unlock with the fingerprint when the screen is turned off. However, the scanning was fast enough when the screen was turned on first. To sum it up, this smartphone makes a lucrative deal for the price and those looking for a smartphone under Rs. 7,000 are highly suggested to look for this one. The impressive part is that the company managed to deliver 32GB of storage and 3GB of RAM under the Rs. 7000 price bracket. Kult is a new company which might be a deal breaker for some of the people but the company has managed to build up more than 750 service centres in India till date.

Airtel to be the second telecom industry in India to introduce VoLTE

Reliance Jio since its entrance in the market has changed the way telecom industries functioned in India. Jio Telecom brought a revolutionary change in the market by introducing cheap 4G data offers and 4G VoLTE services. As Jio took over the market, other companies are trying their best to keep their customers if not getting new ones. Airtel has been working on introducing VoLTE to its users for a long time now. The company is now set to launch the VoLTE services starting from Mumbai. With the introduction of VoLTE, Airtel will provide free VoLTE calls for its customers. This will make Airtel the second network to introduce VoLTE in India after Jio.

It has been reported by Economic Times that Airtel will start rolling out the VoLTE services in Mumbai and later will introduce in Delhi and Kolkata. The business news paper also reported that customers in Mumbai and Kolkata will receive messages to activate VoLTE calls on their phones.

What is VoLTE?

VoLTE is a short form for Voice over LTE which clearly means the calls made from this type of network will connect via the 4G or LTE services. Before the introduction of VoLTE, mobile networks used 3G or 4G for data and 2G connection for making calls. The new VoLTE service gives much better and clearer call experience when compared to the calls made via 2G networks.

VoLTE uses special hardware which may not be present in many of the old phones. However, most of the smartphones launched after the introduction of Jio support 4G VoLTE. There are also few feature phones which support the VoLTE services for making good quality phone calls.

Jio recently launched the Jio feature phone which comes at a cost of Rs. 1500 that is refundable after 3years. To concur this Airtel is also planning to introduce its own VoLTE feature phone which will support free VoLTE calls.
