What is Apple iPhone XS charge-gate and how to solve it?

Apple iPhone Xs (1)
The Apple iPhone XS and XS Max refuse to charge

Apple recently launched three new iPhones, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR. While the iPhone XR is not available yet, the XS and XS Max are in a few people's pockets right now. These users have reported that the new iPhones have a major issue with charging which they are calling the ChargeGate.  So here's everything you need to know about the problem.

What is Chargegate?

Apparently, some iPhone XS and XS Max users claim that their iPhones won't start to charge as soon as they plug in the cable. These users are using the original power adapter and cable provided in the box. However, the issue is not on every iPhone but on some. Also, not all the users are sharing similar problems. While some claim that the iPhone starts charging only when you wake it up once, others claim that their iPhone becomes totally unresponsive. There are also users who claim that their iPhone would refuse to take the charge at all and they have to either try flipping the cable or restarting their device.

iPhone Charge
Image: Unbox Therapy

The iPhone XS and XS Max users who started facing these issues reported their problems on the Apple forums. The whole charge gate thing came into the limelight after the popular YouTuber Lewis form Unbox Therapy did a video about it. In his video, he tried charging around 10 different iPhone XS and XS Max and did notice the same problem.

Also Read: Here’s what we think about the new Apple iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone XR

How to solve the issue?

As of writing this article, Apple has not yet responded to the problem. If this is a software bug, the users should receive an OTA update fixing the issue soon. However, if this has to do something with the hardware, users will have to take their iPhones to the Apple Service centres and get them replaced.

Until Apple responds to the problem, iPhone XS and XS Max users can use a QI-enabled wireless charger instead. Reports claim that the new iPhones are not giving any issues when being charged wirelessly. The issue only arises during the traditional cable charging method.
