How to understand your car diagnosis codes and then what to do

Modern cars are quite intricate and one needs to take time to learn how to diagnose some of the car problems they encounter daily. However, other problems may be quite complex for the driver to diagnose on their own without professional help. Sometimes you could be driving fast and all of a sudden, your car indicator will turn on and demand that you “Check Engine”. When this kind of problem occurs, how should you go about it? How do you start to find out the source of the problem? Well, this is where the OBD2 code reader comes in handy to help you.

In this article, we shall examine what steps you need to take while using the OBD2 code reader. This will help you know some of the things you can do when you use the code reader.

First, find the menu

When you are done selecting your car model and other required information for the code reader, you will have to wait for the reader to boot up and then find the Menu. For you to diagnose your car engine problems, select the “codes” or the “Trouble Codes” on the main code Menu of the OBD2 reader. Here, your reader could present you with system choices such as Transmission, Powertrain/Engine, Brakes, Airbags, and so on. Pick any of these choices and you will see more codes. These are Active Codes or Pending Codes. Live codes refer to the malfunctions that are keeping the Check Engine lights on.

The Pending Codes refer to a failed OBD2 monitoring system operation and therefore in case it fails another time, then the Check Engine light will turn on.

What do the letters mean?

The diagnostic codes start with a letter. Here are some of them:

The letter P

This letter stands for the Powertrain and has the largest number of codes. The codes in this range refer to problems associated with the engine. Here, you can get codes associated with transmission problems, emissions, ignition problems, and fuel systems, among others.

The Letter B

This letter in the codes refers to problems associated with airbags, power seating, seat belts, and more.

The Letter C

This refers to the issues related to the Chassis. Here, you will find codes that cover brake fluids, axle, ABS, and others.

The Letter U

This covers issues in your vehicle that have to do with Undefined problems or issues with the vehicle.

Common Diagnostic Codes

Code P0420- this code refers to a problem with the catalytic converter. This can be diagnosed and repaired by experienced professionals.

Code -P04976: this coder refers to Evap flow during a non-purge condition. This system helps the car contain dangerous fumes and therefore when such a code pops up on the code reader, a technician will help repair such a problem.

Code P0171: This code refers to problems related to oxygen sensor issues. A problem to do with the oil and fuel ratio is the issue here. It means the ratio of the fuel and air leaving the engine cylinders is not as is required. As such, when such an error pops on the OBD2 reader, a suitable technician will sort it out.

These issues and reports are steadily rising, with the report numbers on Down Detector increasing from 243 to over 800 within a matter of minutes.

Users have also taken to Twitter and other social media platforms to raise a concern about the issues.

WhatsApp has not issued a statement regarding the issue. However, seeing its past record with such problems we expect the company to already be hard at work trying to fix it. But, considering the COVID-19 situation and that most people are working from home, we might see a longer wait than usual before the services are completely back up online.

If we were to take a guess, the issues could have been caused due to a particular server not responding or down due to hardware issues.

The services are not down for all users and some are still able to do everything, this is because they might not be connected to the faulty server. If your services start to work and then stop in between multiple times, it means that the company is trying to fix the issue.

Reliance Jio new Disney+ Hotstar plans revealed; here are the details

Reliance Jio has partnered up with Disney+ Hotstar in order to offer free VIP subscription to its prepaid users. The telecom operator will be bundling the membership with certain plans. The company has announced the partnership in order to compete against Airtel, who is already offering free Hotstar VIP annual subscription with their Rs. 401 plan.

Interestingly, Jio is also offering the free Disney+ Hotstar VIP annual subscription with a new Rs. 401 prepaid plan. Apart from the VIP subscription worth Rs. 399, the prepaid recharge plan brings in 3GB of daily highspeed data and unlimited voice calls for a validity of 28 days. The company has also given an additional 6GB data, which can be used once the 3GB daily data is consumed. This brings the total data in the validity period to 90GB.

Just like other prepaid plans by the Mumbai-based telecom operators, the Rs. 401 plan only offers unlimited Jio to Jio calls while Jio to Non-Jio calls are capped at 1,000 minutes. The subscribers will also get 100SMS messages per day and complimentary subscription to Jio apps.

Reliance Jio is also offering the free Disney+ Hotstar VIP annual subscription with its new annual plan. The new Rs. 2,599 prepaid recharge plan brings a validity of 365 days where it offers 3GB of 4G data per day alongside an additional 10GB data resulting in a total of 740GB of data.

Additionally, the users will get unlimited calls on the same network along with 12,000 Non-Jio FUP minutes. It also offers 100 SMS messages per day alongside a complimentary subscription to Jio apps.

