Google Tez, a new UPI based payment application launched in India

Google has taken an initiative to make the digital payments more useful and common. Google Tez is a new digital payments app which is based on the UPI platform also used by the BHIM application. The Tez app works without any wallets and transfers are made directly from bank to bank without any extra charges. The application from Google is available on both Android and iOS platforms. Users must have iOS 8.2 or above or Android KitKat or above in order to install and use the application.

The Google Tez app is designed for India and it is made in India. The application currently supports seven regional languages. Google’s Ceaser Sengupta announced that Google has partnered with companies like Nokia, Micromax, Panasonic, Lava and Xolo in order to give the Tez app pre-loaded on their upcoming smartphones.

Commenting on the launch, Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, said “January was when discussions first started around this app with Google with Sundar Pichai, Caesar Sengupta, and Rajan Anandan. The Tez app is one of the most simple forms of monetary transactions. It represents a major advance in the direction of a cashless economy and it is good to see that Google has achieved in eight-to-nine months what they had planned with the launch of the Tez app”

According to Google, they have partnered up with HDFC, Axis, ICICI and SBI Bank in order to power the applications. However, the new payments app will support all the 55 banks which currently support UPI based payments.

In order to register into the applications, users will need a Gmail account as well as the mobile number registered with their bank account. The Tez app can be secured via the Android or iOS lock screen which can even be a fingerprint security. Alternatively, the application can also be secured via Google PIN which has to be set by the user. However, this will only be a way to get into the application while a user would still need a UPI PIN to make any kind of transactions.

To make the transactions even safer, Google has introduced Cash Mode through which users would not need to share their details in order to receive payments. The new Cash Mode uses the Audio QR technology which only uses the speaker and the microphone of the smartphone.

iVoomi Me3 Review: A budget smartphone with a shatterproof display

iVoomi recently launched two new smartphones which made a debut to their flagship line-up of smartphones. The two recently launched phones are dubbed as iVoomi Me3 and Me3S. Me3S being the higher variant. The USP (Unique Selling Proposition) of the smartphone is its shatterproof display. Here is our in-depth review of the iVoomi Me3.

Specifications

iVoomi Me3 features a 5.2-inch HD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. There is a 2.5D curved glass up front which is said to be shatterproof. The smartphone is powered by a 64-bit MediaTek MT6737 SoC which is a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz. The device comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage. All of this is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. The Me3 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

On the optics front, the Me3 features an 8-megapixel camera at the back with a LED flash. Up front, the device sports an 8-megapixel camera with selfie flash.

Design

The iVoomi Me3 is all about the shatterproof display which is the part of the design of the smartphone. It was interesting to see who the company managed to fit in a shatterproof display at such a low budget and still installed a 2.5D curved glass in order to keep up the design. The manufacturing unit did not make any compromises with the design despite making it a shatterproof display smartphone. The Me3 also comes with a removable back panel as well as a removable battery.

iVoomi Me 3

The shatterproof display being the unique selling proposition of the smartphone, we had to do some drop tests. We dropped the smartphone from average heights like the pocket level or the shoulder level which are the most common places from where a person drops his smartphone. Surprisingly, the display of the iVoomi Me3 did not shatter and was intact.

Performance

The performance of the iVoomi Me3 was as expected on a budget-oriented smartphone. The Me3 was able to handle some decent tasks thrown at it. It was easily handling social media applications like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter without any problem. We were also able to play some lightweight games like Temple Run and Subway Surfers during our review period. However, games like Asphalt 8 struggled which is understandable considering the price tag.

Battery

The 3,000mAh battery on the iVoomi Me3 was decent considering the price of the smartphone and was able to deliver a full working day of battery life with minimal to medium usage. However, with heavy usage, one would need to charge up the smartphone once again before the sun sets. Also, we understand that compromises are to be made in lieu of the shatterproof display.

ivoomi me 3 front

Camera

Surprisingly, the iVoomi Me3 delivers some great images from its rear camera despite being a budget smartphone. When compared to the smartphones in the same price range, the camera on the Me3 is quite impressive. Even in the indoor lighting conditions, the phone does not tend to struggle a lot. The front-facing 8-megapixel camera also delivers some decent shots and the selfie flash helps under low lighting conditions.

