Top 5 reasons to buy an Android phone over an iPhone: Customisations, Notifications and more

Android Pie
Android 9.0 Pie is Google's latest offering

The war between the two popular mobile operating systems, Android and iOS is never-ending. While one offers more security, other brings in more customisation options. It usually comes down to user preference. So, here are the top 5 reasons why you should prefer an Android phone over an Apple iPhone.

Variety

When you look out for an Android phone, you will be astonished by the number of options in front of you. From Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 80,000, there are a variety of smartphones available. Also, you can choose between something like Poco F1, which offers great value for your money or even the OnePlus 6T, which comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Customisations

Some phones even have a customisable Always-on-Display

The number of customisations an Android phone offer is leaps and bounds ahead of what iOS could ever offer. If you are bored of just how your home screen looks, you can just head over to the Play Store and download a new launcher and even new icon packs. While Apple fanboys will argue that Jailbreaking an iPhone opens up the world of customisations, remember not everyone likes to take that risk. Also, there are dozens of custom ROMs and kernels if you really want to experiment with the capabilities of your device.

Notifications

One thing that Android has always been better at is the way it handles notifications. A simple task like swiping away a notification feels way easier and natural when compared to iOS. Also, there are individual actions for the notifications and bundled notifications help in keeping things clean.

Multi-Tasking

As smartphones are getting more powerful, people like to perform multiple tasks at once. Multi-tasking on Android is way better than iOS as it offers split-screen mode and an option to clear all the background apps together.

Apps

Apps are one of the best parts of using a smartphone.

Android offers millions of applications and games on its Google Play Store. It also gives users the liberty of easily sideloading any application, which is quite helpful for developers. There are even apps that allow users to lock other apps, which is not available on iOS.

Jio GigaFiber to officially roll out starting March 2019: Here's everything you need to know

Mr. Mukesh Ambani announced his plans about GigaFiber on August 15

Relinace Jio started offering the Jio GigaFiber connection to some users in Delhi and Mumbai a few months ago. Now, the telecom operator is gearing up to commercially launch the GigaFiber across the country. Initially, it will only be available in major cities like Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai and later spread towards the tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India.

For those who are unaware, GigaFiber is a Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband service by Reliance Jio, which aims to bring high speed internet connection to every house. According to a report by India Today, Jio is planning to commercially launch GigaFiber in India sometime in March 2019.

As of now, users in Delhi and Mumbai have been enjoying a free trial version of the FTTH broadband connection. Now with GigaFiber, Jio aims to provide a high-speed internet connection to over 50 million houses in India. The GigaFiber setup will also come with a router and a Jio GigaTV setup box.

At the recent Reliance AGM, Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that Jio is planning to spread GigaFiber in 1,100 cities. It means that within the first phase over 1,100 cities will be covered.

As of now, the company has not revealed the pricing details of the internet service. Top 5 reasons to buy an iPhone over Android: Security, Apps and more

Security

One of the more popular reasons why people opt in for an iPhone, is the security it brings. The operating system is way more secure than Android as it is completely controlled by Apple. Android, on the other side, is controlled and modified by the OEM you buy your phone from.

Apple even denied the request of the FBI for providing one of its user's private data. On the other side of the world, smartphone manufacturers like Huawei have been accused of selling their user's personal information to third parties.

Software Optimisations

As we have said this before, the user experience is wildly dependent on the software. Apple is known for optimising their software in such a way where 4GB of RAM is enough to beat the competition having upwards of 8GB. Also, considering that Apple has to optimise the software only for a small number of devices, it performs way better and smoother than most Android flagships.

Apps

While most apps are now common between the two popular mobile operating systems, there are a few apps that are still iOS only. Also, the apps developed for iOS are of higher quality and usually has fewer bugs when compared to their Android counterparts.

Most new apps like Fortnite tend to first appear on the App store. The game was available on iOS nearly four months before it ever hit Android. Also, apps that use camera like Instagram and Snapchat work way better on the iPhones.

iPhone 5S currently runs on iOS 12.1.2

Apple offers an industry leading device support. Apple iPhone 5S, which was launched back in 2013 runs the latest iOS 12.1.2 from 2018. In the Android world, Samsung Galaxy S4 (launched in 2013) got only updates till Android Lollipop (2014).

While Android updates come for a maximum of three years, Apple delivers updates to even a 5 year old device. Though the company was recently accused of slowing down old iPhones, the more recent iOS 12 update has been optimised in such a way that it runs faster even on older devices.

Eco System

When customers head over to the Apple store and pick their first brand new iPhone, they willingly or unwillingly get stuck into the EcoSystem. In case you are wondering what this ecosystem is about, its the way Apple devices talk to each other.

Apple iOS integrates quite well with MacOS

Once you get an iPhone, you might invest in a smartwatch and the only good option you will have is the Apple Watch. For wireless earphones, your best bet would be the AirPods. Now for a good synchronisation, the laptop of your choice would be the MacBook. Once you have invested this much into the ecosystem, your upgrades will most probably come from Apple.

Basically, Apple's devices work quite seamlessly with each other, which makes iOS leaps and bounds ahead of Android.

Top 5 features coming to WhatsApp in 2019: Dark Mode, App Lock and more

WhatsApp, features, 2019
WhatsApp is planning to bring these top 5 features in 2019

WhatsApp has been around for years now and it has become one of the most popular cross-platform messaging applications. One of the reason behind its success is the amount of features developers keep adding now and then. The Facebook-owned company also has huge plans for this year and here are the top 5 features coming to the app in 2019.

None of these features have been confirmed by WhatsApp. However, they are truly based on speculations and rumours.

Dark Mode

One of the most anticipated features is the Dark Mode. We have seen enough rumours and reports that suggest WhatsApp is working on some kind of Dark Mode or Night Mode. This mode will basically turn the whites into blacks making the app easier to use at night. Also, this will help saving battery on phones with OLED displays.

App Lock

Most people like to hide their chats as that is something personal. WhatsApp is planning to eliminate the need of any sort of third part app lock by introducing such feature within the app itself. Users will be able to make use of the Fingerprint scanner on their phones to authenticate.

Continuity in Voice Notes

We all have that one friend who tells his or her stories through multiple voice messages. We have to manually switch to the next voice note when one gets over. So, WhatsApp is working on a feature where two or more consecutive voice notes will play continuously without any interruption.

Media Preview in Notification

Currently, notifications only show "Image" or "Video" when a media file is received. They have added the feature in the Beta version where users can get a preview of the image in the notification shade itself. The feature will soon extend to the stable version of the app.

Stickers

While stickers have recently started gaining popularity among WhatsApp users, the company is trying to make the experience better. Just like emoji search, there will also be a sticker search available, which will allow for an easy search of stickers. Also, WhatsApp is planning to add more stickers down the road.

The report comes a few days after the Galaxy Note 9 received its third Beta update for One UI. According to a report by SamMobile, the update has been spotted by users in Germany and the ones who were already on the Beta version got an update of just around 95MB. This shows that the last update was nearly stable and it was ready to be pushed to the masses.

A few days ago, Samsung promised that the update for the Galaxy Note 9 will be rolled out by January 15, 2019. It is good to see that the update has started reaching the devices within the first week of the month itself.