The company is also offering the free Disney+ Hotstar VIP annual subscription with some of its data add-on plans. The offer is applicable on the following data add on plans -

  • Rs. 612 recharge pack offering 72GB of data on the existing plan
  • Rs. 1,004 plan offering 200GB of data for 120 days
  • Rs. 1,206 pack with 240GB of data for 180 days
  • Rs. 1,208 add on pack offering 240GB of data with a validity of 240 days

The free Disney+ Hotstar VIP annual subscription benefit is available for both new and existing Jio customers. With the streaming platform, the users will get access to exclusive Hotstar specials, unlimited live sporting action, latest Bollywood movies, superhero movies and lots more.

In comparison, Airtel is offering the free Disney+ Hotstar VIP annual subscription to its prepaid customers with the new Rs. 401 plan. Samsung Galaxy A50s receives price cut, now starts at Rs 18,599

Samsung Galaxy A50s has received a lot of price cuts before. However, recently we saw the company increase its price due to the hike in GST rates for mobiles phones in March.

Samsung during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has announced a price cut for its Galaxy A50s smartphone. It is now available at a starting price of Rs. 18,599 after getting a price cut of Rs. 2,471 for its base variant. And the 6GB RAM variant is available at Rs. 20,561.

Samsung Galaxy A50s smartphone in India back in September 2020 at a price tag of Rs. 22,999 for the base 4GB RAM variant and at Rs. 24,999 for the 6GB RAM variant.

The Galaxy A50s has received a lot of price cuts before. However, recently we saw the company increase its price due to the hike in GST rates for mobiles phones in March.

Apart from the Galaxy A50s, the company has also reduced the prices of its Galaxy M21 smartphone. Samsung Galaxy M21 is currently available at Rs. 13,199 for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant and at Rs. 15,499 for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage variant.

You can currently order these smartphones at the new prices from e-commerce websites like Amazon and Flipkart if you reside in Orange or Green zones. However, if you reside in Red zones like Delhi, then you will have to wait longer for the lockdown to lift on May 17.

Samsung Galaxy A50s: Specifications

Samsung Galaxy A50s sports a 6.4-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display. It is powered by the company's own Exynos 9611 processor paired with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage expandable up to 512GB via a microSD card.

Reliance Jio providing select users free 2GB daily data benefit: Report

Reliance Jio is reportedly offering free additional data to select users. Under this scheme, the company is providing customers with 2GB daily data with a validity of five days. Users are posting screenshots of getting the scheme on OnlyTech forums.

Take note, the 2GB daily data benefit is being provided to customers on top of their existing data quota. This additional data will be made available for users to see inside of the My Plans section of the MyJio app. There the data will show up inside of the Jio Data Pack title along with the users current plan benefits.

Under this scheme, if you have a plan that provides you 2GB of daily high speed data, it will become 4GB of daily data for five days, after which the additional data will expire and your plan will revert to 2GB of daily high speed data.

To recall, this is not the first time that the company is providing random customers with 2GB of additional daily data for a duration of five days. It did the same back in April of this year. It also did the same back in 2018, with its Jio Celebrations Pack.

The company seems to be providing benefits like these to customers to help of the strain that the current countrywide lockdown due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is causing to Indians. The company even provided all Jio Phone users 100 minutes of free voice calls and 100 SMSes until April 17 totally free of cost.

Back in October, Microsoft launched its first pair of truly wireless earphones, Surface Earbuds back in October. It is priced at $249 (approximately Rs. 19,000), which is a bit expensive for a pair of truly wireless earphones. To justify the price, the company has announced that the Surface Earbuds will now be able to control PowerPoint presentations too.

The feature is now currently only available to Microsoft Insiders running PowerPoint using Windows Version 2004 (Build 12730.20270) or later. The company is yet to announce the public availability details of the feature.

This new feature will become one of the USP's of the Surface Earbuds. No other truly wireless earphones available in the market claims to control PowerPoint presentations. The company says that this feature will come handy "for parents with work presentations and kids with end-of-the-year school projects."

How to control PowerPoint presentations using Surface Earbuds

  • Pair your Surface Earbuds with your PC using the Surface Audio app.
  • After the earbuds are connected, open the PowerPoint presentation that you want to present and start the slideshow.
  • Inside of the Slide Show mode, right click on your mouse and hover on 'Surface Earbuds Settings'. Now click the 'Use Gestures to Control Presentation' option. (Once selected, the setting will be remembered by the PC until changed)
  • You can now swipe forward and backwards on your left earbud to control the presentation. You can also double tap to play or pause videos embedded inside of the presentation.