Verdict

ivoomi me 3 back

The iVoomi Me3 flaunts a shatterproof display which is unbelievable at the price of a budget-oriented smartphone. The Me3 retails for Rs. 5,499 which makes the shatterproof display interesting to see. Another interesting thing about this smartphone is that the company did not compromise with the design of the smartphone to get that shatterproof display to life. Surprisingly, iVoomi made it possible to install a 2.5D curved glass with the shatterproof display technology. The shatterproof display also passed all our drop tests without any issues. Apart from the design and the shatterproof display, the Me3 comes with a decent camera which can take some good shots which are even better than some other smartphone at a similar price range.

Google Pixel 2 to launch along with Pixel 2 XL on October 4

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are expected to launch on October 4 as per a teaser the company has released. The teaser has been put up by Google on their Made by Google website. It says  "Thinking about changing phones? Stay tuned for more on October 4." This teaser is extremely vague and might point towards anything like the Pixel 2 launch or even the acquisition of HTC which has been rumoured for some time now. However, we feel that Google is extremely likely to launch its flagship devices, the Google Pixel 2 and the Google Pixel 2 XL on that day.

Google Pixel XL

As of now, we know that both the new Pixel smartphones that the company will be launching will be their flagship offering for the year. It is also expected that these will go up against the recently launched flagship devices like - Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8, LG V30, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and much more.

The company released this teaser just two days after Apple launched its three new iPhone offerings in the market - iPhone X, iPhone 8, and the iPhone 8 Plus. It seems as if the company is trying to steer people towards purchasing their product instead of Apple's. Reports have also stated that the company has started to put up billboards regarding the same. The company to educate the people more about their new smartphones has even placed a banner on their search home page where it states "Ask more of your phone. Oct. 4".

Apple iPhone X spotted on Geekbench with surprising results

Apple recently launched the iPhone X alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are just updated versions of the currently available iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. iPhone X is a whole new device with a lot of new features and a whole new design language. Besides the new design language, iPhone X comes with some really powerful specifications under the hood. Surprisingly we have seen that Apple's new flagship has beaten up the Samsung Galaxy S8 in both single-core and multi-core performance tests on Geekbench.

iPhone X geekbench

iPhone X managed to score 4188 in single-core and 10069 in the multi-core performance test. Samsung Galaxy S8 lacks behind with almost half of the scores at 2024 and 6719 for the single-core and multi-core performance test respectively.

These reports suggest that the Apple's new A11 Bionic chipset is much faster and powerful than its competitors. Also, the last years A10 Fusion chip is still ahead of the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 in terms of benchmark scores which is surprising to see. However, scores are just numbers to compare devices on paper and it would be interesting to see who the new iPhones would perform in the real-life usage scenarios.

According to the latest Geekbench listings, the iPhone X runs on iOS 11 and comes with 3GB of RAM which is similar to what we saw on the iPhone 8 Plus's listings.

Apple iPhone X features a 5.8-inch OLED display which is a bezel-less display panel. The smartphone is powered by Apple's new A11 Bionic chipset coupled with the new M11 motion coprocessor for the graphics. As claimed by Apple, the new A11 Bionic chip is 70 percent faster than last year’s  A10 Fusion chipset. Apple did not discuss the RAM or the battery capacity of the smartphone during the launch. However, the listings claim that the new iPhone X comes with 3GB of RAM.

Airtel giving away 60GB of free 4G data for six months

Airtel has been in the news lately as the company has been working on providing VoLTE services to its customers. The company recently ended its Monsoon offer and has now come up with a new offer where they are offering 60GB of free 4G data for six months for its postpaid users. To get the joy of free data, customers will need to download and install Airtel TV application from Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once the customers set up the Airtel TV app, the free data will be credited to their accounts within 24 hours. However, this 60GB will not be credited at once as users will be receiving 10GB of free data per month for six months which equals to a total of 60GB.

Along with the Airtel TV application, users will also need the My Airtel app through which the offer can be claimed. Those who do not have the application can head towards Google Play Store or the Apple App Store in order to download and install the same. Once, the user is done with the installation, one would need to open the application. On opening up the app, the customer would be required to register their phone number. Once registered, users will be greeted by an advertisement banner asking to claim the free data. The customers would then need to tap on the banner and follow the on-screen instructions.

This new offer is similar to the earlier offered Monsoon Offer under which customers received 30GB of data for three months. The new offer is considerably double of that what offered under the Monsoon Offer.
