SportsBot SS302 Gaming Combo Review: Cheap and aggressive

Soundbot combo
SportsBot SS302 includes a total of four items in the combo.

SoundBot recently introduced their gaming peripherals under the name of SportsBot. The company launched the SS301 gaming combo a few months ago, which was not received with much love. So, SportsBot has come up with its successor, the SportsBot Gaming Combo SS302. Is it any better? Let's find out.

SportsBot SS302 Gaming Combo Review: Keyboard

The new SportsBot Gaming Keyboard comes with three LED backlight options, which include colours like Red, Purple and Blue. It is quite an improvement over the last generation as that one only had a Blue backlight colour option. The new keyboard also has three brightness levels to make the keys more visible in darker environments. It comes with multimedia keys and 26 Anti-ghosting keys for a better gaming experience.

The keyboard gives an aggressive look.

One of my very favourite features on SportsBot keyboard is the ability to lock down the Window Key. If the key gets pressed accidentally during gameplay, it has a huge effect on a lot of gamers. The keyboard also comes with six extra keys, which can be programmed in-game according to user preferences.

SportsBot SS302 Gaming Combo Review: Mouse

SportsBot gaming mouse comes with four different LEDs that are also used to indicate the four different preset DPIs. Unfortunately, the mouse does not have any sort of compatible software to set custom DPIs. It also features an ergonomic design in order to bring comfort for longer gaming sessions. The thumb rest on the left is something interesting to see in this segment.

sportsbot
The thumb rest on the mouse is really helpful during long gaming sessions.

As far as the performance is concerned, the mouse performs quite well with FPS (First Person Shooters) and other games. The movement is quite precise and accurate, whereas the clicks are also quite tactile. In order to complement the mouse, the company has also included a mousepad inside the box.

SportsBot SS302 Gaming Combo Review: Headphones

Gaming headphones included in this combo look quite cheap. They have been significantly improved over the last generation, but we feel there is still a lot of room for improvement. It is built out of plastic and uses two 3.5mm pins and a USB connector in order to connect to a PC. While the two 3.5mm pins are for mic and headphones, the USB connector is used to light up the sides of the headphones. Not many people will like the LED lights on the sides as they might be a bit distracting. Also having two 3.5mm connector pins is a red flag for most laptop gamers who only have one 3.5mm combo port on their device.

headphones, sportsbot
LED lights on the headphones might be a bit distracting.

As for the audio quality, the output is quite acceptable considering the price of the whole combo. It gives decent details when playing a game including footsteps, rain sounds and more. The mic is on a bit negative side as during a quick test on CS:GO, my teammates did say that my voice was not very clear. However, I was audible enough to give call outs.

SportsBot SS302 Gaming Combo Review: Verdict

SportsBot SS302 is priced at Rs. 3,990 and for that price, it brings in a lot to the table. The products inside the package are not as premium as some of its competition.

If SportsBot could have kept the price a little bit lower, this combo would have been a killer deal.

In short, the SportsBot SS302 is a good buy for someone looking to enter the PC gaming world. The flashy LED lights and the aggressive design of the product are what will impress most people. However, when it comes to quality and performance, there are better options available out there, for which you might have to splurge a bit more.

Gionee F205 Pro is currently available exclusively on Flipkart at Rs 6,990.

Gionee the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has launched a new smartphone dubbed Gionee F205 Pro in India. The device is currently available on Flipkart and is priced at Rs. 6,990. However, the specifications don't justify the price the company is asking for the device.

The Gionee F205 Pro is the successor to the Gionee F205 launched back in 2017.

To recall, Gionee recently declared bankruptcy back in December after the company CEO accepted that he had used, company assets to gamble at a Hong Kong registered casino. It seems as if the company has bounced back from its bankruptcy and is resuming business once more. This appears to be its first smartphone since the debacle.

Gionee F205 Pro sports a 5.45-inch HD+ 2.5D curved display with a resolution of 1440x720 pixels. It is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6739WW 64-bit processor clocked at 1.5GHz.

