BSNL, Micromax launch a new 4G VoLTE feature phone in India: The Micromax Bharat 1

BSNL has now launched a new 4G VoLTE feature phone in partnership with Micromax. BSNL launched this feature in order to counter Jio. Recently, Airtel also launched a new cheap 4G VoLTE smartphone as to be ahead of Jio. BSNL is now offering Micromax Bharat 1, a 4G VoLTE feature phone, at a very affordable cost.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Rahul Sharma, Co-founder Micromax, “BSNL is one of the major service providers in the country and has a vast reach and network that spreads across every nook & corner of the country. Both Micromax and BSNL have been working with an aim to bring the next wave of unconnected users on the Internet. We will now take this vision forward with Bharat-1 and create a compelling proposition for the users that is a first in the category.”

BSNL offers unlimited calls and unlimited data at just Rs. 97 per month with purchase of the Micromax Bharat 1. However, one would need to pay a sum of Rs. 2,200 in order to get the handset.

The Bharat 1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 chipset for a smooth performance. The 4G feature phone comes with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage. The Bharat 1 features a 2.4-inch QVGA display. The phone is backed by a 2,000mAh battery. As for the camera, the phone sports a 2-megapixel camera at the back and a VGA camera up front. The phone supports about 22 regional languages in India.

The Micromax Bharat 1 will be available across all retail outlets in India starting October 20.

Moto X4 coming to India on November 13, Will it be the Android One variant?

Motorola recently unveiled the Moto X4 at the IFA 2017 event held in Berlin. The Lenovo owned Moto is now all set to bring the mid-range device to India. The company was supposed to launch the Moto X4 in India on October 4. However, the company has now decided to bring the smartphone to India on November 13 which has been confirmed via Moto's official Twitter handle. The UPS (Unique Selling Proposition) of the Moto X4 is that it can play music from multiple Bluetooth audio devices at the same time.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Moto X4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz. The smartphone features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. The phone comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage which is further expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. Under the hood, there is a 3,000mAh battery powering up the device. The Moto X4 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and will be soon updated to Android Oreo.

On the optics front, the Moto X4 houses a dual-camera setup at the back consisting of a 12-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 and an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture. The rear cameras come with a dual tone LED flash. Up front, the phone sports a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture and a LED flash.

The Moto X4 has been priced at EUR 399 (roughly Rs. 30,500) in the Europe. The smartphone is available in Super Black and Sterling Blue colour options.

Huawei, on Monday, held a launch event in Munich, Germany where they launched three new smartphones. The company unveiled the Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and a limited edition Mate 10 Porsche Design. All these phones come with a nearly bezel-less display.

The Mate 10 features a 5.9-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels resulting in a pixel density of 499ppi. The phone uses 16:9 aspect ratio for the display. The smartphone is powered by a  Hisilicon Kirin 970 SoC which includes a dedicated neural network processing unit (NPU) that is designed to handle tasks related to AI and deep learning. The phone packs in 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage which is further expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The phone is backed by a 4,000mAh battery and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0.

The Mate 10 Pro is powered by the same Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset coupled with an i7 co-processor. The smartphone features a 6-inch 18:9 FullView AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. The phone comes in two variants, one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage and the other with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The phone is backed by a 4,000mAh battery and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0. The phone is also IP67 rated which makes it dust and water resistant.

The Mate 10 Porsche Design is a limited edition offering from the company which is developed by Huawei in collaboration with Porsche Design. The smartphone looks a lot similar to the Mate 10 Pro except, it changes the default colour scheme and comes in only deep black colour. As for the specifications, the Mate 10 Porsche Design shares the same display and processor as seen on the Mate 10 Pro. The device, however, comes only with the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage variant. Just like the Mate 10 Pro, this one is also IP67 rated which makes it dust and water resistant.

As for the optics, the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and the Mate 10 Porsche Design sport a dual-camera setup by Leica Optics at the back consisting of a 20-megapixel Monochrome sensor paired with a 12-megapixel RGB sensor. The dual-camera on the back has an aperture of f/1.6, 2x lossless zoom Optical Image Stabilization, phase detection and laser autofocus and a dual tone LED flash.

Price and Availability

As far as the pricing is concerned, the Huawei Mate 10 is priced at EUR 699 (roughly Rs.53,400) while the Mate Pro retails for EUR 799 (roughly Rs. 61,100). The Porsche Design Mate 10 come at a premium of EUR 1,395 (roughly 1,06,600) and will be available in 20 countries including UK, UAE, Qatar, Singapore, a few Middle East and Asian countries. All these smartphones will go on sale starting mid-November.

 

Xiaomi Redmi 5A launched: Here is everything you need to know

Xiaomi has been in the news lately covered all with the leaks and rumours of its upcoming budget smartphones. The company, on Tuesday, finally took the wraps off the Redmi 5A which has been rumoured for a long time. The smartphone is a successor to the last year's Redmi 4A which performed really well under the sub Rs. 10,000 category.

The Redmi 5A runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 layered on top of it out of the box.

In the camera department, the Redmi 5A houses a 13-megapixel camera at the back with phase detection autofocus, f/2.2 aperture and a LED flash. Up front, the phone comes with a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.

As for the connectivity, the phone supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS + GLONASS.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A has been launched in China at a price of CNY 599 which roughly converts to Rs. 5,880. The phone is available in Platinum Silver, Champagne Gold and Rose Gold colour variants. It will be available for pre-orders starting October 23 in China.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A official poster surfaced online revealing key features

Xiaomi has recently launched the much-awaited Mi Mix 2 in India. The never-ending innovations have brought Xiaomi to soon launch new smartphones. Reportedly, Xiaomi has been working on a new smartphone named Redmi 5A. The Redmi 5A is likely to come with a full metal and an 8-day standby battery life.

JioPhone to be available for pre-booking once again, Post Diwali: Report

Reliance Jio has been working hard to make the whole country switch to a 4G network especially to their own Jio network. The company announced a new feature phone a few weeks ago which is called the JioPhone. The phone went on pre-booking on the company's official website but sadly many people were not able to pre-book. For those who have been waiting for the next lot, Jio might bring the JioPhone back for pre-booking after soon after Diwali.

According to a PTI report, Jio will start taking orders for their feature phone between October last week and the first week of November. however, those who booked their devices in August and have not received it yet will be receiving their phones on or before Diwali which is being celebrated on October 19. Apart from the JioPhone deliveries, it is also being speculated that Jio might introduce new Tariff plans this Diwali.

Meanwhile, Jio managed to sell more than 6 million units of the JioPhone during their first pre-booking opening. The first pre-booking started on August 24 for the public.

The JioPhone is a 4G feature phone offering from Reliance Jio. It is priced at Rs. 1,500 which will be returned after 36 months of usage making the device effectively free. However, to keep the device running, one would need to do a recharge of Rs. 153 every month. If you are interested in buying the phone, you will need to pay a sum of Rs. 500 while booking the device and Rs. 1,000 will need to be paid once you get the device delivered.

OnePlus released the Android Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T

OnePlus recently made a promise that they will bring Android Oreo to their last year's flagships OnePlus 3 and 3T. Now it feels good to see that a company like OnePlus keeps up to its promise after a lot of arguments made on the OnePlus 2's Android Nougat update. A few weeks ago, there were reports that Android Oreo is being tested for the OnePlus 3 and 3T under a closed beta program.
