Apple with participation in this roundtable will help people have better digital lives as it will be publicly pressuring the industry into taking user privacy more seriously.
Apple after a 28-year gap is finally going to showcase its products at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The last time Apple participated in CES was back in 1992 in Chicago, where then CEO, John Sculley launched the Newton devices.
According to a new report by Digitaltrends, the company's senior director of global privacy, Jane Horvath will appear on a panel called the Chief Privacy Officer Roundtable on January 9. The roundtable will also include executives from Facebook, Proctor & Gamble and the Federal Trade Commission.
Facebook and Proctor & Gamble will attend to collect detailed information for advertising purposes, whereas, Apple is looking to promote its HomeKit smart home platform by discussing how companies can establish privacy protections in terms of size, regulation and consumer demand.
All of the company's own HomeKit smart home devices will be showcased, however, unlike its 1992 show, it is not expected to be launching any new products.
Apple with participation in this roundtable will help people have better digital lives as it will be publicly pressuring the industry into taking user privacy more seriously. This will help slow down or might even stop companies that are increasingly interested in collecting vast amounts of user data without a focus on protecting that data from bad actors.
Other than CES, Apple is expected to launch its next gen iPhone 12 lineup in September. There is still some time in that, however, product leaks have already started rolling in. It is being said that the upcoming 5G variant of the iPhone 12 will come with an advanced image sensor-shift stabilisation technology that will help users in clicking stable images without distortion when there is excessive motion.

ToTok is once again available on the Google Play Store, after being removed earlier on the count of being used for government spying. However, it is yet to make its comeback on Apple's App Store.
ToTak is a popular smartphone app developed by a UAE based company. It was launched back in 2019 and offered users free calling and messaging services in countries like the United Arab Emirates where internet calling services like Skype, WhatsApp and more are blocked.
Dear ToTok Community,
The wait is over. We are happy to inform you #ToTok is now available for download on the Google Play Store. Thank you for your patience. Let's connect!https://t.co/lPV0DFk0dI
Both Google and Apple removed the app from their respective app stores after The New York Times had reported that ToTak allowed the UAE government to track conversations, movements and other details of the people who use the app. To which the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority responded by saying that "the country's laws prohibit any kind of data breach and unlawful interception."
Even though the app is once again been made available in the Google Play Store, Google has listed a number of 'updates' to the app, which include requesting access to permissions and data and a newly designed dialogue to ask authorisation of accessing and syncing your contact list.
In a statement to AFP, Apple said that "ToTok was removed from its App Store pending a review", whereas, Google responded by saying, the app was taken down "for a policy issue."
Patrick Wardle, the security researcher that assisted The New York Times in this report stated, "ToTok was a part of a mass surveillance operation, which provided in-depth insight in a large percentage of the country's population."
ToTok tricked its users into handing over the location and private data access to the app, helping them provide data maps of every user to the government according to Wardle. He said that the app was bolstered by fake reviews, which help it grow in popularity.

Once the deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar is over, all unlinked PAN cards will be treated as inoperative.
The deadline to link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card has once again been extended by the income tax department. The new deadline is March 31, 2020.
The reason as to why you need to link your Aadhaar card to your PAN card is that back in 2018 according to a Supreme Court verdict, the validity of Aadhaar is mandatory not only for filing of income tax returns (ITR) but also for Permanent Account Number (PAN) card.
Once the deadline to link PAN and Aadhaar is over, all unlinked PAN cards will be treated as inoperative, which means that any citizen with an inoperative PAN card will not be able to file income tax returns (ITR).
The income tax department has made two methods available for citizens to link their PAN and Aadhaar: Via the Income Tax e-filing website and by sending an SMS. We detail both the ways in detail below:
How to link PAN with Aadhaar via Income Tax website
