Here's how to protect your Samsung Galaxy Fold from breaking

Samsung announced one of the first foldable smartphones at their recent Unpacked event. The Samsung Galaxy Fold is finally up for pre-orders in the U.S. and the company has started giving away review units to the media. Within less than 24 hours, users have started complaining about the Galaxy Fold's screen. Here's how you can keep your Galaxy Fold safe when you get one.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, this one is not that big of a problem. Apparently, Samsung shipped these review units without the warning sign that states "Attention: The main screen includes a special protective layer. Peeling off the protective layer or using any adhesives on the main screen, such as screen protectors, may cause damage."

As these units did not have a warning on them, users including Marques Brownlee from MKBHD removed the protective layer thinking it of as some sort of screen protector. That caused the damage to the main screen and his all-new foldable smartphone stopped working within a few hours of him unboxing it.

On the other hand, Dieter from TheVerge, claims that his unit of Samsung Galaxy Fold got a line on the main screen just after two days of usage. Notably, he did not peel off the protective layer and still got into a problem.

So, if you are looking out to buy a new Samsung Galaxy Fold, we would recommend to wait for a few weeks until more reviews come out. Also, if you managed to get one, make sure you do not peel off the protective layer, which will end up breaking up your all-new shiny 2000 USD smartphone.

OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T finally get Android 9 Pie: Here's how to install it right away

OnePlus 3 back
OnePlus 3/3T finally get the much-awaited Android 9 Pie update.

While Google is working hard on releasing the next big Android update, OnePlus has finally rolled out last year's Android Pie for the 3-year old flagship devices. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T have started receiving the Android 9 Pie update. However, the update is currently a part of the company's Community Beta program.

In order to get the update installed, users should be on the latest Open Beta or Stable build of OxygenOS on the OnePlus 3/3T. The Open Beta users will then need to download the appropriate file and update their devices through Recovery Update. Users on the stable build have the advantage of simply installing the update via Local or Recovery Update.

The new Android 9 Pie update for both the devices weigh in at around 1.6GB and interested users can download the appropriate file from the links below.

As far as the changelog is concerned, the update brings Google's Android 9 Pie operating system and all its new features. Apart from that, it introduces the latest April 2019 Android Security Patch. It also brings a new Do Not Disturb mode with adjustable settings, deep integration with Google Duo and integrated Google Lens mode for the stock camera app. The old OnePlus devices also get the new Gaming Mode 3.0 with new text notification mode and notification for 3rd party calls.

Vivo has rolled out yet another update for its popular Vivo V15 Pro smartphone. The smartphone runs on FunTouch OS 9, which is based on Google's Android Pie o[erating system. With the new 1.20.1 update, the company brings a complete overhaul for a lot of the UI elements. Here's everything that has changed with the new update.

As soon as you boot up the smartphone for the first time after the update, you will notice that the Face Unlock icon now has a smiley and a rainbow effect to it, which in my opinion looks really great. Further, the update has also introduced around seven new animations for the in-display fingerprint scanner and around nine new Always-on-Display styles.

Vivo update 1
The new update brings changes to the UI elements.

Alongside the new UI elements, the update also brings a few new wallpapers to the table to give the phone a more refreshing look and feel. There is also a new control centre, which is more or less inspired by Apple's iOS operating system. Brightness and Volume sliders get an iOS-like feel to them. Also, the control centre can expand further to bring something called Shortcut centre.

Vivo update 2
The new range of AOD styles and fingerprint animations are quite attractive.

The changelog also suggests that the new update brings optimisations to processing of contacts, the effect of the rear camera, compatibility of Wi-Fi networks, audio parameters and more. The update also offers improved system security, stability and compatibility with the third-party apps.

My personal favourite changes are the new Always-on-Display styles as well as the new animations for the in-display fingerprint scanner. They give the phone a much more refreshing feel.

Google is looking forward to bring tons of new exciting features to the Android app store, Google Play Store. According to a recent report, the company is working on bringing a much-awaited feature, simultaneous app downloads. As the name suggests, the feature will allow users to download multiple apps simultaneously instead of downloading them one by one.

According to a recent report by Android Police, some users have already started to notice that the feature has been enabled on their phone. The change has not yet arrived everywhere so it might take some time before it reaches your smartphone. As per the report, this might be a server-side change, which means Google will roll it out region by region.

Apart from that, Googe is also testing a new feature called internal app sharing. The feature will allow developers to share a rough version of an app or app update to those invited to an internal test channel.

Google will deliver Android Q updates via its Play Store

OnePlus, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6T launch
Future Android updates are expected to arrive via the Play Store.

Google recently rolled out the first developer preview of the Android Q. Just like previous Android versions, people using phones from OEMs other than OnePlus, Nokia and Google will have to wait for nearly 6-7 months in order to get the update. However, Google aims to change that by pushing Android updates via Google Play Store.

According to a recent post on Reddit, the user claims that they received an Android software update via the Google Play Store. This type of update was noticed on the latest iteration of Android, the Android Q Beta 2. It is quite different from what Android users have gotten used to.

If things work out well, Google will be able to change the way updates are handled. While the Reddit user claims it was a relatively small update package, the new system can even be used to deliver Android Security Patches as well as major Android update in the future. However, on the other end, this could also mean that Google will stick with the Settings menu for major updates and use the Play Store to deliver the minor updates.

The new way of delivering Android updates will make it easier for other OEMs. It will also make sure all Android phones, no matter from which OEM, are up-to-date and are secure to use. The change will is most expected to come with the Android Q's final build.

Apple will improve its Mail app with iOS 13.

Apple is gearing up to release the much-awaited iOS 13 update for iPhones and iPads. The company has scheduled a yearly World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC), which is set to begin on June 3, 2019. With the new iOS 13 update, the company is planning to introduce tons of exciting features.

To begin with, there will be a much-awaited system-wide dark mode for both iPhones as well as iPads. Interestingly, even the iPad apps that run on Mac via Marzipan will also be able to take advantage of the new dark mode. The Dark Mode will especially be useful on the newer iPhones like iPhone X, iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max as it will help saving battery using OLED displays.

Apart from this, there are a ton of iPad-specific features in the upcoming update. One of these changes includes the ability to use multiple windows. Each one can contain sheets that will be initially attached to one portion of the screen. However, the user can detach them with a drag gesture, after which that will become a card, which can be moved around. The cards will even support stacking and use a depth effect to indicate which are on top.

In order to increase productivity, the new update will force Safari on the iPad to automatically ask for a desktop version of a website when necessary. This will make using an iPad much easier and users will be able to bring out its true potential.

The upcoming iOS 13 will also bring a new undo gesture, which will allow users to swipe with three fingers in the keyboard area. Users can either do the three-finger swipe gesture towards the left to undo or towards the right to redo.
