Instagram removes IGTV button from its app: Here's why

The IGTV app currently has over 7 million downloads only.

Instagram has removed the IGTV button from its home screen as not many users were making use of it. The company launched a standalone IGTV app back in June 2018.

In an interview with Techcrunch, the company said, most people find IGTV videos via their feed, the IGTV channel in Explore, creators profiles and the standalone IGTV app, due to which the separate icon for the feature has been removed.

The IGTV app currently has over 7 million downloads only. This when compared to Instagram's more than 1 billion downloads, does not look that good. However, Instagram users can still see IGTV videos in their feed, which is a good thing.

Creators using IGTV still do not have a way to earn money and monetize their content, which when combined with the low amount of views might lead for creators to be hesitant from creating content for the platform.

To recall, Instagram recently made it easier to post long-form videos to its platform by allowing users to post IGTV videos right from the main app's IGTV feed video uploader.

Apart from this, Instagram in an update recently introduced four new features to share Boomerang Stories: SlowMo, Echo, Duo and the ability to trim the length of Boomerang videos. All of these new features are currently available in the Boomerang composer that is present in the Instagram Stories camera.
