Zowie XL2546, with its stock stand, can be used in both, portrait and landscape modes

BenQ, under its Zowie branding, launched the XL2546 gaming monitor back in 2017. It is a 24.5-inch gaming monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate display with a 1ms response time. Key features of this monitor include a Black eQualizer and DyAc technology. This specific model is focused on First Person Shooting (FPS) games and here is how the monitor performed during our review process.

Zowie XL2546 Review: Design

The Zowie XL2546 monitor looks quite basic from the front, while it does give a bit of an aggressive vibe with red accents running through the back and the stand. One of the best things about its design is that the monitor has minimal bezels and no RGB lighting, to disturb gamers and helps them in focusing on the game. Speaking of distractions, Zowie XL2546 also comes with privacy panels, which can be attached on each side to reduce any third-party distractions.

Zowie XL2546 Review: Features

Zowie ZL2546 comes with a couple of features including DyAc, which stands for Dynamic Accuracy. This according to the company, provides a much smoother gaming experience compared to other gaming monitors and at the same time helps in accurate aiming.

It also comes with a Black eQualizer, which basically brightens up dark areas on the display without over-exposing the other areas. This also gives a competitive advantage in maps like Cobblestone and Nuke in CS:GO, where enemies become quite difficult to spot due to them being hidden in dark areas.

The monitor display features Flicker-Free technology, which reduces eye strain and eliminates any type of background flickering. Users can also adjust Colour Vibrance, which comes handy while playing games like PUBG. However, we did wish that the monitor came with Nvidia Gsync or AMD Free Sync technologie for an even better gaming experience.

Zowie also provides a headphone stand on the left side

As far as the ports are concerned, Zowie XL2546 comes with two USB 3.0 ports, headphone jack, microphone jack, a display port, two HDMI ports and a DVI port for display input. However, you will have to use only the display port in order to achieve the claimed 240Hz refresh rate.

Zowie XL2546 Review: Performance

Zowie XL2546 is capable of taking your gaming experience to a whole new level. However, in return, your PC should be capable of pushing out such high frames per second (FPS). We recommend using a system with at least a Nvidia GTX 1060 or higher for the best experience. Also, you will need to tweak some of your in-game settings in order to assure a consistent frame rate. Once you have capable hardware, the smoothness of a 240Hz display will surely enhance your gaming experience.

Zowie XL2546 is made for FPS games like CS:GO

If you are upgrading from a 144Hz monitor, the difference might not be that evident. However, coming from a 60Hz monitor will make a huge difference for you. The smooth frame rates will also give a competitive advantage over other people you are playing games with. During the time I had the monitor for testing, I mainly played CS:GO and the game felt a lot better. Also, the monitor gives you a lot of options so that you can tweak it the way you want your games to look.

However, when playing titles like Battlefield V, PUBG and Fortnite made me miss higher resolutions like 1440p or 4k as this monitor sports a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels.

Zowie has also bundled an S-Switch in the box, which allows for easy profile switching

BenQ has also thrown in an S-Switch, which allows you to switch between different display profiles in a click of a button. It is handy for those who like to use different display settings for different games. Interestingly, the S-Switch comes with its own memory which means you can take it around and install it on any compatible Zowie monitor and get your settings up and running in just one tap.

Zowie XL2546 Review: Verdict

Zowie XL2546 is available at a retail price of Rs. 45,990, which feels very expensive when you look at it as a monitor. However, when you are aiming towards getting into competitive gaming or you are a part of the scene already, the price tag will not pinch you. It offers a lot of advantages in FPS games and takes your gaming experience to a new level. If you are looking for a monitor for casual use or playing non-FPS games, you might wanna consider other options.

Top 5 reasons why Stock Android is better than rest: Faster updates, better performance and more

OnePlus, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6T launch
OnePlus 6T provides a close to stock Android experience

Android is one of the most popular operating system in the smartphone world. While most people love the operating system, not everyone gets to taste the true flavors. Most OEMs like to put their own skinned version of Android. However, here's why you should prefer using stock Android over skins like MIUI, EMUI and One UI.

1.) Faster Updates

One of the more common reason you will hear from someone suggesting stock Android is the faster updates. While Google Pixel devices get the latest version of Android as soon as it is launched, others have to wait. OEMs like Samsung and Xiaomi have to wait until the update is available and they make extra changes before making the update available for their devices. Though Google's Project Treble is trying to solve this issue, stock Android still gets updates faster.

2.) True Android experience

Android Pie
Android 9.0 Pie is the latest version of Android

If you need a true experience of something, you need to use as it is. So, if you need the true Android experience, you should use its stock version rather than some skinned variant by other OEMs. Custom ROMs like Pixel Experience can also get you a stock Android experience on any supported device.

3.) No bloatware

One of the few things that can spoil your Android experience is the bloatware. Custom UIs like MIUI and EMUI usually carry a lot of bloatware and customized applications which tend to eat up a lot of storage on your smartphone. Stock Android comes with only what is necessary.