Key points to remember while using the feature

  • PowerPoint presentations can only be controlled via the left earbud.
  • The earbud does not need to be inside of your ear to function as a PowerPoint remote, you can simply hold it in your hand and use it to control the presentation.
  • If you do not see the 'Surface Earbuds Settings' in the PowerPoint slideshow, confirm if the earbuds have been paired to the PC using the Surface Audio app or not. If not, reconnect them.
  • While controlling PowerPoint presentations using the Surface Earbuds, users will not be able to hear system audio. To let the system stream audio back to the earbuds, users will have to disable the feature by going into a PowerPoint presentation, starting a slideshow, using the right click, hovering on the 'Surface Earbuds Settings' and then tapping on the 'Use Gestures to Control Presentation'.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro is set to go on sale in India on May 18 at 12 noon. The smartphone was launched back in March, but the company has not been able to run enough sales due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With restrictions being eased for e-commerce platforms as well as retailers, Xioami has decided to bring back its flash sales on Amazon.in and Mi.com

While many will be able to buy the Xiaomi smartphone tomorrow, the people living in Red Zones or containment areas will still have to wait for a while. This should at least help the manufacturer to sell some units as compared to the month of April where all the brands had zero sales.

As for the pricing, Redmi Note 9 Pro is available for Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 16,999 for the 4GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB models respectively. The smartphone is available in Aurora Blue, Glacier White and Interstellar Black colour variants.

As these are just the initial sales, Xiaomi also has a couple of offers available. ICICI credit cards users will be able to avail an instant discount of Rs. 1,000. Airtel users will get double data with benefits with Rs. 298 and 398 Unlimited Packs.

In terms of the specifications, the dual-SIM handset features a 6.67-inch fullHD+ IPS LCD display. The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor paired with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. All of this is backed by a 5,020mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

Realme Buds Air Neo leaked: Realme Buds Air is currently one of the most popular truly wireless earphones currently available in India. However, at Rs. 3,999, they are not the cheapest truly wireless earphones available in India. As a lot of them from rival brands like boAt cost around Rs. 2,000.

To capture that market it has long been rumoured that the company will be launching a cheaper version, called the Realme Buds Air Neo. Now in a new leak by 91Mobiles, the upcoming earbuds will come with a 17-hour battery life and will be powered by the same custom R1 chip that is inside of the Buds Air.

According to the leak, one of the major cost cuts will be the use of a microUSB port instead of a Type-C port on the charging case. The Realme Buds Air Neo will not support wireless charging, a feature of the Buds Air that is prominently marketed everywhere.

Apart from those compromises, users will not be able to differentiate between the Buds Air and the Buds Air Neo as a lot of the specifications remain the same, including the style and size of the products.

The leak did not detail on when the company is planning to launch the product in the Indian market. However, there is a lot of speculation that the company might launch them at its May 25 online event.

Grand Theft Auto, the franchise owned by Rockstar Games has ruled over the gaming industry for decades now. Now its latest iteration, GTA 5 is currently available for free. Yes, you read that right! The game is available for free via the Epic Games Store. Sprinkling some more element of surprise, this is not a regular version of the game but GTA 5 Premium Edition that brings a cash bonus of $1 million, which can be used in GTA Online.

As this is a tempting offer, the company has set a clock on it. The offer will be available on the Epic Games Store only until May 21. Keep in mind that the store is currently receiving too many requests to download GTA V, due to which it has been seeing continuous crashes.

People trying to download the free GTA 5 are experiencing slow load times, 500 errors and more, because of the servers being overloaded. Some have even reported that the Epic Games Launcher, which is used to maintain the game library is constantly crashing.

Many are even unable to play Fortnite. Players have been complaining about issues related to the loading of the game, in-app purchases and more.

Epic Games has tweeted that they have been working towards fixing the problems and the issues. They expect to soon resolve these.

As of writing this article, we did not face any issue trying to get the game for free and even downloading it on our gaming rig.

Here's how you can download GTA 5 Premium Edition for free via the Epic Games Store:

  • Open EpicGames.com on your web browser.
  • Type GTA in the search box and click on 'Grand Theft Auto V'.
  • You will be prompted with a notice that you are trying to access the page of an 18+ rated game. If you are eligible, click on 'OK'.
  • Tap on the 'Get' icon highlighted in green.
  • Now, you will be asked to sign in with your Epic Games account. If you do not have one already, you will need to sign up for one.
  • Once done, head over to the GTA 5 page and tap on the 'Get' option again
  • In order to download the game for free, you will be prompted to enable 'Enable two-factor authentication' screen if not enabled. Enable it by following the on-screen instructions.
  • Tap on the 'Place Order' option

Now, the game has been added to the library of your Epic Games account. In order to download the game to your PC, you will need to follow these steps:

  • Head over to the Epic Games website.

  • On the left-hand side, tap on 'Library'.
  • Click on the install option found right below the GTA 5 label.
  • Select the path where you want the installation to take place.