Coming to the camera specifications, the Gionee F205 Pro sports a 13-megapixel primary sensor on the back with a 5P lens and an f/2.0 aperture. On the front, it features a 5-megapixel sensor with a 3P lens and an f/2.2 aperture. The device consists of an LED flash both on the front and the back.

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 Review: The hottest ultrabook?

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 (3)
Asus ZenBook Pro has good looks and tons of nifty features. Here's how it performs in the real world.

Asus ZenBook series is the company's flagship laptop series in which they try to show the best they have to offer to their customers. ZenBook Pro is a top of the line laptop, which is targeted towards content creators and heavy users. It brings premium design, durable build quality and some great features. But, how does it performs in the real world? Find out in our review:

Asus ZenBook Pro Review: Specifications

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 features a 15.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. It is powered by the Intel Core i9-8950HK 8th Gen CPU coupled with 16GB of DDR4 RAM. For graphics, there is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti GPU with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM. The storage is taken care of by the 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD drive.

Asus ZenBook Pro Review: Design

Asus ZenBook Pro, being a flagship laptop from Asus, comes with a metal body and feels premium and durable. The company has also managed to keep the laptop quite thin and lightweight. The outer shell looks quite attractive when clean, however, it is just a fingerprint magnet.

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 (9)
The outer shell of the laptop is a fingerprint magnet.

The laptop features a power-in port, an HDMI port and two USB Type-C ThunderBolt 3 ports on the left. On the right-hand side, it consists of two full-size USB 3.0 ports along with a microSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack.

In terms of upgradability, Asus ZenBook Pro is not that good. The RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, which means you will have to stick with 16GB of RAM till you get rid of the device. Also, there is only one PCIe slot, which means you cannot have a hybrid storage solution.

Asus ZenBook Pro Review: Display

Display is one of the major selling points of this laptop. Asus ZenBook Pro features a 15.6-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. As it is geared towards creators and professionals, the display is 100% sRGB and Adobe RGB accurate. The brightness can be cranked up to 325nits, which looks pretty good even while using the device outdoors. Additionally, the display sports a touchscreen, which does a fairly decent job.

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 (2)
Asus ZenBook Pro features a 4K touch screen display.

Unlike the design of the more other Asus laptops, this one does not have their nano edge display design. However, the bezels are still pretty small when compared to most other 2018 laptops. One thing, which I did not like about this display, is its glossy finish. It attracts a lot of fingerprints and it is quite reflective as well.

Asus ZenBook Pro Review: Performance

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 is powered by an Intel Core i9-8950HK processor paired with 16GB of DDR4 RAM. While the Core i9 makes this laptop look like one of the most powerful devices in the world, it is actually one of the weakest points of this machine.

As it is an ultrabook, the chassis does not have enough cooling vents to keep the CPU cool under heavy loads. It easily gets thermal throttled even with a few minutes of gaming or video editing.

We highly recommend considering the Core i7 variant of ZenBook Pro if you are looking to buy one. The laptop itself is not quite capable of unleashing the true potential of the CPU. Also, the laptop gets quite hot during use and can easily make you feel uncomfortable. If you really need a Core i9 CPU, you should look elsewhere.

In terms of graphics, Asus ZenBook Pro comes with an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti GPU with 4GB of DDR5 VRAM. Though it is not a gaming machine, the graphics card is quite capable of running most AAA titles at medium to high settings. During our time with the device, we played games like PUBG, Apex Legends and CS:GO. While Counter-Strike easily gave me upwards of 120 FPS even at high settings, PUBG required me to switch to low settings in order to achieve a playable 60 FPS mark. However, we really feel this is not the right choice if you are looking for a laptop for gaming.

Asus ZenBook Pro Review: Keyboard and Trackpad

I personally have mixed feelings about this keyboard. The key travel is quite good, which makes the typing experience great. However, on the flip side, the keys are quite short as the whole keyboard is shifted towards the left as to accommodate a row of navigation keys.

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 (11)
The screenpad can also act as an exteended display.