4.) No duplication

Google Camera Galaxy S8
Google makes its own version of most applications

Most smartphone manufacturers usually come up with a duplicate version of an already available Android app. While Android offers its own assistant called Google Assistant, companies like Samsung still install their own assistants like Bixby. It creates confusion and also eats up a lot of internal storage.

5.) Better performance

As stock Android is not covered by a heavy skin or any bloatware, its performance is usually much better than other custom skinned version of the operating system. It also consumes less RAM, which ultimately helps in a better performance.

Lenovo K9 first impressions: The best budget smartphone?

Lenovo, K9
The Lenovo K9 is one of the best smartphones in budget segment.

Lenovo recently made their comeback in India with the Lenovo K9. The Lenovo K9 costs Rs 8,999 and sports a dual front and rear camera setup with an 18:9 aspect ratio display, 2.5D curved glass and much more.

So is the Lenovo K9 an apt device for company's comeback into the Indian market? Let's find out:

Lenovo K9 first impressions: Specifications

Lenovo K9 sports a 5.72-inch Full View display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz aided by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is a hybrid dual slot for SIM cards and a microSD card.

As far as the optics are concerned, Lenovo K9 sports a 13-megapixel primary sensor coupled with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor on the back and front. All of this is backed by a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with USB-Type C support.

Lenovo K9 first impressions: Design

The Lenovo K9 sports a 5.72-inch Full View display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Its display is good for the price point. However, the overall build quality feels a bit unsatisfactory. In entirety, the phone feels like it is been built out of cheap materials. However, this is mostly due to the poor quality of glass being used. But it is better than most of the other options available in this price range.

Design-wise, the phone looks good and considering the price point, this is more than what we could have asked for.

Overall the design and build quality of Lenovo K9 is amazing keeping the price point in mind. Additionally, the USB Type-C port is a cherry on top.

Lenovo K9 first impressions: Camera

Coming to the optics, Lenovo K9 sports a 13-megapixel primary sensor coupled with a 5-megapixel secondary sensor on the back. On the front, it utilises the same setup to take selfies.

Lenovo, K9, Camera
Lenovo K9 camera samples showcase, how good the cameras perform.

Lenovo K9's rear camera is quite good and takes amazing photos. The colours and details are very accurate whereas, the focus is on point. This is hands-down one of the best camera on a smartphone that I have personally tested in this price range as of now.

Lenovo, K9, Camera
Beauty Mode (Left), Normal (Right)

Story remains the same for the front camera module. However, the front camera setup comes with a software beautification mode by default, which is really bad. The beauty mode over smoothens the skin to a point where details are completely lost.

Apart from the really bad beauty mode, the front dual camera setup is really good.

Lenovo K9 first impressions: Conclusion

Lenovo, K9
If you don't mind the Lenovo brand name, you should go for this one.

Lenovo K9 was launched in India at Rs. 8,999, however, is currently available at Rs 7,999 on Flipkart. At this price point, it has hands down one of the best camera smartphones I have personally tested. The smartphone features a premium design along with a USB Type-C port, which makes it a bit future proof.

One of the best things that I liked about the Lenovo K9 is its almost stock Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. Considering the specifications to price ratio the device provides, it feels like a very good deal. However, it is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 processor, which is a bit underpowered. However, considering the price point, Lenovo K9 is a good smartphone to spend your money on.

How to watch YouTube videos while chatting on WhatsApp

WhatsApp
WhatsApp is the biggest Online Messaging Platform

Messaging Giant WhatsApp has finally brought the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) for Android users. The feature was launched in beta back in October and is announced in stable version 2.18.380 of WhatsApp. You can now watch Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram videos while scrolling through the chat normally.

Also, WhatsApp ought this feature to their iOS users back in January. The feature has been delayed a lot for Android that users thought that Android wasn't getting this feature ever.

You don't need to change any settings to enable this feature on the latest version of WhatsApp on Android (2.18.380 and above). Once you are on the said version or above and you receive a Youtube, Facebook, or Instagram video and you click on it, there will be a small dedicated window that opens on the top of your screen playing the video. The window is movable so you can place it wherever you want. This will enable you to chat while watching Youtube Video in the background. This works both in Group Chat and one-on-one chat.

WhatsApp

However, the new feature is not that great. You cannot play videos sent to WhatsApp chat directly which happens more than videos by another platform. You cannot also play videos sent by other platforms like Vimeo except Youtube, Facebook, and Instagram.

Also, PiP is enabled in devices running Android Oreo and above, so if your device is running Android Nougat 7.x or below, you won't be able to make use of the latest feature by the messaging giant. Also this feature is also not available on the WhatsApp web application.

How to get this feature?

If you aren't able to play videos in Picture in Picture mode, head over to Google Play store and from the side menu select My apps and Games. This will lead you to a page showing you all the updates for all your apps. Update WhatsApp from there. The update should take you to version 2.18.380 or higher. If you haven't received the update, then wait you will get it in a day or two as the roll-out is done in phases.