The trackpad here is another interesting part of this laptop. It is, what Asus likes to call, a screenpad. It basically means that there is another touchscreen display on the trackpad. Asus has customised a few apps for quick access on the screenpad, which include a calendar, calculator and more. One of my favourite features of the screenpad is the ability to control YouTube videos on Google Chrome using the screenpad. Additionally, the screenpad can also act as an extended display for your laptop.

Asus ZenBook Pro Review: Battery

The Asus ZenBook Pro is backed by a 71Wh battery, which is pretty good. During our testing, the laptop easily lasted around 6-7 hours with light usage like web browsing and watching movies. However, if you really want to pull off more battery life out of this, you will need to switch from 4K to 1080p and lower the Windows power mode to get better battery performance. The power supply is able to deliver 150W of power, which is enough to juice up the laptop quite quickly.

Asus ZenBook Pro Review: Verdict

Asus ZenBook Pro UX580 (6)
Asus ZenBook Pro comes with an Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti GPU with 4GB of DDR5 VRAM. Though it is not a gaming machine, the graphics card is quite capable of running most AAA titles at medium to high settings.

Asus ZenBook Pro 15 (UX580) is a powerful, premium ultrabook that is geared towards creators. While the screenpad looks to be quite gimmicky, it does help improve productivity in some cases. The display used is quite good, one might call it the best 4K panel used on a laptop. However, on the downside, the laptop does thermal throttle a lot due to poor heat management and the extremely powerful, yet pretty hot, Core i9 chipset.

Even if you are interested in this laptop, we highly recommend getting the Core i7 version of it as that is less likely to thermal throttle and also also save some of your money.

PUBG Mobile uploading 0.11.0 update as servers go down: Here's what to expect

PUBG resident evil
PUBG 0.11.0 update brings Resident Evil 2 Sunset mode

After the success of the 0.10.0 update, PUBG Mobile is now working on another major update with the version number 0.11.0. Just like most major updates, the upcoming one is also said to bring a host of exciting features. The company has shut down servers for maintenance as they are uploading the new changes to the game.

The new update will bring the much anticipated limited run zombie survival mode. The new mode will most likely be called "Survive Till Dawn" in which players will have to survive through a number of different types of zombies. The PUBG Mobile servers went down at 12 AM UTC (5:30 AM IST) on February 18 and will be restored at 8 AM UTC (1:30 PM IST). However, the players will be able to enjoy the new changes starting February 19.

With the new zombies coming into the play, the game will also bring Resident Evil 2 bosses, which players will have to kill in order to claim heavy loot. Additionally, reports claim that the upcoming 0.11.0 update will be focused towards the Zombies Mode. It will bring in changes and additions like the G63C gun, PUBG Mobile Prime and Prime Plus subscriptions. Sadly enough, BC to UC conversion feature will not make its way with the new update.

The company is might also add Tukshai for Sanhok map, new dynamic weather in Miramar and Erangel map, snow area in Erangel map, MK 47 Mutant rifle, Snow bike for Vikendi and much more.

Samsung Galaxy has turned 10 years old. Here's how it has changed within these 10 years.

Samsung is one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers globally. The company recently celebrated its 10 years of its Galaxy brand in the market. It has sent across a press release, which tells users of what all has the company's Galaxy brand has been able to achieve within the 10 years it has been in the industry:

(Please note the content below is directly from the press release, which hasn't been edited by Beetel Bite's staff)

Samsung is the world’s largest smartphone company, and India’s most trusted brand. Right from the beginning. The company's meaningful innovations have been centred on empowering its consumers to “do what you can’t”.  Time and again, it has pushed the limits of mobile technology and set the standard for what the smartphone can – and should – be. It is a global innovations leader and has been a pioneer in smartphone innovations over the years. Here is a list of some global firsts from Samsung:

  1. Way back in 1999 Samsung brought entertainment to the palm of our hands with the first TV phone.
  2. Staying ahead of the curve, the company introduced high-quality photography and the mobile phone together with a built-in 10-megapixel camera on the Samsung B600, at a time when phone cameras were not even a norm in the industry.
  3. Developed the watch phone in 1999 to enhance productivity on-the-go, years before “smartwatch” became a household term.
  4. In 2002, it launched the True Color Phone, introducing the world to the active matrix LCD display.
  5. In March 2010, Samsung launched the first Galaxy S series device. Packed with best-in-class technology – including a powerful GPU and a 4-inch Super AMOLED display.
  6. The company introduced the Edge Display curved smartphone screen that didn’t just offer consumers a gorgeous design but a brand new way to interact with their device with edge functionality.
  7. In 2011, Samsung created a large screen smartphone category with Galaxy Note and debuted the revolutionary S Pen.
  8. Samsung pioneered meaningful innovation that brought convenience and security to consumers everywhere: Samsung Knox, Samsung Pay, and countless other services and capabilities opened up a Galaxy of possibilities.
  9. When the industry was rife with all similar looking phones, it broke the monotony and raised the bar of smartphone design by introducing stunning Infinity Display with Galaxy S8.
  10. With the super powerful Galaxy Note 9, consumers could power a PC-like experience right from their smartphones, on any TV or monitor with just a single HDMI cable, thanks to in-built Samsung Dex. A feature never before seen on any smartphone, perfect for consumers who want to carry their work wherever they go.
  11. The highest variant of the Galaxy Note 9 also had 1TB ready memory, as much as laptop so consumers could store more and delete less.

Samsung isn’t just changing how smartphones will look. It’s also changing how they’ll connect by working hard to usher in the next generation of connectivity with 5G.

What is project /e/? Should you install it on your Android smartphone?

EFoundation , e-project
Project /e/ is built for securing your Android powered device.

Have you ever thought about how secure your Android device, let's be clear, not very much. Now you might be wondering why? It is because due to Android being open source many apps can track you. However, if you are even a bit into flashing new ROMs onto your smartphone or even rooting your mobile /e/ might be the thing you want to read about right now.

The /e/ ROM helps enhance device security and makes your Android powered smartphone much more secure. /e/ is a project of the E-Foundation, which is focused on enhancing a user's device security by restricting anything that logs user data. As per the company,  /e/ is a non-profit project, made in public interest. The E Foundation is building an open-source mobile operating system, which respects a user's data privacy.

Project /e/ provides a great and unique mobile operating system alternative, stripped down of all the services that might collect and use user data. Things like Google services that collect user information anonymously are stripped down and replaced with things like microG services which enable users to enjoy the benefits of Android without Google collecting their data.

Most important of all, these services are open source. Being open source makes it possible for meddling users to actually look at the source code and find out, whether they are sending the data to any servers or not.

Why Do I need Privacy?

The “Digital Content Next”(*) study published back in August 2018 by Prof. Douglas C. Schmidt, Vanderbilt University, shows that mobile phones, even when using no Google services, connect to Google Servers multiple times per hour (91 times per hour for an Android mobile with a total amount of 116MB of data sent on a single day, and 51 times per hour for an iPhone, corresponding to 57MB of data sent to Google servers). With MicroG services, the devices connect almost never.

Small things and optimizations like that makes the \e\ project entirely disconnect. This enables users to keep all of their data on their phones.

Overall, this enhances privacy on a mobile phone by an astronomical amount. So if you are looking for a secure mobile operating system, check out the project /e/.

Twitter does not delete any of your messages against your will

Twitter
Twitter now faces another bug

While security flaws are making personal information vulnerable to hackers these days, the popular social media platform Twitter is doing something willingly. A recent report suggests that even if you delete any of your direct messages on Twitter, they do not get deleted from the server itself.

A guy named Karan Saini pointed this out by restoring some of his account's archived content from Twitter. He found that the company has been storing all his DMs and he literally found some messages dating years back from now. According to Saini, old DMs can easily be accessed through archived files from Twitter data.

Interestingly enough, the company also keeps such records for deactivated accounts. Saini was able to retrieve some of the messages sent to and from such accounts that are currently either suspended or deactivated. It is quite shocking as the company claims in its security policies that once an account has been deactivated, the account and its data gets removed permanently after a 30-day grace period.

Also Read: How to reduce your smartphone radiation exposure and stay a healthy life

As of now, Saini claims that this might be a functional bug and not a security flaw. Twitter has already acknowledged the issue and it is said to be looking into the matter. However, the issue is not that huge as the messages can only be accessed by the parties involved in the conversation and not by some random stranger.

Meanwhile, the social media platform has been facing a lot of bugs lately. First, there was a bug, which allowed anyone to send tweets via mobile. Further, the company also witnessed a bug where protected tweets were made public for a while.

Zowie Celeritas II Keyboard Review: The keyboard for competitive gamers

Zowie CELERITAS II
The finish on the Zowie Celeritas II attracts a lot of fingerprints

Zowie Celeritas II, as the name suggests, is the successor to the company's Celeritas I keyboard. Instead of mechanical keys, Zowie opted in for optical switches in order to offer users a much better response time along with a great tactile feel compared to its predecessor. This keyboard is geared towards competitive gamers and here's how it fairs in the real world.

Zowie Celeritas II Keyboard Review: Design

The keyboard itself is quite simple looking with its black and red design. Unlike other keyboards in this price range, it does not have RGB lighting. Instead, the keyboard is backlit with a red light. Due to this keyboard being geared towards competitive gamers, having one static colour helps in concentrating more on the game rather than getting distracted by the unnecessary RGB lighting, though that might look cool. Honestly, I do wish Zowie should have given us a choice here.

Zowie Celeritas II Keyboard Review: Performance

Zowie Celeritas II is a full-size optical switch keyboard. While it is focused on gamers, Zowie has introduced something called optimal pre-travel distance. This is the slight press on the key before reaching the actuation point. It helps gamers who have their fingers floating on certain keys for saving them from any accidental presses.

One of the major reasons behind using optical switches on this keyboard is the double pressing problem. Most mechanical keyboards have a problem where a key registers two clicks accidentally. Zowie Celeritas II solves this problem while at the same time retaining the noise that an actual mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches would make. Thus giving a much more tactile feeling to the user.

celeritas ii switches
You can easily remove any of the keycaps

Apart from this, Zowie Celeritas II also provides users with a few basic features like media control keys. The function keys on the top bar can also double as media control keys, which can control audio tracks, volume and more. The keyboard also comes with the Windows Lock key, which helps users avoid any accidental window key presses.

Also Read: Zowie EC1-B, EC2-B CS:GO Edition Gaming Mouse review: Made for fans

Another important feature of the Zowie Celeritas II is its Real-Time Respond function. This function only works if you use the included USB to PS/2 converter and attach the keyboard on your PC's PS/2 port. This can help you to increase the rate to respond to your keyboard by up to 8 times.

Zowie Celeritas II Keyboard Review: Verdict

At a price of Rs. 10,900, the Zowie Celeritas II keyboard does pack a punch. However, it totally depends on you if you are willing to spare that amount of dough on a computer peripheral.

For hardcore and competitive gamers, the answer could be yes, due to the advantages it brings with the optical switches and features like RPR. Normal consumers, on the other hand, will be better off passing on this one.

Xiaomi is finally bringing dark mode to MIUI 10: Here's what to expect

MIUI 10 to soon get system wide dark mode

Xiaomi's MIUI is known to be one of the most customisable Android ROMs. The UI brings in tons of exciting features that stock Android just fails to offer. Recently, Google has been reportedly working on a system-wide dark mode for the next version of Android. While Xiaomi doesn't want its users to keep waiting, they are releasing a dark mode for MIUI.

According to a report by FoneArena, Xiaomi is working on a system-wide dark theme for MIUI and it will be made available in the upcoming MIUI 10 update. The feature has already been spotted on MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM. It will soon make its way over to the stable version based on feedback from the beta testers.

FoneArena has also shared a couple of screenshots showing system apps running a dark theme. This will make it easier on the eyes in the dark and users having AMOLED displays can save some battery. As per the screenshots, the changes have been made to MIUI 10 apps like Calculator, Contacts, Gallery, Messaging, Notes, Phone, Screen Recorder and Updater. Apart from the apps, the dark mode also covers the volume controls, notification shade and the Recents panel.
